Hello, it has been a while since I blogged ,here it is 6 am and I am sitting here wondering what I could say. And I came up with this . I wish I knew then what I know now about my roots, had I known how interesting the stories would be , I would have talked with my grandmother whom I was told had wonderful stories to share about her youth, her parents and relatives. I would have spoken to a great aunt who I was told was a story teller, everyone in the village would gather at her home to hear her tell stories, but when it was time to say the rosary, no matter who was there, the stories stopped, everyone kneeled and prayed. I have been fortunate to have my Mom's stories, funny stories, sad stories, loving ones too. For example she told me that when I was just a baby ( so very long ago) , they lived in a log cabin, and in the winter time you could see the light from the cracks in the walls and she told me, at night time she would cover all us children snuggly in our beds and she would fasten our blankets with safety pins so we would not get uncovered.
Mom told me stories about her father working in the woods and he marked a path with an axe so that at mealtime my grandmother would send Mom or her brothers to bring him his meal and he had four meals a day, so this makes me believe that he was a thoughtful man. Mom said that after her school was over, her father made them read books that older grades would use because he was also once a teacher, and each night the kids sat on the stairway and listened to him quote from his favorite author Robbie Burns.
When I began searching for my family tree, it was something fantastic, to find all these people 's names but I wanted more, I wanted to know how they lived, where they lived, how they died ,who they really were. It is surprising what one can find in newspapers or in records. Many folks have traced their family lines, but many of them only have they were born , married and died dates, this is not enough for me. I am now doing an english line of mine that is interesting . One of my ancestors in the 1840s died in a workhouse in England. I found that workhouses were for the poor, the sick and the elderly. My ancestor was 80 years old his wife had died around 33 years earlier her baby was one year old when she died. Now I am curious to know what happened to all her children when she died, where did they live? With whom did they live? Were some adopted?
I want to know all these things, so that I can pass it down to my children and grandchildren or whoever else is interested . In return I am hoping that all my information that I have found throughout my research will be passed down through the years when I am no longer here.
Think about what I have said, and find stories (good or bad) about your family, write it down, pass it down, again I say once we are gone ,so are our memories and the memories of those who have gone before us. Pass It On!.
I have a few genealogy things among other things at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* here is a few products not genealogy related ,enjoy:
A little about Genealogy,a little Acadian History, a little about my Memories I would like to share.Come on in sit down and enjoy

Stories plus Genealogy
Today I would like to talk about things I think is important for anyone who is interested in their family tree. As you know family trees is the in thing today, genealogy is the in thing today. You see advertising about it on television. Ancestry.ca is advertising it. They have a show called “Who do you think you are”. They have a similar show in Britain too. They have a movie on TV way back about Alex Haley’s “Roots”. How many of you watched it night after night? Remember there was Kinto or Kinta, and there was Chicken Little I think. Anyway it was long ago and I remember being glued to the TV enjoying it so very much.
It wasn’t just about born a certain date, married a certain date, and died a certain date. There was the in between time which was important. So this is why I believe in getting all the stories and information down about each ancestor of mine that I am able too. If I could go back in time and speak to my ancestors ,what a tale they would have to tell me. But that is impossible, all I can do is read what is written about them, and I am sure there would have been lots more stories they would have been able to share. What they did for entertainment for example or how and where they met their spouse and how they felt when their first child was born and did they come in contact with a wild animal and how did they handle the situation. I know they killed the animals but could there have been a bear for example that they came in contact with ?
We read in the newspaper about bear encounters, and crocodiles and alligators ,it is sad to read but it is the truth so how many of our ancestors had similar stories? We will never know unless we find some old newspapers well preserved hidden somewhere. So how can we make it better for the people coming after we are gone? Well gather stories for them. If your parents or grandparents are living I bet they would love to share some of their stories with you. Aunts and Uncles sometimes know more than we think. Stop by the nursing homes, or hospitals ,spend a day with your relatives, ask them questions, once they start talking you might get a lot of information about their parents or grandparents. Start looking through older newspapers in your area or where your grandparents lived, you can find these newspapers at your local library or archives. I have done this, I spent hours looking though newspapers, sometimes I found nothing, other times I hit pay dirt. I even found my birth announcement in the local paper. Sort of neat to see. So if you are thinking of doing your family tree, make it into a story, make it enjoyable for others to read, make it into a book, but most of all Just Make It.
Now changing the subject as I usually do, I have been creating new items in my store at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* such as calendars, iPhone Cases, iPod Touch Cases, Mugs, and much more I do hope you will stop by. Have a great day

Who's interested in Genealogy?
That is a good question. I wonder how many readers don't know what genealogy is all about? There are so many words that sound similar. Well genealogy is another word for tracing your ancestors, or doing your family tree. Everyone should get interested in genealogy. Why? Well one day we will be no longer here, and when we leave our memories and stories go with us. Now is the time to sit down, and write about ourselves, and our ancestors. So that means we have to find our ancestors. Do you know anything about your grandparents? Did they ever tell you how they met one another? Did your grandmother ever tell you something about her youth that she was proud of? Did your grandparents ever talk to you about their growing up and their parents? I love digging for new stories, now another thing I want to mention is you have to write down the truth, no lies ,don't butter up the story. Did your grandmother get pregnant before she got married? Back then it was hush hush, and shhhhhhhhhhhh don't say anything and many times the girl got pregnant and kept indoors till she had the baby then her mother all of a sudden adopts a baby or has a baby? hmmm. Did your great grandfather commit a crime that you are not so very proud of? It is the truth, don't hide it. No matter how terrible the crime was ,you have to remember that without that great grandfather you would not be here. He is part of your legacy ,he is your ancestor and you are part of him. What I would give if I could go back in time and interview my ancestors, I recently am tracing my English line, and it is very interesting, I found that one of my gggggrandfather fathered a child and never married the girl now this was way back in the 1600s, and I also read that in England it was the custom that a man could bring his wife to market and sell her.Yes sell her if she didn't please him. If my late husband would be alive and he would hear what I just said he would say Too bad I didn't know that . haha. So today this is what I wanted to talk about, genealogy and how important it is. Even if you have no children, this information can be passed on to nieces ,nephew, cousins. I hope you enjoyed today's blog, now get interested in doing your family tree and you will be so proud of yourself. I am adding a few products I recently made that you can find at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I also have so much more there including genealogy products.

What are Ancestors ? This word is heard all the time. Well for the ones who haven’t got a clue about Ancestors, I will tell you what I know. For as long as I have been doing genealogy or family trees, that word Ancestors has been mentioned over and over again. I found out that Ancestors were people, just like you and I. They lived, they loved, they laughed and they cried. And if it were not for Ancestors you and I would not be around . Ancestors are our grandparents ,their grandparents and great grandparents and it goes on and on. Many of us want to go back and find out as much as we can and as many Ancestors as we can. The more we find ,the further we want to continue going. I am such a person. At the moment I am concentrating on another one of my lines, my English line. Many of you remember I told you I was doing my Chate dit Chase line . Well I am still at it, I have since found three more siblings of my first Chate to come to Canada. And I found that the three new ones were born where the parents married in St Giles Camberwell England. Can you imagine the excitement when I came across these ? I am not hoping to find out what happened to them. Now I keep looking for all that I can find and I have a Chate who married a Jackson and I was curious to find out more, well I found they married in Balcombe Sussex England and I even saw an image of the church they married in, but the church has since been renovated. Then I found the Jackson lady’s father and grandfather and they came from Ardingly Sussex England. I saw a photo of the village back in 1905 but these folks lived there in the 1700s so the village must have changed somewhat. But it is exciting to have a story and not just names ,dates, and places. I want to know more about my English Roots. I am reading about the Poor Laws in England, and hope to find some kind of document mentioning the names of some of my ancestors. I also have some French Canadian Roots , and there are still branches of my tree to fill in. I would suggest to you readers ,if you are bored and want to tackle a new adventure, start tracing your family tree, find your Ancestors, then you will be contented knowing who you really are.
On another note, I hope you will check out my store
http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I have lots of new products in case you have been there before. My latest are a couple of cute posters, iPhone cases, and postcards. Be sure to check out my genealogy folder and also my Acadian/Cajun folder. Thanks for the visit

Who do you think you are
Well hello everyone. Who do you think you are is a weekly show by Ancestry.com. It traces some of the ancestors of famous people. The last show was about Rosie O'Donell, it was quite interesting, it took her to various locations. I was surprised when one of her ancestors showed up in Quebec Canada, and then she found a clue as to what part of Ireland they came from and she went to Ireland, found some baptisms in Ireland . This reminds me of Roots. I enjoyed Roots so much since at the time I was just starting to do my own family tree, and at the time I wondered what I would find while tracing my tree. Well since then I have found tons of information. If you google Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise you will come up with a fascinating story about him and his children, some of them ended in Louisiana ,some of his family were massacred in Fredericton , one of his grandsons led a group of Acadians through the woods ,up the St Lawrence River to St Gregoire Quebec. We had a Bergeron-Damboise reunion in Fredericton in 2009, we had nearly 100 who attended , and they were from all over, Louisiana,Virginia,Massachussetts,Maine,Quebec,Ontario ,New Brunswick, and elsewhere, what a great feeling to all be together and we walked from the Lieutenant Governor's house on a path leading to the cemetery where Barthelemy and his wife are buried. I was thinking during the walk, "if Barthelemy and Genevieve were looking down at us they sure would have been proud of all of their family." If you have never done your family tree and would like to find out where you come from, there is always help out there ,ask questions and get started ,you will have a good feeling knowing who you are, no matter what your ancestors were or did ,remember without them you would not exist.
So getting back to my story ,after watching Who do you think you are, I went on Ancestry and for the fun of it, typed in my Abraham Chate from England, I was surprised because I found three more children that I didn't know about. See Abraham married Ann Bennett in Camberwell England, they had two daughters born there (new to me) then they moved to Deptford and two sons were born there, then they must have went back to Camberwll another son was born there, (new to me again) and then back to Deptford where another son and daughter were born. So now I have three more children, I didn't have before but one of the daughters died in Camberwell as a baby. So there are two children,Ann Chate and John Chate that I must try and find, also need to find who Charles Chate and Thomas Chate married. Abraham Chate's son Abraham is the one who came to Canada ,he was known as Abraham Chase who married Marie Rose Girouard , how I came to connect Chase to Chates I found Abraham listed in the land grants as Abraham Chate.
One must remember when doing our family tree, names changed over time, the spellings for example, the priest or whoever took census sometimes wrote as the name sounded thus making it harder in our research. So make sure you check names that sounds like your surnames while searching for your roots.
Now I want to finish this blog by letting you know if you are looking for genealogy related products for gifts or for yourself, I have lots on Acadians,Cajuns,Irish,Scottish, and just Genealogy at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Genealogy has good days and bad days
Well hello everyone, it has been a while since I blogged genealogy: Well I have not given up my genealogy, on the contrary I am always searching either for me or for others. Right now I am at a standstill maybe for a little while maybe for a long while. I am looking for a Olivier Robichaud born around 1803 married to a Marie Louise Mazerolle. Now I have searched many places with no luck, I found the death of Olivier in Escuminac New Brunswick in 1853 he was age fifty that is where I got to my 1803 theory. Now I could not find him in the census of 1851 after that he had died. I found some of his children, not one godparent with the surname Robichaud to be found.
Now it could be possible that Olivier was baptized with a another name plus Olivier for example Jean-Olivier or Pierre_Olivier etc. So this search goes on. I even spoke to Stephen White and he has nothing on Olivier except the names of his in laws, but Stephen may not have gotten that far in his research yet. So what am I to do? Maybe look on the family of Marie Louise Mazerolle to see if there are some Robichauds listed . The search goes on.
Now on another note I am in the process of transcribing more records but they are not complete yet, when I am finished I shall add them to my website and let everyone know.
I am sure you have noticed my two tee shirts here, these are some that I created, you change the name ,age and location to suit yourself. These can both be found in my genealogy folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* They would make great reunion shirts or gifts for anyone into genealogy . This is it for now, thanks for stopping by

Someone someday will want to know

Many people are curious about who they are, where they come from and want to know about what kind of ancestors they had.
For example, were they important? (well to us they were). Were they rich,or famous or were they pirates, scoundrels and thieves.
Were some of our ancestors heroes ? At one time or another someone in our families will want to know, it may not be you but it may be you children, grandchildren, cousins etc. Now how many of you would love to have the history of your family? Well now is the time for all of you who are interested or who know of someone who might be to do something about it. Christmas is on its way, and it brings times of gifts and what better gift than to create a family tree ,even a family photo album for your love ones or friends. You can add things like what kind of work they did, where they lived, did they move ? Where to? Did they have a farm or own a factory? Add photos in the book, add obituaries, marriage certificates, their children, who they married. Little stories about them if you can gather them. Talk to family and friends, see if they know something.
Once you have all you info, what you can do that will not cost much, Get a binder like the one I created, pick up some plastic page protectors, and some photo paper for your photos and also computer paper and get to work and once you are done, gift wrap your family tree book and voila you have a Christmas Gift or Birthday Gift all ready to give. To see more about the binder above, click on the Binder URL below. And be sure to check out my genealogy products at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I do hope this blog will inspire many of you, now is the time to get busy and create the family tree books.

Long time no blog
Hello everyone well it has been some time since I blogged so here I am. I have been pretty busy with my genealogy research , am waiting for the final photos and information for my Leger book and next I work on the Richards. I have quite a bit of information on the Richard line but need the final information and photos there too. I am also going to go to the genealogy center to find a couple of obits in the newspaper relating to this family. As you know with genealogy the more information you have the more interesting the family tree book. This has been my opinion since I first began doing my family tree way way back and long long ago. grin. To me finding that my great grandmother planted an orchard with seeds with her own hands if very important, because last week I went to see the orchard and saw some apples on the ground and a few in the trees ,they must have been picked over. But knowing this lady who I am part of planted this way back in the early 1920s. Awesome!. I only wish I could have picked up a nice apple to bring back to Mom who is 92 and remembers the orchard when she was a little girl.
I am also working on my Facebook groups "Old Photos of New Brunswick Canada" ,you should see all the photos added there for all to share, I believe there are around 400 photos and growing so if you have any photos of New Brunswick that you want to share ,join the group. And I still have my Williams dit Bristol group where I am looking for any descendants of Mathurin Williams dit Bristol and Angelique Gauthier, I am trying to get as many cousins together as possible and we are posting photos there too.
I still have my acadianrootsclub and petiteacadienne groups in Yahoo plus Chat n Brag which is a private group. And I still find the time to work on my store at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* and I created another website regarding my zazzle store where I am adding some of my products, I set up that website exactly like my website acadian-roots.com this site is http://www.allicorshop.acadian-roots.com/ so you can check out all these urls if you have the time. you never know what you will find. I created the mug above a few days ago, it would make a lovely Christmas gift for that special someone. And finally I found the time to say hello to each of you. Oh and I have other blogs one of the is http://www.mrsallicor.blogspot.com/ ,I think that one will be popular because I have one called Allicor's Boutique and it is harder to access than the above one which I have named Allicor's Unique Boutique. So for you followers the above blog for my zazzle store will be reaching a lot more readers, please come follow me there? This blog here is a separate blog which I will keep on doing it will still contain genealogy and tidbits.
Thanks for the visit do stop by again. And to you zazzlers when I feature the stores my blog at mrscormier will be reaching more folks.
Have a great day

Genealogy and Humor
Genealogy like anything else has it's funny moments, and that is a good thing it keeps us motivated in keeping on going. Sometimes we hit brick walls, then one day they come tumbling down. It might take a long time for that wall to break, but there are so many new resources that seem to appear, places we haven't looked through, places we don't think to look through and all of a sudden we hit a gold mine, well to the researchers it is like a gold mine, or finding that pot of gold (lost ancestor).
I am at the present doing two different surname lines for someone and I thought "Gee I have that line connected right to the first ancestor recorded " Not so ! Come to find out, I was barking up the wrong tree, same name, different line. groan. But that didn't stop me, back to the searching. Oh Boy! Here he is, now I am on the right track. So I am on my way, I know there will be roadblocks along the way but I will get through them. Now I have decided that I needed to create some funny and some nice genealogy products. I have created some churches and will add more, and I have some funny tee shirt like the one above and more if you go to my genealogy folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* you will see what I have so far also you can go to my new website at http://allicorshop.acadian-roots.com/ and look there.
So now I am off to to I don't know what or I don't know where to start things. grin.
Thanks for the visit and please come again
Have a great day

What did our Ancestors do for fun?
What did our ancestors do for fun in their days?
Have you ever wondered about this? Well in case you don't know, I am everywhere and on Facebook I started some discussions which seems to be keeping everyone interested and my latest discussion was about Halloween. Well what does this have to do with ancestors? I didn't think it did at first but since I posted on FB I spoke to my Mom who is 92 and would you believe when we were young Dad and Mom dressed up at Halloween and took us children out? We are seven in my family but the time she told me about we were six of us. I had to be around five years old and Mom said that she took old coats and tore the inside linings out, made some costumes and masks and then she even tore up some old clothes for costumes, dressed us and out we went. This paticular day she said they walked to the end of the road (they lived in the country) and when they got there it began raining so our costumes and masks were all sopping wet. When we got home Mom said that the dye from the mask she had made had run down all over her face which made it black. Now I could not imagine my parents going out on Halloween, so if they went out, what about their parents (our grandparents) Did they celebrate Halloween Night? If they lived in the country and the houses were far apart, did they still go out? These are all things that would be nice to know and to add to our notes about them. And speaking of Halloween ,if you are planning a halloween party for the children or for the adults now is the time to order your invitations, posters, and even badges and mugs to give out as prizes at your party.
Have you seen my lastest project? I created another website and am adding some of my products from my main gallery there, so if you want to go there it's at http://www.allicorsshop.acadian-roots.com/ and my main gallery where you will find a lot more of my products is at
http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
Until next time, keep on looking for your ancestors they are out there somewhere.
Have a great day

Hello everyone, well today it is raining, we are expection some thunder so I imagine there will be lots of little dogs and cats being afraid. Good Deeds ,Feeling Good
Now why would good deed make a person feel good? Well I would think of it this way, if someone did a good deed for me, I am sure I would feel good about it and they would feel good doing it.
A couple of days ago,I went to the supermarket to pick up a few articles of groceries, while I was standing at the check out with my cart and groceries, this elderly lady was ahead of me and when the clerk told her what her groceries came to, this lady started looking for her purse ,then she began to panic ,she was so very upset, she had put her purse in another cart and changed carts, and her cart was nowhere to be seen and she kept saying I have never done this before and all my money and cards are in my wallet, what am I going to do? Seeing her so upset I said to her, wait a minute I will go see if I can find it. So there were others at the other checkouts and so I began asking ,have you seen a purse, have you seen a purse? All of a sudden I heard it is at the office, someone had found it and brought it to the office. So the clerk went and got it. This little lady had tears in her eyes because she was so happy to have her purse and all its belongings inside. So this was my good deed and it honestly did make me feel good . And the good deed I did must have paid off because I came home, checked my mail and guess what? I had made a sale in my zazzle store. So maybe the sale was my reward.
I have been working on my gallery, adding new things very often, If an idea comes to me, then I create, this week it was genealogy related, as you know I love genealogy so this was an easy task, last week I was on the shoe creating, next week I haven’t a clue but I honestly love creating and I do hope others will like my ideas and products. You can view them all at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
The mug on the right side has the image of a reinactment of Montcalm's Victory, we have all read about Montcalm and Wolfe in our history books. Remember to order your invitations early enough and also your children shoes for school. Time sure goes by fast so don't delay.
Thanks for the visit ,do stop by again.

Genealogy & Zazzle
First I will talk genealogy and
will talk zazzle next.
Well I went to see my Mom the other day and she has been saving obituaries from the newspaper for a long time and when I went over she was putting them all in an album. So I borrowed the album and I scanned all the pages of the allbum and I have created a page on my Acadian-Roots dot com website. Now we will talk Zazzle. Zazzle is where I created my gallery or my store. There are tons and tons of zazzle stores and lots of great artists among them. I would like to mention a new friend of mine from Melbourne Australia, her name is Rose and she has been promoting my store at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor so in return I would like to promote her store, now she is very talented, and she has a blog and a newsletter which you can subscribe to, in her newsletter she talks about her store but she also helps advertise stores like mine and yours. Each time I make a sale I sent her the list of what I sold and she in turn posts it in her newsletter along with other zazzlers. Here is what she wrote for me to share with you:
Sketchart26 Fine Arts & Photos Newsletter Started on Monday 1st of March 2010. The news letter was influence through my personal belief that we should never just take and should always try to give back. So out of this belief I developed what I now call “Sketchart26 Fine Arts and Photos Zazzle Bog”. The blog was designed to not only display my work but also to display the work of all Zazzle store owners. Over the path of the development stage of the blog I began to realise the importance for all Zazzle store owners to have a place to share their experiences, sales, store, designs and any websites they may have set up to help advertise their store. I believe through sharing these experiences we give hope to all those just starting out and also at the same time we can learning from one another so that we may be able to grow as individuals as well. So the newsletter is sent out once a fortnight each Monday and incorporates anything blogged within the fortnight. It also allows those who subscribes access to a programme I have started called “Tools of The Trade” which is my own tutorials I am writing to help other’s learn what I have learned during my time at Zazzle in the hope to make other’s paths an easier path to take. So I would like to invite you all to sign up and start sending through all your wonderful news about your sales, stores, new designs and anything else that might be of importance to your stores. Customers are also welcome to sign up for the newsletter.
You can sign up through my website or my blog. See links below.
Cheers Sketchart26

I hope she will get a lot of new subscriptions.
Now I hope you like my two products I added today, there is a story behind them. Today we went to the country and stopped in this Acadian Restaurant where they sold Poutine Rapees, they are the photos on the shirt, they may not look very tasty but they sure are, with a little bit of sugar is the way I like them, some use salt, some even use ketchup, So I bought a couple and brought them home and I said to myself, hmm this would make a great product for my gallery so I set them on a plate on my table , took out a few Acadian things and voila I have a product. I made tee shirts, french and english, I made invitations french and in english, I created a hat, even a necktie and a bag, a mousepad and a postcard . You can find all of these in my Acadian Cajun Folder and in my mouse and greeting card folders too. I do hope you will stop by.
So as Porky Pig used to say "da, dats all foolks." grin.
Thanks for the visit ,do stop by again.

Mother Told Me
Well a few days ago , I went to visit my Mom, and when I go I usually ask her about her past, she is now 92 and her memory is unbelievable, oh she does repeat some same stories but just the same she is one amazing lady.
Anyway this paticular visit, I went in and she was reading the newspaper which she does every morning faithfully. Then she began talking ,she said her father was a jack of all trades and he was a teacher in Maine before he met my grandmother and when they married and had their family,Mom said he used to tutor them at home when he was there, because by then he travelled a lot seeking work. He used to file saws and axes.
Mom said she remembers that he used to read to them by the candlelight from a book by Robbie Burns. Yes the poet. Now this would be back in the mid 1920s.
Mom said her father thought education was very very important and he wanted his children to be educated. Now Mom said her mother (my grandmother )went to grade three in school and her spelling was not good ,but she wanted to write to my grandfather when he was away, so Mom told me, my grandmother would sit by the candlelight and Mom would sit next to her and Grandmother would ask Mom how to spell a certain word and Mom helped her or if she made a mistake in spelling Mom would be by her side correcting her. Now I found this very interesting because it made me feel like I was there, it made me feel good knowing about my grandparents, how they lived, if you are into genealogy or family trees you probably understand what I mean. Our ancestors were much more than names and dates, they were human like you and I, they lived, they loved, they cried, they laughed. So these are things for us to know and cherish and pass down to our children and their children. If you have some relatives who can share stories like these, visit them, ask them questions, and write down all that you can find.
Now changing the subject, I created that Bingo Shirt above, I sort of like the poem that I changed the words to what I wanted to say. You can find that shirt in my tee shirt folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I also want to say, I bought one of my shirts I created, it is being shipped so when I get it (I hope it fits grin) I will wear it, and show you. Oh and I also created quite a few childrent-shirts with Nursery Rhymes on the front. I will probably add more, you can see those in my children folder. I do hope you enjoyed today's blog and will stop by another day.
Have a great day

Changes from the Past to Now
Last week two of my granchildren did their Confirmation which got me to thinking about how things have changed from the time of my youth.
When I did my first communion, it was mandatory, the girls had to wear a white dress, a white veil, white stockings and white shoes as you can see in the picture on the right. And it was a beautiful ceremony, we all walked down the church's main aisle all the girls together, and then the boys dressed in little suits or sport coats and dress pants followed behind us. Today it isn't like that, the girls and boys wear their everyday clothes. For our confirmation it was the same thing we had to wear a white dress. The boys dressed in shirt and tie or sport coats and dress pants. I attended my grandchildren's confirmation as I said, and I was so very proud of them during this ceremony. I would have loved to see my grandaughter in a little white dress and veil. But times have changed
and we have to change with the times. Of course this can be said for my things that have changed. When the first wood stove came out, imagine what our great grandmothers thought ,or when the washing machines came out after our ancestors had been washing their clothes on a scrub board and rinsing them in a tub by hand. We don't have to go back that far even, when the men would use a bucksaw to cut down trees and now they have chain saws. I wonder what kinds of changes there will be fifty years from now,we won't see them but some of our descendants will. Will they say " If only grandmother Cormier could see this new gadget. She would be some pleased.
Now the image on the upper right is a first communion card I created, what a nice way to have the old tradition remembered, by giving such a card to your special little girl. You can find it in the greeting cards at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Trails of our Ancestors
What is Trails of our Ancestors ? Well as I told you in another blog, we are doing something similar to Who do you think you are which aired on television and was the product of Ancestry.ca tracing the family trees of celebrities. No we are not tracing celebrities but we (the volunteers and I ) have put together a project, where we are having a draw of names of people who were interested in having their family tree done. The draw deadline for this project will be on Sunday Mother's Day. We are going to trace two lines and get as much information as we can on each individual. We are thinking of doing the fathers side ,then on the mothers side we will be doing only the women. We had to decide on a title for our project, so we decided on Trails of our Ancestors, little did I know that there were many things out there with the same title. So how do you find OUR Trails of our Ancestors? Perhaps through reading this blog. Trails of our Ancestors is on Facebook in the groups, so go to Facebook type in Trails of our Ancestors in the search bar at the top of the page then you will be taken to the group. Now this group is not the only place we will be discussing our findings, we will also be working from my genealogy group acadianrootsclub which is by invite only. So if you are interested let me know and I will send you an invite to our genealogy group, as for Facebook you can go there directly from Facebook. You still have time to enter the draw, add a comment here or come see me through my acadian-roots.com website. A note to say for our first project we are asking for Acadians,Cajuns or French Canadians for the draw. Everyone is welcome to the group Trails of our Ancestors. Now changing the subject ,I created the above poem myself, and made it into a poster and I also made a mug or stein with it, you can view them in my Posters and Mug folders at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Our Genealogy Project
Hello everyone, as you all know Ancestry has a series going on called Who do you think you are. And this show has probably got a lot of people wanting to know where they come from. My group and I wanted to do something to help. So we have come up with an idea that I hope many will like. We are looking for anyone who has not done their family trees and probably have not idea what to do or where to go. We are looking for people with either Acadian,Cajun or French Canadians lines. If our project goes well we might move on to another candidate. We are taking names of anyone interested and then we will make a draw ,the lucky candidate will have us find out what we can about his or her family tree. We may start out with two direct lines like Who do you think you are .That has not been finalized yet. So if you would like to know where you come from ,or if you have any friends you think would love their family tree done please let me know , you can contact me by leaving a comment here or via my website at http://www.acadian-roots.com/
This will not be a tree with names, it will be more like a story . We may open a group on Facebook regarding the project which we have not names yet, I will let you know where it is and what it is called as soon as I know. If you contact me please put Project Candidate in the subject line of your email ok? We are excited about doing this because our efforts may make someone very happy and it will be something they can pass down to their descendants.
Changing the subject , I have added more funny tee shirts and some mugs, posters, postcards and more on my gallery please stop by at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
Thanks for the visit
Have a great day

Just Imagine if
Imagine if there was such a thing as a time machine and we could go back in time, to the times of our ancestors and be able to watch how they lived?
What would we see? We probably would see the women hard at work either at home making meals and weaving and knitting and sewing or out in the fields helping their husbands.
The men would either be preparing their hay for the harsh cold winters by putting the hay in their barns ,or they would be out hunting for wild game to feed their families, or fishing for food. But after the work was finished what would they be doing? After a hard days work, maybe they sang songs? Or maybe they told stories? It would be so good to be able to know how they lived so we could return from our time machine and write all these things down.
What about the children? They surely must have had time to play. What did they do to play? What kind of toys would the parents have made them? Maybe they went out and played with the animals or perhaps played some sort of games together. Maybe they did some exploring and let their imaginations run wild.
When night time arrived, they would probably have gone to bed early, or listened to their parents tell stories by the fireplace or by the candle lights.
There must have been a lot of laughter at times in their homes, and other times a lot of heartbreaks. Oh yes, if only we could go back in time for just a little while, what a lot of things we would be able to see.
Did our ancestors dance? Did they play music,or travel to their neighbors house sometimes far away to listen to the music and maybe sing or dance?
Can you imagine our ancestors dancing something like a square dance ,while laughing and being happy for a little while? And what about when their daughters got married? Did they party? Did they make a Chavary back then? Imagine if only we could travel back in time. Would the children be peaking around the corner watching the dancing and listening to the music all interested? Or would they be in their beds in a sound sleep. All these things run through my mind, and I often think what a wonderful thing it would have been if some of our ancestors would have left us a diary of some sort, so that we would have known them so much better. Imagine too, the hardships that they had, they were living in the woods, well cleared but still surrounded by the forest, can you imagine the mosquitos, black flies, horse flies, sometimes they must have been bitten some bad, and I imagine that is why we read that they had their faces covered with ashes to prevent the mosquito bikes. Imagine if they could talk to us, what a story they could tell.
On another note next week is Thankgiving for some of you readers,I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving day, and also to my cousin Eve and her family.
Now I want to add that I have been adding stuff to my Zazzle Store, and the latest ones are in my First Name Folder and my Birthday folder, so check it out, I also noted my prices were awful high so I have fixed that too. I shall be adding more as i go along. You can just go window shop if you want to at www.zazzle.com/allicor* or check at the bottom of this page and enjoy

Got a taste who what our Ancestors went through
Well it is true I got a taste of what some of our ancestors went through. It began last night around ten pm. I was minding my own business, really involved in adding some cemetery transcriptions on my website ,when poof, off goes my computer, and I was in the middle of putting all the names on my page. Oh no! I lost everything? Sob sob. (so I thought). Wonder what happened? Oh well, the power must have gone off, but we still had lights. Then no computer but the television was still on. So onto the sofa we went. Oh a good story. All of a sudden POOF , no television ,no lights and it was pitch black, and I mean pitch black. Where are my flashlights? Oh I have a spotlight, here it is. Where is the on button? I cannot find it. Oh never mind I will go get the other flashlight. So here I am in pitch black darkness, feeling where I am going, in front of the sofa, now to find the wall in the hallway, oh there it is, now there is an open door I have to pass, there it is. Now where is the closet door knob? I felt and found it.
So no lights at all. I opened the door to the hallway outside, pitch black. Now I felt as if I was back in the sixteen hundreds, with no lights, only darkness. I am only glad we did not have an outhouse. Clumsy as I am I dread thinking what would have happened had I had to go out to it. grin. The power was off until around noon today, I believe lightning may have hit a transformer, because last night it was very very windy. And we heard thunder. Another thing we had those portable phones, and they are plugged into the wall socket so no phone. Guess where we went today? To walmart and we got a corded phone, now if the power goes off again we will at least have a phone working.
I hope you had a much better day than we did. grin.
Thanks for the visit, do stop by again.

Acadian Ancestors and This and That
Transportation in Sainte Anne Kent County was probably like many other new villages in the times of our ancestors. They had no roads so they travelled through path's in the woods or by boat up and down the rivers by canoes or Dores. The folks from Sainte Anne would travel via the rivers to attend Mass in Bouctouche or Richibouto Village. And when they travelled through the small beaten paths in the woods, they would do so by horse and wagon and in the spring they would get stuck in the mud and mire and can you imagine the times that they had? Some of the men laid down logs or pressed them into the mud in order not to sink any deeper. According to one of the elders , the men would travel though the woods or by water as far as Memramcook to meet the ladies. To them it was an everyday way of living. . In the winter times they would use snow shoes made of animal hides on the snow so that they would be able to stay on top of the snow and not sink in. The other day I was visiting Mom and they showed this native american making snowshoes and Mom said to me "My Dad used to make those, and he would make a small pair for my mother because her feet were so small. "She continued saying he would lace them up with the rawhide and then wet the rawhide and it would shrink and make the snowshoe stronger. It is so interesting to me, just listening to stories about long ago or reading about it.
Because our ancestors did a lot of those things that is talked about.
Now on another note, I have added more names from the 1940 Obituaries in the Evangeline French Paper which I translated to English on my website at www.acadian-roots.com Click on Evangeline obituaries. I have also added a new page on Genealogy Resources, if you are looking for a webhost, or for anti virus software or genealogy software of any kind or genealogy links check out my Genealogy Resources while you are at acadian-roots. Some of the links are subcriptions and some are free.
Well a few days ago I bought an exterior hard drive and I decided to save some of my information so that I don't lose them. Anyway I am not too smart on this part so I wanted to save my files on Acadian-Roots, so I downloaded a program called Zilla and I fiddled around until I found a way to download my files from Acadian-Roots, if you have ever been there you will see I have a huge photo gallery along with my site. Anyway my tranfers started, and it kept going and going and going , I saw these files being transferred, 1000, 2000 ,3000, Wow 'What is being downloaded anyway?" Well would you believe it also downloaded every photo that is on my photo gallery? I have over 6000 files transferred or saved. WOW. That is a lot of files. So now if ever my computer crashes I have all that stuff on an exterior hard drive.
I would suggest if you have a lot of things on your PC that you do not want to lose, to buy an exterior hard drive, you can get different amount of Gigabytes, mine has 320 GB. Should last me a while huh?
I would also like to mention that this week Petit Francois will announce the winners of the contest he is running, and if you want to enter for the month of October, send him an email with your name address email and mention Acadian-Roots or acadianroots in your email to
ptitfrancois@yahoo.com
