About Scotland

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom. Sharing a border to the south with England, to the north and west with Atlantic Ocean to the east with North Sea and to the southwest with the Irish Sea. Scotland consists of around 790 Islands. Now many Scots left their homeland for places such as Nova Scotia where the first Highlanders arrived in Pictou on th Hector in 1773 .In Ontario the first major Scottish settlement was in Glengarry established in 1784 .They came from Inverness-Shire. There were many famous folks who were Scottish. The two first Canadian Prime Ministers John A MacDonald and Alexander MacKenzie were from Scotland. Other famous people who originated from Scotland or were descendants of Scots were Alexander Graham Bell inventer of the telephone, Robert Burns, Robert the Bruce (king), Sir Walter Scott, and we cannot forget the Loch Ness Monster Nessie who came from Loch Lomond.
The Scottish people had their own clans that gave them a sense of identity and shared descent to folks in Scotland. Every Clan had its own tartan patterns, some had more than one tartan. They would wear their tartans on their kilts, ties, scarves or other clothing.
The first record of a CRAWFORD tartan was that of Crawfovrd which appeared int eh Vestiarium Scoticum manuscript in 1642. The tie image above is that of the Crawford Tartan.
I have and am creating some items with some Scottish Tartans on my gallery. You can view them by clicking on clans and tartans at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I have lots more to add.I created some ties, shoes, hats, invitations, postcards, buttons and keychains so far. So if you have some Scottish Ancestors I do hope you will check out my products. Thank you for the visit ,do stop by again.

My dream regarding Genealogy

As many of you know,Ancestry has a show on television called who do you think you are, it is published on Fridays on NBC . It is a seven part show, tracing the families of seven celebrities.
I have watched the first two episodes,I really enjoyed the second one where they traced this black man's line back to slavery and he found out he had white blood and also his great great great grandmother came from the coast of Africa and he went there. Next Friday they will be tracing someone else. I am anxious to see Brooke Shield and Susan Sarandon's lines.
What intrigues me is going back to the land of our ancestors, mine go back to Sussex England on my paternal side and to Amboise France on my maternal side. I want to know more about my ancestors. Now I have a line it was known as Chase here, but I traced it through a land grant to the surname Chate and lo and behold I found them in Deptford England, then in Cuckfield England and in Henfield England. The name has various spelling,Chase,Chate,Cheat,Chatt,I am wondering if they were not originally from France and known at Chatte. Now a new surname has arisen,Bennetts from St Giles Camberwell Middlesex England. This would be the line of my Nanette Rose married to Abraham Chase. The excitement grows as I find even a date or location. A few years back a professor Marius Damboise went to Amboise France and he found the baptism of the first Barthelemy Bergeron to arrive in France, we were led to believe that Barthelemy was the son of Antoine Bergeron and Catherine Scarron but not so, there were no baptism for any other Barthelemy there and his parents were Rene Bergeron and Anne Dagault.
Now as I am very curious I would like to know more about this Rene and Anne.Maybe one day.
So my dream would be to complete my family tree,go back as far as I can.
If you have not begun tracing your family, you don't know what you are missing. There may be some great stories along the way.My Barthelemy served under Iberville, he ran a bakery in Montreal, he sailed up and down the Bay of Fundy where the rocks and Cape Enrage are.
Do you have time on your hands? Would you like to do something different? Then start tracing your family tree, it is a very interesting and can be very addictive too.
Changing the subject, as you know I have a gallery, you can see it at the bottom of this page, I am now creating men's shoes, along with women and childrens. There are two kinds of men's shoes , hi rise and lo rise, they are Keds athletic shoes worn my famous folks. I hope you will check mine out at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
Until next time have a great day, thank you for stopping by

Where is Aline?

That must be the question circulating on the web the last few weeks. Well on Feb.22 I had foot surgery and I really ,honestly believed I would be up and about within a few days. Not so.
To make matters worse, thought I was smart and decided to try the crutches first day, bad bad mistake. I fell. So off to the Emergency I went. Didn't damage the surgery, but sure had a lot of pain. A few days after that , I noticed a rash on my jaw line, I figured it was from the pillow or sofa, thought nothing of it, but the next morning it was spreading, so I read the side effects from my pills, oh no a rash can occur meaning an allergic reaction,so back to the Emergency I went.
The doctor came it and said "My dear you have the "Shingles". I could not believe it, I have never had them before. So I am on pills for that too. Yesterday back to the Emergency ,the doctor removed the stitches in my foot ,(talk about hurt) he said it was because the stitches were very tight and then he bandaged my toe really tight to keep it straight and left the pin in my other toe to be removed in three weeks. I haven't walked yet, I will need to walk on my heel, am not very brave right now. But I am going to get a Boot Cast as soon as I can have someone take me, it is like a shoe with a small heel. I hope it will give me more steady support.
Now that is what happened to me, my friend was suppose to help me at home and didn't he land in the hospital the second day, he has a bad heart and when he went to the hospital they transferred him to a heart hospital for heart surgery, he will be getting a quadruple bypass.
So as you can see, I have a good reason for not blogging. Today I was wheeled here for a little while so I decided to come and blog.
I did a few more articles for my store, and I also sold a postcard today, yeaaaa. But it is going to take me a little while longer to get back to normal. Right now my foot is getting a little numb.
So I will say bye for now, keep checking back,I did not want you to think I stopped blogging,
Have a great day
Thanks for the visit

Who in the world is P'tit Francois?

Good morning everyone, and thanks for stopping by. On Thursdays we sometime go to the Bingo, don't ask if I win. grin. I could be one of two persons alone in that bingo hall and the other person would win it all. Sigh! Anyway as I enter the bingo hall, usually the french paper L'Etoile is at the entrance . It is a free newspaper so I usually pick it up if it is available if not I pick up the paper elsewhere. Anyway while we wait for the bingo to start, I open the French paper and make my way towards the back pages. There I find an article called "P'tit Francois des Bois". It is a weekly article written in french, and the french he uses is Chiaque or a slang used my many Acadians. It is a continuing story. P'tit Francois lives in Bouctouche Bay (Au Fond de la Baie). He is single and is having having problems with a couple of widows at the moment. He has one who lives at his house and he cannot get rid of her even tho he wants to and the other widow Edmee lives in a fancy house in Memramcook. At the moment P'tit Francois accepted an invitation to spend a few days with Edmee, but Rose is furious and she has followed them there. So while I am at the Bingo I try to translate the story to add on my webpage. I have not translated it this week yet, but am working on it. You can find the article on my website at http://www.acadian-roots.com , Look for P'tit Francois on the sidebar. It is written if French and translated to English so you can read both versions, the french is more hilarious because of some of the french sayings but the english translation is not bad either.
Changing the subject now, I am still reeling from finding my Abraham Chate and Ann Bennett's marriage and her death, now I need to find her line , and also the death of Abraham. Might take me another 30 years by then I will be up in age , grin. But my motto is 'one day at a time and never ever ever give up."
I sold a Moncton mug today, yippee. I will never be rich but the idea that someone likes something I created makes me feel very good. The penny on the keychain image here, is a 1910 penny, one hundred years old, could this keychain be a lucky charm? King Edward V11 was the king at that time and he died in 1910 as well. He was the great grandfather to Queen Elizabeth. You can see more items of this penny and other items as well on my gallery. My latest products are Butterflies, boy the swallowtail butterfly is beautiful.I have also added Eskimo dogs or sled dogs a few days ago. If you feel like having a look around, there are tee shirts, mugs ,stickers, keychains, posters, greeting cards and I even have created some ladies and children shoes, at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* enjoy
Thank you for stopping by, if this is your first time, you can read my past blogs there are plenty of them to keep you busy.
Have a great day

Genealogy and why I am so happy

Well somedays a person gets up and go through the everyday motion, you get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, do your chores and get on the computer. grin. But today I got up, washed , no breakfast no chores but headed for my computer.smile

Well as you know one of my hobbies is genealogy. I have been into genealogy since way back in 1976, and I have stumbled upon many a good story about my ancestors but some of them were elusive, they were in hiding somewhere. My great grandfather only choose to let me find his death about two years ago and I had been searching since 1976 can you imagine? And can you imagine how excited I was when I went and looked in the Provincial Archives and lo and behold there he was .So that solved that search, then I had other ancestors hiding somewhere, but these were way far away in England. Now to do research in England when you are in New Brunswick Canada is not an easy chore. I had written to different addresses in England before I had a computer and way back then, I did my research by writing and asking. So a thorn in my side was my Abraham Chase that is the name he was known under when he arrived in New Brunswick and on his first record which was his marriage to Marie Rose Girouard the priest had different spelling for his surname, they had Kess,Quessy,Chase, so I worked with all these surnames to no avail. The census said he came from England. Not much to go on huh? Anyway one day I was looking to land grants and didn't I find my Abraham but his surname was listed as CHATE. Oh boy a clue. Also his marriage record said his parents were Abraham Chase and Nanette Rose. Hmmm.So to the Mormon Site one day I went looking, and didn't I find my Abraham Chate born in Deptford England son of Abraham Chate and Ann?, also found another brother and sister to my Abraham. Now this was a long time ago that I found all this info.I have been looking ever since for information on his parents, I have the Chate line all traced back to the early 1600s but I had no last name for Ann nor a date of marriage. Today I hit paydirt. I will give you my source in a second, didn't I find the marriage of Abraham Chate and Ann BENNETT (which sounds like Nanette) married in 1790 in London England. Now maybe my Abraham told the priest (remember Abraham must have had a British Accent and the priest was French) that his mother was Bennett instead of Nanette and the priest could have misunderstood. Then I went to look for the death of Ann Bennett and I found her in Deptford England where my Abraham was born , I havent found the death of Abraham husband of Ann yet. But I am so excited to finally have found this couple. I don't have the parents of Ann Bennett so far, I do hope I can find her.Where did I find this? Well I got an email today from Ancestry.com, they have added new records and they have Births,Marriages and Death Records for London England. They also have more records for Connecticut,Vermount,Delaware,Ohio, and they are expecting to add more. If you are interested in subcribing to Ancestry, I believe I have a link going to them on the sidebar. And now speaking of London England, yesterday my Mom gave me a 1910 penny that she polished and cleaned for me to use on my gallery so I have created some keychains,magnets,stickers,tee-shirts,mugs,and what I am most proud of is the binder that you see. One the front I added the front of the penny or cent with King Edward V11 on it, he was Queen Victoria's son and Queen Elizabeth's great grandfather. On the back of the binder I added the other side of the penny or cent. This binder can be used for anything you want, a journal, an album, genealogy records, workbooks ,school binders and much more and you can even name the binder . You can find these items at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
So I do hope you have enjoyed my blog, one last note I would like to say, when doing your genealogy or family tree never ,ever, ever, give up.It took me 34 years to find my marriage of Abraham and Ann Chate.
Have a great day

St Bernard Church in Moncton and Tee shirts

Today I shall discuss two topics, the first will be the tee shirts because I could not add the images at the bottom of this blog.I shall continue about St Bernard after.
The reason for the t-shirts is because there is a 15%sale on this weekend and there is only tomorrow left, I have created lots of tee shirts the two here are some you can personalize, you change the names to your choices. I also have funny tee shirts, animals tee shirts, children tee shirts, so if you want to save on the tee shirts they are great for birthdays, St Patrick Day,Reunions and much more. The mugs are ten percent off too . I even have a ball team tee shirt for ladies you personalize it to, so now would be a great time to buy. Go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* click on tee shirts, or acadian cajun, or children they all have tee shirts and the humor page also.
Now getting to Saint Bernards Church in Moncton New Brunswick:
Saint Bernard is the Mother Church of Moncton City, and the cradle of its Catholic community. There were no Catholics among the first who settled in what was to become the city of Moncton after the Exile of the Acadians. A first church had been built by the Acadians near the site of the actual Bore Park called La Chapelle and the surrounding area was called Terre Rouge.(translation Red Earth). This whole area was plundered and burned by the ravages of Scott at the time of the deportation in 1755. Thomas Cocoran an Irishman who arrived in 1810 was maybe the first of many others of his catholic faith in the Moncton area. As the population grew the Mass was said in private homes and in the Free Meeting house on Steadman Street. This prompted Father FX Lafrance of Memramcook to buy in 1851 a lot of land for the building of a church. However twenty years had passed before a first church was built by Father John Murray pastor of St Anselme. Five years later Father FX Cormier began building a bigger church which was finished April 20 1879 by Father William Foley,Moncton's first resident priest. Three years later in 1882 with the appointment of Father Henry A Meahan as Parish Priest Moncton City became the parish if St Bernard. The families of Irishtown were also served by the new parish. The 3rd St Bernard cornerstone was laid in 1888 . The first Moncton native ordained as a priest was Francis Walker 1916. Father Meahan was replaced in 1905 by Father Edward Savage pastor till 1938. The Moncton Cathedrale was built in 1914 . My father was baptized in St Bernards, his father was born there and his grandfather Jake Williams married Osite Leger in St Bernards so that church is special to me. My grandparents married in the Moncton Cathedrale in 1914 .So they were among the first to marry there.
I found most of this information in a book I bought today called 50th Anniversary of the Moncton Diocese. Very interesting book.
Hope you liked today's blog, be sure to check out my tee shirts and mugs. Thanks for the visit and do stop by again
Have a great day

Coyote Attack in New Brunswick

Wanted to share this newspaper article with you that came out in the Moncton times transcript,http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/front/article/951140
What a surprise to open the paper and this article on the front page described an attack on a woman in Saint Charles New Brunswick by a coyote while she was protecting her pet. Can you image the fear she must have felt? And had she not have been there she would have lost her precious pet. I once lived in the country not that far from there and where I lived they had cats, that were wild and some who were pets, and we would see a certain little cat around for a long time and poof it dissappeared so we had figured it was the coyotes. So if you live where coyotes have been seen please watch your pets. And if the coyote attacked the woman, who's to say it won't attack another human. We should always be aware of this.
Well we are having nice weather these days. Yesterday we went out and it was so very nice. The more days we have like these, the shorter our winter will be.
I am still as busy as can be. My genealogy site is doing good, if any of you want to join us, we are a nice group all willing to help if we can, we focus a lot on acadian and cajun but we can also try and help you even if you are not. Acadian Ancestors are easier to find but with all the resources out there others are getting easier too.
Our Chat and Brag room is always busy, always someone sharing photos or stories or just being there if we need a friend. Old Photos of New Brunswick on Facebook is another one of my groups, if you have old photos you want to share of places or people in New Brunswick please join us. And if you have any Williams dit Bristol in your lines there is also a group on Facebook called Williams dit Bristol you are welcome to join.
Whew! And finally my store: You never know what you will find , have created some funny tee shirts lately, trying my luck at invitations and business cards. I also have decided I wanted something for the younger folks, so I am working on a spooky folder, right now I have added a few things, these are cute and funny and will be adding more. You can go window shop if you like at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* If you see something that catches your eye you can purchase it ,also if you see something you would like with word changes ,can do that too.
Anyway ,thank you so very much for stopping by, hope you enjoyed today's blog.

Acadian-Cajun Announcement

Contact: Ray Trahan FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Telephone: 337.288.2681

LOUISIANE-ACADIE, INC. ANNOUNCES
“GRAND RÉVEIL ACADIEN / GREAT ACADIAN AWAKENING”
Lafayette, Louisiana. January 29, 2010 - Louisiane-Acadie, aiming to fulfill the mission to mobilize all Acadians to participate in the continued expression of their native French language and culture, announces "Grand Réveil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening”, a one week gathering of Acadians from around the world, to be held in Louisiana in October 2011.
From September 30 to October 9, 2011, the entire Acadiana Region will open its doors to welcome family and friends, who want to celebrate and assist in helping preserve the Acadian/Cajun culture, customs, traditions and history of the first North American settlers, the Acadians. The "Grand Réveil Acadien / Great Acadian Awakening” will be held the week before Festival Acadiens et Créoles and will close with a huge celebration of renewal on the last day of the Festival.
After engaging a group of young adult Cajuns (Les Jeunes Cadiens) to represent the Louisiana Acadians at the 2009 World Acadian Congress, an awakening of their heritage became evident. "The spirited Acadians of the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick , hosts of the 2009 Congress, more particularly the “Grand Rassemblement Jeunesse”, sparked a renaissance and awakening of our younger generation's pride and interest in preserving their Cajun ancestor's native French language and culture,” states Louisiane-Acadie President Ray Trahan.
The Acadians left France in the early 1600s to colonize “Acadie,” present - day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Canada. Years after the Deportation of 1755, over 3,000 Acadians arrived and settled in south Louisiana bringing with them the French language and rich French-Acadian customs. These settlers, now called "Cajuns," are estimated to number over 600,000. As the Louisiana gulf coast, where many Acadians settled, dwindles, the Cajuns are forced to move further north to English-speaking communities. Consequently, as the older generation of Acadians passes away, our French language and many Cajun traditions risk being lost forever.
When Cajun parents/grandparents pass away, material possessions from those loved ones are dearly preserved to remember and honor them. "There is no better way to honor and remember our loved ones, than to keep and to live their native French language and culture,” says Trahan.
The importance of keeping this momentum cannot be lost. It is time to invite the world, especially those of Acadian descent, to join us, in Louisiana, and continue the fight to keep this culture alive!
We have awakened a renewed spirit of our Cajun people and need everyone, including our international families and cousins, to support us in our efforts. Vive l’Acadie!

Alzheimers and Genealogy

Alzheimer is a brain disease affection mostly people 65 and over, but there are cases of people as young as 30,40 and 50 getting the disease. Alzheimers is a progressive disease. People with Alzheimers are forgetful, they lose things, they get lost. They have mood changes at times.
Things that they used to do everyday are unfamiliar to them. There is a reason for my title as you will see later on.
We found out my late husband had Alzheimers in 1995, he was a very smart man. He was an electrician and a very good one. He could do crytograms without writing anything down, he would look at it and decifer it right away. I noticed he was forgetting first of all by his driving, his sense of direction was all wrong, he would be on the wrong side of the road and say he wasn't. It used to take him five minutes to fix a lamp, but it was at a point it took him over an hour and sometimes longer. Once we found out he had Alzheimers, he progressed very fast, from not walking, to not talking to not eating unless his food was pureed. It was a very hard time for the both of us. Me being the caregiver and him being the patient and not knowing why things were happening. I am so happy that before he took sick we shared his memories. He told me about when he was single and the things he did. The fun he had. And I made notes , not knowing that soon he would have Alzheimers. As you know Alzheimers is a mind taking disease. They cannot remember .He shared with me, a paticular story that was funny. If any of you remember the Canadian MP Claudette Bradshaw, well my husband was a great friend to her father and the boys used to all go there. My husband always wore shirt and ties and suits before he married me and he liked his beer, and anyway this paticular time he fell asleep on the sofa in his suit ,tie and white shirt. While he was sleeping someone put a live hen on his chest, and when he woke up, he saw it and said "Hya Chicken" and the chicken was so scared it dirtied all over his white shirt.
I found that to be so funny that I added it in a story book I made for my grandson.
So this is the connection with Genealogy and Alzheimers, before your love ones come down with the disease or if they are just beginning, Now is the time to ask questions about when they were young, maybe get them to tell you about favorite recipes, or first loves, how they met their spouses, if they remember their christmases of long ago. Ask them to talk about their parents, and be sure to have a tape recorder ,or a scribbler, or note book and your digital camera on hand. This is something you or your love ones will treasure later on. Because Alzheimers robs them of their memories, and when the memory are gone, there is no getting it back.
Thanks for the visit do stop by again. Be sure to check out my gallery my recent additions are mugs, postcards, posters, magnets, badges of Moncton New Brunswick, go to my Miscellaneous folders, then to cities towns and places, also check out my mousepads and postcards, and more mugs. http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* enjoy.

Will it be as good as Roots?

I am certain many of you have watched the television series Roots by Alex Haley, it told the story of an african boy kidnapped and sold into slavery and the saga continued with his daughter and grandson. It was a very good story. And from that show, it got a lot of people interested in tracing their families. Now I just received word that on March 5,at 8pm/7 Central time,NBC is going to air a new show called Who do you think you are? The idea was taken from a UK TV show which got a lot of people into genealogy. The one that will air on NBC is going to be celebrities finding their roots. This should be very interesting. Some of the ones taking part are Brooke Shield,Susan Serandon,Sarah Jessica Parker,Emmitt Smith. I am anxious to see the show, since I like Susan Sarandon, and Sarah Jessica Parker. And this show just might get more people interested in their roots. I wonder if there will be some important people among their ancestors, maybe there were pirates,or kings or who knows. Maybe by watching the show we just may see some of our ancestors branching into these celebrities lines. I hope some of you will catch the show. You can read more about it at http://www.nbc.com/who-do-you-think-you-are/

Now speaking about family trees, I have added a few genealogy items in my gallery, and probably will be adding more. My Acadian/Cajun folder has some things too.I also created a nice invitation for a family reunion, I have added it here. It can be found at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* in my greeting card folders.
Thanks for the visit hope you will stop by again

What is Fishing?

There are many avid fishermen out there. What kinds of fishing do they like? Well some are brook fishermen, some deep sea fishermen, soem fish in lakes . They fish for salmon, as you can see by my photo here, they fish salmon in both oceans. Miramichi Salmon Fishing is a well known . Miramichi is located in New Brunswick Canada, and did you know that Bing Crosby the easy listening singer who sang White Christmas used to have a camp there?
Apparently his mother or grandmother was Irish and came from that area.(So I am told). And I am sure there were many other famous folks fishing in the great Miramichi. Now some folks prefer ice fishing. On the paper this week there was an article on smelts, and ice fishing.I quote from the article." Smelts may never attain the iconic status that has earned the Atlantic Salmon,a place on this province's license plates. But this unsung delicacy of the sea will always have a place on New Brunswicker's dinner plates. Now I love smelts when they are caught in the winter, they are sweet. Rolled in flour ,seasoned with pepper, a tad of salt if possible and fried until a golden brown. Oh this makes my mouth water. I remember my late husband used to go smelt fishing on the ice, the ice was frozen hard enough for cars to drive on and they would go by truck. I kept hoping the ice would be hard enough, yep it was.Once they got to their destination, the fishermen had little huts all around, inside the huts they drilled through the ice until they hit the water and used to fish from those holes. The men would dress warm to go there even if they had their little huts.
Now some folks like to fish for trout, there are brook trout and sea trout, but I love the brook trout the best. I went fishing a couple of times, but guess what? Someone always had to put the worm on my hook. grin. No way did I want to touch the worms. It must have been frustrating for them because as soon as I got the worm on my hook, I would cast in the water, if I didn't catch a branch I got a trout. Now once I caught the trout it was "take it off! take it off!"
Another time we went by boat, my brother in law had a sports boat and we went on the open waters off of Saint Louis and he had equipment to jig makerel and cod fish, so he showed us what to do, and lo and behold I caught makerel and makerel, when we returned to shore the bottom of his boat was filled with cod and makerel since the cod follows the makerel. Talk about a smell in the boat, and we bottled some fish, we gave a lot away but it was a fun day.
There are some who fish Eels, (not me I am afraid of them)others fish for shad, or sturgeon, and so on.There are many many kinds of fish out there which means there are many fishermen who prefer to fish their choices. Now there are many ladies who love to fish, as well as many children. You see in stories about a little boy on his bicycle with his fishing rod on the way to fish.
Now speaking of fishing, I want to mention, the image at the top of this page is a mousepad I did ,and I also have created things with trout on and funny fishing products. You can see them in my gallery, check out fishing, and also check out miscellaneous ,and more mugs and magnets.
I intend on adding more fishing things. Go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* while you are there check out my valentines, just created a new one today .
Have a great day thanks for stopping by

Winter Time Blues

We don't need to get the winter time blues, we need to occupy our minds with whatever we like best. I love genealogy, and I have a lot of dates and information to add to my family tree. My family software is not full yet. So if you like genealogy, catch up on your work, do a bit more digging. If you are not into genealogy, what about working on your scrapbook, I am sure you will think of new ideas to do. If you are into exercises, then do some indoor exercises, move your feet, wiggle your hands, shake your booties, walk up and down the stairs. Then take a break with a nice cuppa hot coffee, tea, cocoa or milk. Soon winter will be over, the snow will be gone, the robins will return ,(sigh, I can hardly wait)grin. I know what you can all do to shake the winter time blues, I just thought of that (you can come shovel my driveway)haha.
Well I am still thinking up ideas for my store, so I have added a snowy owl series of stuff, a big gorilla and I have given him a name, I created a few new buttons or badges. So if you want to have a look, check out my animals, and wild ones,my miscellaneous folder and buttons,by t-shirts,my humor, and my postcards, and mousepads, hope you like what you see.
go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* Have fun, that is also something you can do to shake the winter time blues, visit my store. smile
thanks for the visit, do stop by again

About Korean War and Mom

Hello everyone, well today I want to share two things with you first of all. Many of you must remember when I mentioned that I had posted a page on my acadian-roots website about a list of POWs and MIAs from the Korean War and how a Mr.Davis was looking for relatives of these missing soldiers in order to match their DNA for identifcation? Well today I received a reply one of the nephew of one of the POWs has come forward and he is going to cooperate,so that is wonderful also he himself is a soldier in Afghanistan. So I am pleased. So many later on another soldier will be going home.
Another thing I want to share with you, we had a reunion last July for the Bergeron-Damboise families, and it was held in Fredericton New Brunswick where Barthelemy Bergeron is said to be buried. And we were honored with a reception and buffet at the home of the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick who at the time was Hermenegilde Chiasson, and there were photos taken . At our reunion we honored our three oldest guests and one was my mother who is 91 and many photos were taken, one paticular one with the seniors with Mister Chiasson and his lovely wife, and yesterday Mom got this parcel in the mail , it was an 8x10 framed photo of Mister Chiasson ,his wife and the three seniors. Mom was so very pleased, she made me laugh she said she was going to hang it on the wall, and there was a photo taken of her and a cute mountie and she wants to enlarge it and put it besides the other photo. grin.
Now I have added an image here I hope it took, this is something I created, and thought I would share it with all of you, it is a poster entitled Family in the Tree. Hope you like it, it can be found at my zazzle.com/allicor gallery. http://rlv.zcache.com/family_in_the_tree_posters-p228035213643247797836v_325.jpg
Another thing, I had also posted on a new book to be published in March, on the first five generation of the descendants of Jacques Mius D'Entremont of Pubnico, if you are interested in ordering the book, you can go to my website http://www.acadian-roots.com/ click on my book corner and the english books, you will see all the information there, I think this book is a great addition to your genealogy library.
I do hope you enjoyed today's blog, when I began I could not think of a good subject but all in all I think I did.
Thanks for the visit
Please stop by again.

Oh Baby it's cold outside

Today the weatherman said minus 17 with windchill factor will feel like minus 28, so as you must have guessed Aline is in the nice cozy house, and trying to find many many reasons not to go out. grin. The title of today's blog reminds me of my grandaughter. When she was around 2years old ,she came to visit and her papa (grandfather)and papa was sick so she had to come with memere(me) to get something at the pharmacy. It was cold that day and I had her all bundled up and I was carrying her and as we were walking I started singing "Baby it's cold outside". All of a sudden she started singing in her own little way "Baby brrrrrr side". Did I ever laugh. Ah memories are something to share and write down somewhere for others to see and laugh or cry one day. For the ones who has children or grandchildren you must know what I mean. Now I was reading about some children from Haiti being adopted in Canada and possible the USA and to the new parents of these children, you have a lot to write about then and now is the time to do so, write how your heart went out to them and you wanted to give them lots of love and a good life. Take a lot of photos of them, tape their voices, and write down how they adapted to their new lives. This will be so important to these children one day. If I would have been one of the people adopting a child, I would get as much information about their lives before I got them as I could, their real parents if I knew and keep a lot of records because everyone wants to know who they are ,where they are from, I have a half sister somewhere, I know it is one of two women but which one is it? This gnaws at me over and over. As the saying goes "enquiring minds want to know". Now changing the subject, last night I worked again on my store and I have added some more postcards , one of Cornwall Ontario, it is an old photo, and a couple of Sudbury Ontario, some funny tee shirts ,and some items with an old King Edward Cent on them, the cent or penny was an old big brown one dated 1910. I have it on a postcard, and magnets, and badges too. I created a hat for all the Canadian Provinces ,these can be found in my Miscellaneous folder. I added a couple of things for Maine USA , and also Acadian and Cajun posters. So if you are in the vicinity of Allicor's store at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* I do hope you will stop by even if it is only for window shopping. I think I shall add this blog on another blog of mine too. I honestly liked what I wrote. Until next time
Have a great day

Did You Do it?

Good morning everyone, the sun is shining, it is a beautiful but cold day. With the wind chills here it is in the minus 20s . Brrr. But yet , we are still so very lucky. Last night we watched the Canada for Haiti show.It was a very good show and while I was watching all the images and the people asking for support and the stories I thought to myself, I want to be a part of it too. I want to help. I feel so very bad for all the little children going hungry , no water and for the parents who must be so worried about their children. So the phone number came over the screen
1 -877-51-42484. So I picked up the phone, dialed it , a voice came over the lines sorry the circuits are busy please try later, No way was I going to try later, so I kept hitting the redial button oh its ringing, then I heard sorry all circuits are busy, so back to the redial and finally I got through. I now feel so very good and to make things much better for the people of Haiti, the Federal Government in Canada is matching all donations, so my donation however big or small will be doubled. But it is not over yet, YOU can still donate until February 12 and have the government equal your donation so please phone 1-877-51-42484 and give? Even five dollars will help, two dollars even. Remember if you give two dollars it makes four dollars going to Haiti.
You can even donate on line by going to CanadaForHaiti.com .
Well now I need to change the subject, as you know I have been going crazy with my store, grin.
Last night I decided to make a Hat for all the Canadian Provinces, well I need to go and add Labrador cause I only added Newfoundland and need to add Yukon. These hats can be for both men or women, there are pinks and there are greens and reds and more. These hats can all be seen in my Miscellaneous folders in the cities and towns. I also made an American hat and a Maine hat. Then I made more for my Acadian folder too. Added some posters for Acadians and Cajuns with a list of surnames. And now I have my Mom involved in this, she is 91 and she needs something to keep her interested so this morning I went to see her, and she said Aline what about this? So I looked at it and Yes Mom I said this is gonna be something different. So I need to make it first will fill you in later. Also if any of you are Zazzlers please join my Fan Club,if you belong to Linkw please do a review on my gallery?I am doing as many of yours as I get to.
Now I need to go blog elsewhere, so until next time, remember to donate to Haiti and please visit my gallery, come by often I keep adding new things, http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
PS I haven't forgotten my genealogy , I keep doing work there too.
Have a great day

NEW Mius D'Entremont Book

Hello everyone, well today I would first like to talk about Pubnico in Nova Scotia. Pubnico is one of the oldest Acadian Settlements in the province, it is situated not far from Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Philippe Mius D'Entremont arrived there around 1653 with Charles Etienne de La Tour and he was given the title of Baron of Pobomcoup. Philippe married Madeleine Helie around 1649. They had a son Jacques born around 1654 who married Anne de St Etienne de La Tour daughter of Charles and Jeanne Mortin around 1678. They had nine children four sons and five daughters and a new book is to be published about the first five generations of Jacques Mius D'Entremont. Here is what I have posted on my website with permission from the Musee Acadien. If you decide to order a book because they are taken orders now I hope you will mention that you heard about it from acadian roots or from Aline Cormier.
A long awaited genealogical publication has just been published by the Société historique acadienne de
Pubnico Ouest listing a five generation family tree of the family of Jacques Mius d’Entremont (1679-c
1759). This volume contains 578 pages and many names representing many of the family names of
southwest Nova Scotia : Mius d’Entremont, Deon, Amirault, Surette, Bourque, Belliveau, Robichaud….
This work has been several years in the birthing. The information has been verified against the parish
registers, the Vital Statistics of Nova Scotia, the Census of Nova Scotia and the United States ,
family documents, personal information, etc. Insofar as humanly possible the mistakes have been
removed, but will still exist.
Many of the descendants of Jacques Mius d’Entremont over the years have moved all around the Atlantic
Provinces and the United States . The search for work and success brought many members of these large
families to many other geographical areas. This volume should be most helpful to all these families
whose roots remain solidly planted in the Pubnicos.
Philippe Mius d’Entremont (c 1601-c 1700), who was the founder of this family and came to Acadia in
1651 received his land grant in this area in 1653. The descendants of his three sons and two daughters
were caught up in the Acadian expulsion of 1756-59. Jacques is one of these sons. The descendants of
the other two sons, Abraham and Philippe II, often appear within the family tree of their brother
Jacques. Thus the families covered in this volume provide a rich source of information for the area.
The book is 8 x 11 in a blue hardcover format. The price is $55.00. Gift a certificate is available.
Some of the names among lots more:
Amirault,Babin,Belliveau,Boudreau,Burke,Bourque,Comeau,Doucet,Goodwin,Gaudet,Landry,LeBlanc,D'Entremon
t,Mius,Geddry,Moulaison,Maillet,Saulnier,Trahan,Theriault,Thibodeau,Duon.Purchase: $55.00Mailing and Handling (if necessary)$15.00Cheque total $70.00
La Société historique acadienne de Pubnico OuestP.O. Box 92West Pubnico, Nova ScotiaCanada BOW 3S0
Pauline d’Entremont - 902-762-2655

There are many other surnames in the book too numerous to list but I do think this will be a beneficial genealogy book for many of you.
Well today I have lots of things to do, I have another blog to create, and my genealogy group to check and my chat n brag and need to do more things for my store.
Last night I created some beautiful christian mugs and posters, I have more to add, I have added some mugs and tee shirts and postcards and a greeting card for all of you who have children who are going to do their Confirmation. I know my grandchildren are doing theirs. The mugs are great to give as a keepsake in memory of their special day. I have also created a beautiful mug of Jesus , you can find thes in my Angels and Religious folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* When I create something, it is a spurt of the moment idea, and I hurry and create before I forget . grin. I have made some sales, my latest were an Acadian Calendar and mugs and tee shirts, I am very pleased and hope to be able to create something that each one of you will like.
I am also making more friends through my store and that is nice. So now I must hurry and get busy, so if you are into genealogy, I would say to you, check out this Mius D'Entremont book, it has so many surnames there that your elusive ancestor just may pop up. And do stop by at my zazzle store? If you are Acadian,Cajun,Irish,English,Native American or anyone else you may just see something that catches your eye. Check out my fishing folder for a laugh, my money mugs and much much more.
Thanks for the visit, do stop by again.

Genealogy plus

Today I would like to talk a little bit about genealogy. I was on twitter earlier and someone is following me and I noticed they asked what genealogy was? I guess the ones who know don't even think of this. We are used to the word and its meaning.
To everyone else who do not know according to the dictionary I have in front of me. Genealogy: Descent traced continuously from ancestor; meaning your father, his father, his grandfather, and so on, until you cannot go any further but wish you could. grin. And what does ancestor mean?It means forefather. And to make it much easier doing genealogy is finding your roots, tracing your family tree. Whew! Genealogy can be fun, it can also be frustrating. You need to be willing to have bad days and good days. One day you will find a whole bunch of stuff, another day you can search till you are blue in the face and come up empty handed. There is one thing to always remember and that is "never ever give up" sooner or later something will pop up. Well maybe not always but a big part of the time. It took me thirty years to find a death of my great grandfather, I had found everyone nearly before him and lo and behold found him. Now I am on a hunt to find the parents of one Anne Landry, I think I know who they are but I cannot say I do for sure until there is some kind of records or proof. For the time being I will say "maybe " she is the daughter of so and so. So if you are not into genealogy ,and family trees, now is the time to think about starting. If not for yourself, do it for your children and grandchildren. Leave them a bit of their history.
Now changing the subject, I received some good news earlier today. Yesterday I posted all over trying to get someone to buy Tshirts from any Zazzle Store, every shirt we sold before midnight last night Zazzle was sending one dollar every time a shirt was sold to the Haiti Relief Center. So I sort of pushed to make a sale, and as I said if a big bunch of Zazzle store owners sold even one shirt the money would add up. This morning I checked and I had sold one shirt, its not much but it is a dollar more on its way to Haiti. I also sold an Acadian Calendar, two mugs,so I was very pleased . Today I created a mug with a one dollar and a two dollar bill, and some tshirts too. You can check my store ,click on miscellaneous and more mugs, and on tee shirts and also some hats in the humor folder. Hope you like what I did. http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
I also did a few tee shirts with my own creation of a poem. smile.
Thanks for the visit, do stop by again.

The Korean War

Today I would like to talk about different things as I usually end up doing. Before I start talking about the Korean War part, I would like to say to everyone who are helping the Haiti disaster in any way ,shape or form, thank you. Thank you for opening your hearts. I know many cannot give money, but I know in your heart you are praying for the people of Haiti. So far, the donations are pouring in all over the world, that is a good thing. We never know, one day we may need help too. All the volunteers who have gone or are going to Haiti and all the soldiers who are being deployed there, you are doing a very good thing. If any of you who are going to Haiti ,and you see a little boy or girl crying, please pick them up and give them a hug, and give them one from me? To all you people from Haiti or to all the ones from Haiti who are here, God bless you all.
Now why did I title my blog Korean War? Well I remember blogging a few days ago about missing families of the POWs, and MIAs. A Mister Davis posted on a forum that I am a member of and he was asking if anyone knew the family of a certain POW ,a LeBlanc and that caught my eye. So my group and I did a little searching for that family, we have succeeded in finding the church where his late mother belonged , we think perhaps the parish priest can locate some siblings.
Then Mister Davis who is a veteran of the Korean War himself sent me a list at my request of other soldiers who's family or relatives are wanted. What they want is to get DNA from relatives of these soldiers in order to identify them when they are found and bring them home. So I have done a little bit of searching and I decided that the more advertising this gets , the better chance of finding the families of missing soldiers. Mister Davis was looking for the USA families but I have added some Canadian MIAs and POWs too. It would be great to have a list of known relatives of these soldiers ,put them on file, and when the soldier's remains are found they can be brought home for a proper burial where they belong.
So if you go to my website and click on R U My Family it will take you to my Korean Soldier pages. At the moment , I have listed the names Mister Davis sent me and I have added DNA after their names, these are the soldiers who's families are wanted, but if you are related to any of these soldiers ,Americans or Canadians please let us know? You can also go to my pages directly at http://www.acadian-roots.com/lastpost.html .

Next I would like to change the subject, wanted to let you know I made a couple of mugs with old used postage stamps on them. One mug has a John Adams,Franklin and Washington postage stamps, these would be nice to just collect, then I made one with Canadian Stamps, mind you these are stamps that have been used that I found on old letters. I also did a beautiful Acadian and a beautiful cajun mug, these can be found in my Acadian /Cajun folder. The stamps are in my Miscellaneous folder under more mugs. Did a couple of new Invitation Cards too.
All these can be viewed at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* or scroll way down the bottom of this page to see the flash panel.
So I hope you did not tire of today's blog, but when I blog sometimes I have so many things I want to say. Other times, I think "what can I talk about today? " grin. Thanks for the lovely visit ,do stop by again.
Have a great day

Sad times for Haiti

Last night , I was listening to the evening news, and I saw lots of photos and videos of the devastation in Haiti due to the earthquake which measure 7 on the Rickter Scale. I noticed the anguish, the hurt, the sadness, the confusion of all these people.
You feel like you want to do something to help,to make them feel better. To give them a hug and say everything will be ok. But for many it will not be ok for a long long time. Many have lost love ones, children, parents, cousins, spouses.
The Canadian Governor has offered to match dollar for dollar for every donation made by a Canadian. So if we give a donation , it means Haiti will get double our donation. Usually at times like these people are so very generous so today ,this is what I would like to say to each and everyone of you out there. Open your hearts , and give if you can. Some of you ladies can sew or knit ,I am sure if you cannot give money, clothes would be a good thing. Do you have clothes in good condition that you don't wear anymore? Why not see if you can donate them to Haiti?
Get a project going like a shoebox idea at your schools. Send care packages with little things like combs, soaps, stockings, find out what can be sent and work on it.
A gift from a child to another child is something special. So to all you teachers out there, now is the time to help. I am sure the students would jump at the idea of sending a care package to other children.
Ladies have a bakesale, with proceeds going out to Haiti. If you live where it is hot, have a yard sale or garage sale with proceeds going to Haiti. To all you men out there, start a collection at work for Haiti. Have some kind of auction with money or a percentage even going to Haiti. Contact your police and see if it would be allowed to canvas from door to door, you probably would have to be registered to do so. Contact your nearest Red Cross and ask how you can help or donate to them for Haiti. Remember "where there is a will, there is a way".
To all you Haitian out there, I send you my heartfelt sentiments. To the ones who lost family, my deepest sympathy.

Cold Winter Days

For many of us, it is winter time and winter brings snow and it brings cold weather. I was listening to the news last night and it showed other places gripped by the cold and bad weather.
Florida for one, is in a cold snap, and this could mean that their oranges will be spoiled and that means if they lose their crops, the fruit in our grocery store could go up in price.
Here where I live yesterday it was cold, with the wind chill factor it felt like minus 25 celsius, and that is cold. I never started my car, I sure hope it will start today because it is still cold.
So what can we do if its too cold to go anywhere? Ahhhhh, there is something we can do and that is to put all our genealogy stuff in order, or start our family tree journal? Rearrange our photos, identify them. If we have a family tree software like Legacy or Family Tree Maker of PAF etc we can maybe add more names, do some searching at Ancestry or if we have French-Canadians lines we can check out Tanguay's dictionary online. Genealogy is a hobby that is endless, meaning there is always something else to do. Has a member in your family or relative passed away recently? Did you add their date of death to your records? What about the ones who just got married? Now is the time to take notes it will save lots of time later trying to find those dates.
Now changing the subject, I have been busy with a few things, I am thinking of adding something on my website, but am researching on how to do it, this is a project that may help someone in some way. If I do it , I will let you all know when it is finished.
And I am still creating things for my store, (you can see the flash panel way at the bottom of this page). Today I made two reunion invitations, (but I am hoping to get better at it) and I did some funny stuff yesterday. You can see the invites in the greeting card folder and the funny stuff in humor , and in tee shirts, did some Irish things too. So you can go window shop, the store is quite big , and if you happen to like something it is there for sale. I recently sold some invitations and I was glad ,because it gave me incentive to create more. grin. Oh and if you go to the children folder you will see a postage stamp of three children, (I am one of them)and I an now on a postage stamp. grin. These are real postage stamps approved by the USA Post. I also have other postage stamps, a valentine girl one, another pretty little girl, Rocky the Raccoon, and more.
I have lots of funny bumper stickers, also some with good advice. You can go to
http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* and look around. Now it is coffee time and so I shall see you all next time.
Have a great day

Mothers

Mothers contribute so much in life , they are the heart of the families. This must have been carried through the times. If we traced all the ladies on our maternal line, I wonder what kind of ladies they would have been. Mothers are there for their children , they teach them, they feed and dress them, they support them and most of all they love them.
Yesterday I went for my daily visit to see my Mom, and she knows I love old stuff, meaning old photos, old papers and documents. So yesterday she took our her valentines and cards .She had this paticular valentine, it was a little girl I believe a german girl, because on the bottom of the valentine it said Germany and Mom told me she got that Valentine when she was six years old, can you imagine? That was 85 years ago and the Valentine is in great condition, so I have scanned it and added it in my store, I created a mug, a valentine, a little girl's shirt, a keychain, and I believe a mousepad with it. You can see it at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* click on miscellaneous folder and then on More Mugs for the mug. I am very proud of the products with Mom's Valentine. There is more to come. Mom said she has other stuff. Yippee! grin. Oh and I sold some invitation cards, I was impressed, sold quite a lot of them. So when I sell something it motivates me to make more stuff.
Getting back to Mother's I want to take my digital camera and tape Mom on it as a video. I am going to ask my siblings to give me a couple of questions each that they would like to see Mom talk about, then I will sit at the table with her. I do hope I can do this. A cousin of mine came to visit Mom a few days ago and he told us that he has recorded the voices of all his siblings and since then two or three have passed away. What a great souvenir don't you agree?
And regarding my last story about the Korean War and finding missing families, I think I did not word my message correctly. Some soldiers have not been found yet, but families of these missing soldiers are wanted so that they can take DNA and have it ready to identify the soldiers when they are found. Apparently many families have done so, but there are many others who havent and this is important in order to have the soldiers brought back home one day.
Have a great day

Korean War, can we help?

Today this blog is being done in hopes that everyone who reads this will spread the word around.
I think it is a very important mission. First of all I belong to different genealogy forums, today I saw a message asking for help on the LeBlanc forum and that message really caught my eye.
The gentleman who wrote it is a veteran of the Korean War and he is helping to try and find families of missing soldiers from the Korean War. As you know the war was over fifty years ago and today with the DNA it is more possible to identify these soldiers. But many of their families cannot be found. I have offered to help find the family of one RAWFORD EDMOND LEBLANC born around 1930 in Massachussetts, one record mentions Templeton MA and I noticed Worcester Mass on another document, I checked the vital record index for Worcester did not find him, I just wrote to Templeton town clerk to see if they a record of his birth. Waiting for a reply. So I was wondering if you could spread the word around to see if we can reach his family so that his ashes can be returned to them. You can reach me at mrsaline at live dot com, remember to change the (AT)to the proper symbol. And the dot to a (.)I am hoping we can all team up and find his family.
Thank you
Have a great day.

Photos,and Genealogy

As I have mentioned time and time again, photos are very important, they are a part of our history. I cannot stress enough how important it is for us to identify the photos. We need to identify the ones we now have, so that the next generations won't have the problems some of us are having identifying old photos. My mother in law passed away in 1976 and she had so many photos with no names to let us know who they were. She had one which we believe one of the two women would be her mother, but we cannot tell which one, and we are not certain of this. If it is her, that is the only photo we have of her. I went to yard sales and flea markets and saw some beatiful photos of people of long ago again no names, that is probably why they are in yard sales they are unknowns, unidentified. It is such a shame. I am sure you must all agree. So we have to make sure our descendants do not say the same thing about our generations, that we never noted who our people were. Another thing we should do in order to preserve our precious photos is not to keep them all to ourselves, share them. The more people who has a photo of our grandparents, the more chance the photo has to survive. Many things can happen to photos, they can be lost, or be in a burning building, or even stolen, if we have ten photo copies instead of only one then the picture will survive much longer. If you have a group , ask them to share their photos. I have a group on Facebook called Old Photos of New Brunswick, and we have a lot of photos posted there, a great idea. And along with being a good idea, we have a chance of coming across new photos of our relatives and ancestors. And photos are also important to go along with our genealogy. Our genealogy is history ,it is about who our ancestors were, where we come from. And putting a face and stories along with the names and dates makes a big difference .
When I first started my family tree, that is what I had, he was born, married and died. Not exciting huh? Now I have he was a captain ,owned his own vessel, sailed up and down the Fundy coast. Now do you see what I mean? And If every a photo of that captain were to show up can you imagine how exciting that would be?
And speaking of genealogy, I would like to add that I have added a few more genealogy products in my shop. Today I made a binder ,you can see it in my Acadian/Cajun folder but it is not only for Acadian and Cajuns, I didn't know what folder to put it in. Also I made a few more genealogy Tshirts in my Tshirt and Acadian folders. Plus I did a few Valentines, and some poodle things.
So I have been quite busy. You can find all that stuff at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
I also have created some USA postage stamps, they are approved by the USA Post, and one of the stamps, is of three little children and guess what? One of the children is me. So I feel honored to be on a USA postage stamps, you can also find the stamps on my site. When I told Mom what I did, she replied "We have to buy some" grin.
Well I do hope you enjoyed today's blog. So until next time, remember what I said about the photos, and stop by my store to see how I am doing . If you are on Facebook I am there too, and I have two groups, Old Photos of New Brunswick and Williams dit Bristol. I am on twitters, and I have a room called Chat n Brag which is a nice family group, we are like a big family tree and it is by invite only and I have my main genealogy group acadianrootsclub that you need an invite, in order to be invited you can join petiteacadienne the url is on the side of this blog. From there I will invite you to our main room.
Until next time

Happy New Year

Well the year is nearly over, and a new one will soon be beginning. So I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. May the New Year bring you much happiness.
Do you have a goal you want to achieve in the new year? If you don't have any, why don't you start a new project . For example, now would be the time to ask your relatives ,aunts, uncles, grandparents, mothers and fathers for little stories for you to write down and enter in your family history notes. If you have not started your family tree, this is a good time to do so. Before your relatives are all gone. Don't delay with this, you never know what tomorrow brings. Or start a journal , you don't have to be brainy to do this, just sit down when all is quite and jot down the events of your day, jot down something special that has happened, your son won something at school, your daughter is a cheerleader , your children got married, write down something about these things. I am telling you, someone later on will enjoy reading all of the stuff we write. My grandaughter has a book I wrote about the days of my Mother's youth, she cherishes the book, my grandson has one on his Papa (grandfather). Papa is gone but he has a book about him. Write stories about your pets, and their names and what they did , were they smart? Write about the birth of your grandchildren. Ask your grandparents for stories about their school days, what kind of car did they have, what did they do in the winter time, how did they spend their Christmas long ago. You will be amazed at the information you can gather. I have done this with my mother, and I am still asking questions, and writing them down. A few days ago, she told me when she went to school in a one room school house, her brother and cousin used to get to school first and light the stove, I never knew this and it was exciting to know. And sometimes when you ask aunts and uncles things and your parents, sometimes the same story gets bigger by everyone's views.
I would love to make a video of my Mom next year, she is going on 92 and has a great memory and I would love to have her share them on a video with me. We shall see.
So until next time Happy New Year everyone, and please stop by my store check out my stuff, I have Acadian,Cajun,Irish things and much more. You can see the flash images at the bottom of this blog or go to www.zazzle.com/allicor*
Have a great day

Monday, December 21, 2009

Hello everyone, I had a few minutes so thought I would come and blog.
The holidays will soon be here, and I am slowly getting things ready. Got the turkey, a 20 pounds, expecting my son and his family over for dinner. It has been quite a while since I fixed a big dinner, so keep your fingers crossed that I do everything right.
I have been busy with my website I added the Moncton City Directory 1949 . I added all the streets in Moncton and the households. I have been wanting to add this for quite some time but never seemed to have the time ,and finally I decided it's now or never. grin. You can find the directory at http://www.acadian-roots.com you will see a lit up NEW on the sidebar. I found my grandmother listed there, she was a widow then. I would have been around seven years old back then. I also added what was said at the beginning of the directory about Moncton.
Next I have been blogging elsewhere for my store, since I don't want to bug everyone too often. I have sold a few things, and everytime I sell something, even if it is only five dollars I get excited because I am not talented when it comes to creating fancy stuff, I am old fashion, and I create what is in my mind. I created a pair of Acadian Shoes, with all surnames on them. I like those. And I did some stuff with lobsters, wolves, these two are my lastest. Anyway if any of you want to look, you can go to the bottom of this blog and see a panel or you can go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*
My Chat n Brag room is growing we are now 71 members. My two groups on Facebook "Old Photos of New Brunswick" and "Williams dit Bristol" are growing also. So if any of these groups interest you check them out.
If you want to join our main genealogy group acadianrootsclub go to petiteacadienne group the url is on the sidebar, and from there I shall invite you to our main group. The members there are great.
For the ones who are just arriving here, you can view your christmas card on my acadian-roots website.
I know there are many readers coming to read my blog everyday and are not added to my followers, but I know you are reading this. To everyone of you, I thank you for believing in me and my blogs. A very Merry Christmas from my home to yours.
Have a great day

Christmas Stories

Around Christmas there are many heartwarming stories, and there are also some sad stories. The sad stories are that there is almost always some tragedies or accidents, such as a home that burned in New Brunswick leaving a family of three homeless. But at least there were no injuries.
I don't know the cause of the fire, but please if you put up a real tree, make sure it is does not get dry, make sure it has plenty of water.
Also there are also heartwarming stories, such as Moncton's Turkey lady Sue Stultz who campains for turkeys. She sets a goal for the number of turkeys she wants and the deadline. All the turkeys are then sent to fill the Christmas Boxes for the needy. A very nice gesture.
I went to a used store this week and picked up a book called "It happened in New Brunswick" and in the book the author quotes from a newspaper article in December of 1961 the following:
"A note placed on a Christmas tree in Quarryville during the shipping season by a 9 year old Quarryville girl has ended up in Houston Texas. About 2.30 pm Wednesday Mayor D.A.Adams
received a long distance telephone call from Byrne Toucheck of Houston saying he had found a note asking for a doll for Christmas signed by Amber Connors of Quarryville N.B. He was asking Mayor Adams to look into the matter to see if there was such a child. Mr.Toucheck asked Mr. Adams if he was the mayor of Quarryville,as he did not know the size of the place or anything about it. Mayor Adams had telephoned and located Amber Connors daughter of Andrew Connors. The little girl said she had put a note on a tree in a carload of trees on the railroad track and ready for shipment. She had not told anyone about doing this until news of the note's arrival in Texas was received. Mr.Toucheck suggested to the mayor that he present the girl with a doll for Christmas.
A little boy named Egbert also did the same thing, except he could not read nor write in English, all he could do was write in French so either his grandmother or aunt wrote the following letter.
"Hello I am a little boy 8 years the 4th of December,I hope you think of me on Christmas Day,send me something for my Christmas.I like to have a pair of skates number 3. Please tell Santa to come here and don't forget me. He tied the letter to a Christmas tree that ended up in Detroit. The skates didn't arrive on Christmas Day but a couple of days after ,Egbert received a parcel in the mail with his skates. He was so proud of the skates that he kept them in the box for a long time showing them to everyone. This Detroit couple found their way to Egbert's home the following summer and kept sending him gifts every Christmas. Finally when Egbert became a man he went to Detroit and while he was there he went to their home. What a lasting friendship that was. And a beautiful story.
I find around Christmas that there are so many people with a good heart. They give if they can, and if they cannot they are also happy to see others giving . You can do so many things, that only takes some of your time. You can volunteer to drive, you can volunteer to deliver boxes for Christmas, you can stop by and see some seniors in nursing home with a hello and Merry Christmas. You can bake cookies and give them to friends, neighbors.
I do hope you liked todays blog. Oh and check out my skunk sticker at http://www.zazzle.com/comical_bumper_stickers-128880613001317099 hope you get a smile from it. Until next time.

Chit Chat

Today I would like to just chat chat with you. So I do hope you have your cuppa coffee ,tea or milk and relaxing. The weather is cold , it is minus 10, so Aline is staying where it is warm and cosy.
I have been busy with Christmas. Our tree is up and it looks pretty good. Of course I cannot take credit for it, my brother decorated it. I wish I had his talent, he is great at decorating, he decorates cakes that are gorgeous. His wedding cakes are so professional looking. And me??? Well you wouldn't want to see my cakes. grin.
My gifts are nearly all bought and wrapped. I have a few more to do. I am anxious for Christmas to come, my son and his family are coming over, and my Mom lives two door over and my siblings will be stopping by.
I have added more names to my Chartersville Cemetery, I have a long way to go to finish but if I add a page now and then it soon will be finished. You can find the cemetery at http://www.acadian-roots.com/ . As a matter of fact you can find lots of thing on my acadian-roots.com , I love my pages on the seniors who lived over 100 years. And I love the music I choose.
I am also busy creating stuff for my store at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor* .Yesterday I made some genealogy realated things. If you check out my tee shirts you will see a cute lady's shirt with a poem created by me. I sort of like it. I have a new genealogy mug in my miscellaneous folder and I have a few new things in acadian/cajun folder.
Now I started another blog called zazzyallicor which will focus on my store BUT I will also blog about genealogy and tidbits there. You can view the blog by clicking on my links here on the sidebar. Or the url is http://zazzyallicor.zazzleblogs.com/ ,
I am still looking for anyone descending from Mathurin Guillaume Williams dit Bristol and Angelique Gauthier for my Williams dit Bristol group on Facebook and I am also looking for anyone who has old photos of New Brunswick and willing to share with us in my group of Old Photos of New Brunswick on Facebook.
So as you can see I have my hands full at the moment, and I have our acadianrootsclub genealogy group and our Chat and Brag group. Wow. "Calgon take me away". grin.
So as you can see this blog was about everything under the sun. smile. In case I don't have time to blog I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Safe Holiday.

Acadian Soldiers

In my last blog I mentioned the journal of the english soldier Jonathan Bancroft who overseen the deportation of the Acadians from Grand Pre in 1755. This is more precious than gold,it is a part of our history come to light through the eyes of a simply 30 year old soldier. If he were alive today he would be surprised at seeing how important this little diary of his was.
Speaking of soldiers, our Acadian Ancestors fought in wars too. There was the battle of Bloody Creek in the 18th century, then Beausoleil Broussard was a freedom fighter.
The Acadians were not fighters as a rule but there were Acadians in the Military,in Canada or elsewhere. In Canada's two World Wars, they were soldiers but rarely officers. Some Acadians were involved in the major American war in the 19th century, the American Civil War. Most Cajuns like more Creole officers where on the side of the Confederacy defending Louisiana. They even had their own general Alfred Mouton. He was killed in action at the age of 35. He was the first American Hero of Acadian origin.
There were also Acadians on the blue side as well as the gray. Dosithe Porelle was born in Shediac NB ,he joined the New Hampshire Volunteers in 1862. He fought in the famous battles of Wilderness and Shenandoah Valley. He was promote many times for bravery proving that Acadians were good in military action. Today we have Acadian soldiers all over the world, Cyprus,Bosnia,Afghanistan. I am certain that all these Acadian soldiers have families at home ,waiting who are so very proud of them.
Now to my store information. Remember the song the 12 days of Christmas? Well today is the third day of Christmas Deals, Today any orders over 25 dollars gets free shipping, and the mugs of yesterday is still on, buy two get 50% off. Well a copy is on line, and thanks to my friend Effie who found it for me I would like to share it with each one of you. So if you blog pass the url around so that everyone will be able to read it. There are 40 pages to download. I just did and it sure looks for interesting reading. This is something new that we did not know about. Something through the eyes of an English soldier. Enjoy and have a great day.

Our Senior Citizens

I would like to do my blog first then I will talk about the image on the upper left so please read the entire blog.
My blog today is about our seniors and why they are so very important.
Seniors are people who have so many things to share with us, if we take the time to listen. Have you ever wondered about the times your grandparents were young? Have you ever wondered what they did every day? How did they pass their time? I often wish , I had talked to my grandmother and her sister years ago, before they passed away. Now it is to late to do so. My Mom told me her mother and aunt had a very good memory and they could have told me so many stories. Today I would be there sitting and listening to them and making notes on every thing they said. Had I not listened to Mom, I would never have known that when my grandfather worked in lumber camps as a filer, my grandmother used to cut the lumbermen's hair for twenty five cents a cut. Back then, that was a lot of money. Nor would I know that my grandfather travelled to work, all over the country, to the USA and Canada, and many times he would take his family with him. These are things that we want to pass on to our descendants, to let them know the real stories about the ways our ancestors lived. In the french paper L'Etoile, last week there was an article on a lady who turned 103 years old. This lady was born in Caraquet but she lived in Moncton since 1975. She is in good health , a little hard of hearing. She remembers spending her youth on her parent's farm. She said they had lots of animals on the farm. She said she remember in school the teacher telling her she could teach children because she had such a great memory. She said we always had a farm, my father wasn't rich but we needed nothing. She is 103 and remembers all the names of her 17 grandchildren. She said she often goes out to the restaurant with her children. She loves to play cards. She said she walks a little in the hallway . I bet if we asked her more questions, we would probably be amazed at her answers. This is what I mean, if we have seniors, in nursing homes, an occasional visit with our pen and paper or even a recorder could result in so many good stories to pass on. I bet if you asked them, how they spent Christmas long long ago, you would be surprised and interested in what they said. So please remember, if you have seniors in your family or among your relatives, now is the time to preserve their memories. Do not pass up the chance to do so.
Now comes the reason for the photo above, Theresa from http://tangledtrees.blogspot.com just awarded me this Kreative Blogger Award, thank you Theresa. In turn I would like to give the award to two that I believe is deserving of it. First to Lynn LaBauve at http://labauvegenealogy.blogspot.com , and next to Rick Arsenault at http://www.myacadianhistory.ca . I know there are many bloggers out there who really deserve awards. In return for the award we have to list 7 things about ourselves.
1. I have been into genealogy since 1976
2. I have never tired of doing genealogy
3.I have in my possession a DVD made from an old movie in which my mother and father are on in, and this movie was in the Centre D'etude Acadienne Archives. Thanks to Regis and Ronnie.

More on Acadian Deportation

I just wanted to come share this with you before I lose the url. It was posted in our local transcript today. So please pass this story around. It is a great find, as I mentioned in my last blog. About the discovery of a journal written during the Expulsion of the Acadians seen from the eyes of an English Soldier. Very powerful and I am anxious to read this ten page journal.
I believe this journal tells us that the Acadians didn't just walk gracefully to the boats, they resisted . I was telling Mom this morning . Just think if someone would come into our homes and divide the family, take my sisters away, and my brothers in another boat what would you do? Mom who is 91 replied." I would fight as hard as I could ".
Anyway I shall post a longer blog next time. Here is the article in the newspaper, please pass it on.
