Today I would like to write my blog in memory of my husband Gerry who passed away July 27 1999. He died of Alzheimers disease at the age of 71. Gerry was a well liked man by all who knew him. He was an electrician with a heart of gold, I remember nearly every Christmas Eve ,someone would phone to say my oven isn't working, my turkey needs to be cooked, Gerry would leave ,and go fix their stoves, and when it came to to be paid, he would say, never mind and Merry Christmas.
He did things on impulse, one time a friend of his came over and said,Hey Gerry wanna go to Montreal to see a hockey? Sure replied Gerry Let's go!, So his friend had to go home to get packed, Gerry said I will meet you at the train station, when Gerry got there, his friend wasnt there, so off to Montreal went Gerry, his friend took the next train and met up with him in Montreal. Another time some friends of ours came over I remember it was Mother's Day and they had just came from a dance, my Gerry had a few drinks and I remember he has his house coat on, not shaven, no shirt, and anyway the man said , Hey Gerry, wanna go to Haverhill? Sure replied Gerry ,Let's go, now remember Gerry had a few drinks, I tried to talk him out of it, but we all ended up going, Gerry got in the car, in only his housecoat, over his pants, no shirt, not shaven. Well when we got across the border he awoke from a sleep, and said "where are we? " But he did not get mad, he laughed about it.
Now Gerry was a good sport, he said yes to everything, and Gerry always carried a hanky, and always was blowing his nose, so this paticular Halloween, us girls wanted to go to a Halloween dance and get costumed, so Gerry said ok, we had his dressed up very good, when we got to the dance floor, someone said you look familiar, but not a word from Gerry, and at this dance Everybody knew him, except for this night. So all night long, no one knew, then we had to go in a circle for the judging of the costumes, in the middle of the circle, Gerry pulls out his hankey. grin. The entire dance hall yelled "It's GERRYYYYYYYY. grin.
He was a great dad to our son, I could not have asked for better, he loved our son so very much. I have photos of them together, I have lots of photos. And when our two grandchildren were born, my Gerry was so happy and so proud. He loved our grandchildren so very much. And they loved him. He was Papa to them.
Tomorrow I shall be going to the cemetery, I shall place a little bouquet of flowers there, just to let him know he is not forgotten. The following is a little poem I just made in memory of him:
July twenty seventh is the day
God came and took Gerry away
Nine years ago this very day
He had to go, he could not stay.
He is not really gone ,you see,
Because he left me good memories
Little things he did and said
They are all tucked inside my head.
To me he will always be number one
Because he gave to me our son
And if you were one of his friends
I am sure you'll meet him again.
Gerry if you hear me
From somewhere up above
Know that we miss you
And we send our love.
Aline, John,Jo, and granchildren.

Date October 3 1876
Newspaper The Daily Telegraph
Source Daniel Johnson
A gentleman in Gloucester Co. recently came across some relics of the past while exploring the archives of the late Hugh MUNRO, Esq. and sent copies to a friend in St. John who has a taste for such curiosities ... But one of the most curious of these old papers is a copy of an undertaking to marry John YOUNG made by one Cicile PETRE. It runs as follows: This Present Certifies - That I, Cicile PETRE daughter of Mary PETRE of Nipisiquit, Bay Chaleur, Do by these Presents before god and the witness hereunto Promise to Marry John YOUNG, Cordweaner of said Nipisiquit and Do by the True Christian faith Promise to perform this obligation of Marriage by the first Opportunity when any of his Majesties Justices of the Pease come to this Settlement. In failure of this Obligation I Cicile PETRE do hereby bind my Self Under the penalty of Twenty pounds to be paid to John YOUNG and Do hereby set my hand and Seal this Eighteenth Day of January in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and three (1803) - (LS) Signed in Presence of Fr'anc's COMMEAUX Jr., James SUTHERLAND.
I did a bit of research and this has to be verified but I found that Cecile Pitre was born in Nicolet Quebec daughter of Michel Pitre and Marie Joseph Orillon ,she married John Young .
John and Cecile must have married in Bathurst,(Nipisiquit was Bathurst) and probably waiting for a missionary or priest to come by and marry them. Now I found at ancestry that John Young was born in Caraquet in 1785 son of John Young and Marie Dedam, and that Cecile married a second time to a LeBreton. Another sources says that John came from Scotland, so need to find his birth in Caraquet to see if it is correct.
One .Cecile Pitre died in Tracadie NB widow of her second husband LeBreton, all of the info I found has to be verified . . Well I just found a birth of a John Young in Caraquet born March 25 1785 baptized May 21 1786 son of John Young and Madeleine Dedam.
Pretty interesting stuff huh?
Have a great day

Acadianroots genealogy group has a new entrance, this is for the folks who are not members yet, I have created a back door that you can enter to sign up. It is called petite acadienne, and if you go to www.acadian-roots.com and click on acadianroots group, you will see I added a join my group button, now this is not directly to my genealogy group, once you join, you can tell me a bit about yourself, and who you are looking for ok? Or you can contact me through the same page with the info I asked on the page. As I said before my acadianroots group is by invite only.
Now on another note, for the ones who are looking for ancestors who were on Prince Edward Island and in Rustico, did you know that many from Rustico moved and settled in St.Alexis de Matapedia Quebec? They went there around the 1860s, and the parish was founded in 1870 meaning there were no priest nor church then, and the records went to Sainte Anne de Restigouche Church, but from 1871 on they had their own church and parish. I have added some marriages from St Alexis de Matapedia on my site with a few marriages from Sainte Anne de Restigouche. Go to my website click on Quebec Marriages, you will see St Alexis de Matapedia in the drop down menu. Hope this helps some of you.
Well thanks for the lovely visit, please stop by again. Have a great day.

Acadie, well next month on the 15th of August will be our National Acadian Day, so first of all I needed some Acadian decorations . So off to the dollar store we went, but to our amazement there were no Acadian Day stuff there, we were told that other dollar day stores did not have them either now what? Ok off to the Great Canadian Dollar Store, it is a bit more expensive than the dollar store, so we went to Bouctouche for our stuff. Oh there are some flags, we need two of those, oh and one for my car, and a magnet for my car, and two glass holders for our drinks, and a shopping bag to put our stuff inside. It is a good start. Next it was off to Moncton and to our Canadian Dollar store, ohhhhhh they have hats, but not sure if I will get one for me, I shall see.
Now where are we going to go this year for Acadian Day, we already went to the Pays de la Sagouine a few times, we went to Cap Pele, we went to Dieppe last year, what about going to Memramcook this year? So we phoned to see what was going on. There will be a mass, then acadian food (mmmm), then music, then the tintamarre, and more music. Yes we shall be going there this year. As many of you know, Memramcook is also known as the cradle of Acadie in New Brunswick. I am sure many of your ancestors may have been there . So it will be nice to go celebrate Acadian Day in Memramcook this year. I shall take photos . All the celebrations are being held not far from the church.
Speaking of Acadie, now the excitement is beginning to mount regarding the Congres Mondial 2009 in Caraquet, we are planning on attending ,not sure which reunion yet, but I am hoping to also meet many of my online friends and members of my genealogy group along the way, and also if any of you will be in New Brunswick on July 18/19 next year and you have Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise somewhere among your ancestors, your name does not have to be Bergeron, it can be Godin, it can be Bellefontaine, it can be Roy, it can be anyone who branches into the Bergeron line along the way, there is going to be a Bergeron dit Damboise reunion in Fredericton New Brunswick to be held at Wilmot Park, we have folks coming from all locations, the Societe Historique de Riviere St Jean is also having a celebration at the same time to commemorate the massacre of the Acadians in Saint Anne des Pays Bas. For more information on the Bergeron Reunion contact me or Lawrence Bergeron at larrybergeron@earthlink.net .
Well I hope you liked today's blog, thank you for stopping by, remember to celebrate in some way for Acadian Day. Or even hang a flag outside.
Have a great day.

Our Acadian ancestors ,were they all farmers? Did they have any trades? Well I am now reading a book called the Acadians of Nova Scotia and in the book I read the following;
Jacques Bourgeois was the only professional man in Port Royal, he was a doctor, he was listed in Port Royal with his wife Jeanne Trahan who was ten years younger than he was. So Jacques and his family was listed at the top of the social scale. Most of the heads of family were listed as laborers or ploughmen but the census also listed many specialized tradesmen. For example there were four coopers including Pierre Comeau who was 75 years of age when he married Rose Bayol 33 years younger than he was.Pierre Melanson was a tailor,Thomas Cormier was a carpenter,Mathieu Martin was a weaver,Pierre Doucet was a mason,Laurent Granger was a sailor,Guillaume Trahan and Jehan Pitre were blacksmiths and Pierre Sire and Abraham Dugast were gunsmiths.
Continuing in the book, I now am reading that the following are the founding families of Cheticamp.
Pierre Bois,
Raymond Poirier and Marie Bois
Augustin Deveau and Rose Richard
Anselme Aucoin and Rose Chiasson
Paul Chiasson and Louise Boudrot
Basile Chiasson and Adelaide Arseneaux
Jean Chiasson and Isabelle Boudrot
Joseph Gaudet and Marie Anne Richard
Pierre Aucoin and Felicite LeBlanc and later to Marie Doucet
Joseph Boudrot and Anne Chiasson
Lazarre LeBlanc and Modeste Chiasson
Joseph Deveau
Joseph Aucoin and Marie Hebert and adopted son Cyriac Roach
Gregoire Maillet and Anne LeBlanc
Also 36 families came across from Rustico on PEI to settle in Cheticamp in 1822 and another 5 families came in 1829.
So if any of the above names connect to your lines or seem familiar, maybe you can check the registers of Cheticamp Nova Scotia.
I hope this blog will help someone or make for good reading. Until next time, have a great day,
thanks for the visit.

BEAUBASSIN;
I am standing in Beaubassin, or where Beaubassin used to be with Mister Charles Burke who is the head of archeology for Parks Canada, and we have a message to all of you out there.
Right now they are doing archeology digs where we are both standing, and Mister Burke has asked me to tell everyone I can, that you are all welcome to go down to view the diggings, you can also participate in the Archeology digs, but you have to register to do so. You can register at Parks Canada Office at Fort Beausejour. My friend and I were there yesterday, and I did not know we were allowed down there, but we were told we could go. I took some photos and will be making a page on my website about it. If any of you go to dig or to take photos and you want to share them with me to add to my page I would appreciate it very much. You can contact me through my website at http://www.acadian-roots.com/ with beaubassin in the subject line .I will not tell you much about my day yesterday until I do my webpage, then I will take you with me on my tour. I was standing in this field thinking " I cannot believe I am standing on where the acadian village of Bearbassin actually was. Could Thomas Cormier have lived close to where I walked? Could his children have played where I am walking? The view of the river is beautiful, I did not take any photos of it, I should have. And I was told where what they believe is the approximate place of the church.
Anyway I would like to encourage you, if you are able to go, to do so. I do know that Ronnie Gilles LeBlanc was going there today. If you do not know how to get there, go to the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick border, and follow the Fort St Lawrence Road past the Tourist Bureau towards the water, if you pass a little bridge with a grey barn on the right side, you are going the right way, you will see the piles of dirt in the fields and probably some archeologists doing what they do best, uncovering a piece of our past. Mister Burke told me that one of the girls found an artifat in real good condition, will tell you more when I do my page.
Have a great day, thanks for the visit, and if you go for a drive, head towards Beaubassin, then go to Fort Beausejour .

Antiques are the in thing lately , I went to a yard sale, and they had this old barrel, and old milk can, and an old wheel for sale. My daughter in law would love those.
Then over the weekend we had a car show, with old antique cars, there were all kinds, and they were all restored ,with different paint jobs, there were orange cars, purple, yellow, green, there were old fords, old studebakers, mercurys and so on. So I was chatting with my friend and into the conversation we said, well if they are restoring cars, and collecting antiques, why could we not restore our ancestors old clothing , and wear them? Can you imagine us ladies wearing the long dresses, and aprons, and wearing our hair in a bun, and wearing the granny shoes. grin. We could get a pair of old granny eye glasses too.
And not to forget you men out there, you could wear old red flannel underwear, haha, and wooden shoes, and baggy pants with suspenders. grin.
Us ladies would have to wear a long peticoat under our dresses. You would think that would be some hot during the summer but I bet the mosquitos and black flies would give up trying to bite us, they could not find us under all those clothes. grin.
We could start wearing fancy hats again, I remember when I was newly married and would buy a new outfit, the hat was included in the wardrobe.
I look at old photos, and I notice in the early 1900s some of the ladies looked prim and proper with their high neck blouses, and long sleeves. I love old photos of our ancestors, I am always asking for old photos of our Acadian Ancestors to add to my photo gallery to share with all of you. But there is also another reason I keep asking for them, and that is in hopes some of the photos will be of some of my ancestors or their siblings.
Well as you know, I have added my trip to Kamouraska on my site at www.acadian-roots.com , I am now working on something else to add to my website. It is only little tidbits but to someone out there it may be a clue about their ancestor. I also want to say, I am proud of my website, I am working hard to make it interesting, but like everyone else , there could be errors here and there, so if you happen to see something that you are interested in, always verify it ok? Some things that I add , is to sort of give you an idea where to look.
Now it is coffee time, so thanks for the lovely visit, and do drop by again.
Have a great day

Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying the nice hot ,humid weather. It sure was humid last night. I guess we complain if it is too cold, we complain if it is too hot, grin. Well I finally finished our trip to Kamouraska and Isle Verte page at www.acadian-roots.com , you will see it listed in the Acadian Road trip page. It took quite a while to upload all the photos, and to get the HTML correct. Sometimes just a dot can cause problems with HTML. I do hope you enjoy reading and seeing the photos.
On another note, our genealogy group is growing every day, many are finding some of their brick walls and I hope many more will do the same. Our group is great at helping when they can. So if you wanna join us, you can contact me through my Acadian Roots site about joining. I wish I could have set my group to anyone can join but in the past there was lots of spamming and conflicts , but I have a back door sort of in yahoo groups called Petite Acadienne, but it is much easier to just go to my Acadian-Roots.com website and contact me there.I also would like to add, even if you do not need help with your genealogy but you are willing to help others ,you are very welcome to join us. The more helpers or researchers we have the better chance of others finding their roots. And if you are also new at researching, do not believe everything that is online, there are lots of mistakes made long ago and have not been corrected online, so whatever you find, always verify it to make sure or ask someone else to help you verify.
For the ones who are going on vacation and won't be online, have a safe and wonderful vacation, come back soon.
Have a great day

Well Summer is here and it is time for family get togethers and fun. There will be lots of festivals, and exhibitions . My friend Effie sent me an article that I tried to post here and it did not show good so I shall give you an idea what it was about.
From July 26 to August 15 Clare Nova Scotia will be celebrating its 53 Festival Acadien. It is expected to attract 40,000 participants to Southwest Nova Scotia to celebrate Acadian people and culture.Three big outdoor concerts running from 7pm to 2 an with no intermission and open to all ages are slated for the Club Social of Clare in Little Brook. This year's line up include New Brunswick's George Belliveau known as the Acadian Keith Urban with guitarist Dylan Robichaud in his band,Chatouille ma Bourique featuring Grand Derangement, the second concert brings cajun music Chris Miller and the Bayou Roots from Lake Charles Louisiana,Cajun Chef and musician Richard LeBoeuf, and the Pine Leaf Boys.JP LeBlanc is among the ones in the closing concert he plays blues. The closing concert on Acadian Day will follow the Tintemarre,in which people decorate their cars and bang on pots n pans or play loud music, anything to make noise as they make their way from the St Bernard Church and Meteghan and Salmon River fire station to the Club Social beginning at 6 pm.And there is much more, to order your tickets go to www.festivalacadiendeclare.ca . This sounds like a really good time .
Now here in Dieppe New Brunswick ,every wednesday evening at the parc they will be having music for the summer, it is free, all we need to do is bring our own chair.
I am not sure where we will be going this year for Acadian Day, I already went to Bouctouche one year, to Cap Pele and Dieppe also. I would love to go to Memramcook, and bring my tent, but at the moment we have not made a decision on where we will go. I love acadian music, and I love cajun music. Can you imagine the CMA2009 next year? I bet there will be lots of music, and fun.Looking forward to going, and meeting all my online friends and many members of my genealogy group.
Now I am also hoping that many Bergeron,Damboise,Godin,Bellefontaine, descendants will be attending our Reunion in Fredericton next year. The reunion will be held at Wilmot Park, across from the old Acadian Cemetery , and across from where the old Acadian Church once was. Here is more about the reunion

This story begins in the last decade of the 17th century. When in 1692 Governor Villebon granted Point Saint Anne (all of the lower part of today’s Fredericton) to Gabriel Godin. (The census of 1693 confirms this fact for us) Gabriel Godin and his wife, Andree-Angelique JEANNES settled the village of Point Saint Anne. During the following years the village prospered and grew. Then in February 1759 a small force of British Troupes (16 men) led by a Lt Moses Hazen raided and destroyed the Acadian village of Pointe Sainte Anne, as a consequence of this raid some innocent civilians were killed. These civilians were hastily buried in the village cemetery. This cemetery has since been mistakenly identified as an Indian Cemetery when in reality it is an Acadian Cemetery.
Now, we fast forward to 1933 when the cemetery was once again disturbed! This time by a Dr. Wintemberg who came to Point Saint Anne with the expectations of finding pre-historic (First Nation) remains and was surprised to find, buried closely together, and in one case two in one grave, not Indians, but Europeans. In all, seven skeletons were examined. (Two of these remains were those of Anastasie Godin and Madeleine Guilbaut) In no case was there any evidence of Indian (First Nation) at the site. The remains of the two women were removed to Ottawa where they remain today. As Acadian’s and descendants of Anstasie’s family our desire is to have her (their) remains returned to her (their) rightful resting place, Pointe Saint Anne. And the cemetery there properly identified and declared as a National Historical Site.
The Bergeron-Damboise families are planning, in conjunction with The Society of History of the River Saint Jean (SHRSJ) a commemoration of the 250 year anniversary of the destruction of the village. We are calling for all Acadians to rally with us in Fredericton on the weekend of the 18th/19th of July (Saturday and Sunday) 2009. This calling includes all Acadians who are descended from the Godin, Saindon, Pare, Bergeron, St Aubin Families as well as any other family group. Please contact Aline Cormier (alicor@nb.sympatico.ca) or Lawrence Bergeron (larrybergeron@earthlink.net) for further details.

So today my blog was all about events , thank you for the lovely visit, and please think about all these events and reunions, hope to meet some of you at some of the events. Have a great day

Well I had better do my blog, or else I might be in big trouble, everyone keeps saying that they are heading out to read my blog. grin.
Well I have just arrived from a trip that i have wanted to do for a long time. I wanted to go where some of my ancestors were from ,which included, L'Isle Verte, and Kamouraska Quebec.
The photo on the left was taken in a place called le Berceau de Kamouraska, it was here that the first chapel was built and where some of the Kamouraska pioneers were buried and it was also a central place where the people would meet for meetings etc. What I am pointing to on the photo is to the surname Bergeron and there was only one Bergeron listed as being buried there. There were lots of other surnames of my ancestors on the list, LeBel, Bouchard, Michaud,Soucy,Ancelin.
Behind the monument is where the cemetery was located, you can see a tombstone in the background. I plan on creating a page of our trip and add it to my acadian-roots.com website, I will let you know when it is up and running. We took 251 photos along the way, some are good, some are not, but I will add the ones I think will be good. We brought a tent with us , it was our first tenting trip, the last time we went and brought the tent was to Port Royal and we ended taking motels along the way. So it was an experience for us, especially when we were trying to put air in the mattress and the plug was still in it haha.
Changing the subject, I am pleased to have received a newsletter from Maine with a copy of my genealogy poem I had done and a link to my website. Also I am receiving so many emails saying that they love my website at www.acadian-roots.com , so that encourages me to keep on trying to improve it with things the readers will enjoy. Many are saying things such as, I found my grandfather, or I lived in Georgetown, or I enjoy your blogs, or I love your photo gallery and so on.
And to add a footnote to all of this, I want to say, I love what I do, which is first my genealogy and helping others, and working on my website even if it is only to bring a smile to someone out there.
Thank you for the lovely visit, please stop by again when you have time.
Have a great day.

How do you like my cows? Well yesterday I opened my door and there was this big brown envelope from Texas, yes all the way from Texas, my friend Phylis was kind enough to do this, I had looked everywhere for placemats, but could not find them, the placemats are reversible, and look very nice on my table. So thank you Phylis. Now the dancing cow, with the tutu on is hanging on my wall. I went to a second hand store with my friend and there was this painting you see, how much do you want for it ? I asked the lady, oh give me two dollars, wow two dollars ,I'll take it.
Speaking of second hand stores, today we went again to find a metal teapot to take on our camping trip, we found one, so I said let's look at the books, guess what? I found a book called the forgotten soldiers it has stories from acadian veterans of the second world war, so I am thinking of adding some of these stories on my Acadians who went to war page, I will let you know if and when I do.
I have the 1871 census on my page at www.acadian-roots.com , I was thinking of adding it just the way I received it, through Microsoft Excel but I am not sure if everyone will be able to open it or not, so for the time being I will leave it as it is.
Now another one of my members has transcribed some marriages of a parish which I shall tell you about as soon as I have it up on my website, I really appreciate her doing this, I will tell you who she is later also. She will be credited for the information. I just need to convert it to html first.
Now I also received a phone call a short while ago, from a cousin in Maine who has found the baptism of my great great grandmother who was born in Kamourska in 1812, I did not have the information but she was baptized under the name LeBelle instead of LeBel. I told my cousin she was a great detective.grin.
Soon we will be off to Kamouraska Quebec, I do hope the weather will cooperate. We leave on Tuesday morning, will be gone until Thursday or Friday.
So thank you for the lovely visit, do come again.
Have a great day

Hello everyone, it is a beautiful summer day, but it won't last long, rain is forecasts. I have been a bit busy these last few days. I had received an email from a lady saying she had transcribed the entire 1871 census for Dundas Kent County in New Brunswick, which includes Cocagne,Notre Dame, surrounding villages and possibly Grand Digue. She gave me permission to add it on my site at www.acadian-roots.com so I have added it. I do hope it helps some of you find your ancestors. So to Betty, I say thank you for sharing with us.
On another note, I am getting ready to go on my trip to Quebec, we are leaving Tuesday morning, so I have started getting my stuff together, I have my tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, barbque, lamp, already in my car.I have a pump for my air mattress, now we were told that Walmart sells some good mosquito repellent, going to check that out, and buy a little bottle of propane. I have jotted down places to see. Now I just checked my genealogy and my Joseph Bergeron was born in St Andre de Kamouraska and married in Isle Verte so I want to see the two churches. I want to go to the Berceau de Kamouraska too. I have my camera and just in case it gives me a hard time I bought a throw away one, grin. If it rains, one of the campgrounds has little cabins, so it is quite possible we will end up in the cabin if it rains. grin.I will add the trip on my website www.acadian-roots when we get back and if it turns out good. Oh and I found out there are Tim Hortons in Riviere du Loup and Rimouski, grin, and also MacDonalds,Burger King, KFC, haha. and we are suppose to be camping? grin.
So now I am off to look for some utensils, so have a great day. Thanks for the visit, please come again.

Bergeron Reunion, this is a better explanation than I gave, thanks to Larry Bergeron;
This story begins in the late 17th century (about 1698) when Gabriel Godin and his wife, Andree-Angelique JEANNES settled/founded the village of Point Saint Anne. During the following years the village prospered and grew. Then in February 1759 a small force of British Troupes (15 men) led by a Lt Moses Hazen raided and destroyed the Acadian village of Pointe Sainte Anne, (The village was located where downtown Fredericton is now) as a consequence of this raid some innocent civilians were killed. The remains of the two women were then removed to Ottawa where they remain today. As an Acadian and a descendant of Anstasie's family my desire is to have her (their) remains returned to her (their) rightful resting place, Pointe Saint Anne. This calling includes all Acadians who are descended from the Godin, Saindon, Pare, Bergeron, St Aubin Families as well as any other Acadian family group. Please contact, for Canadian, Aline Cormier (alicor@nb.sympatico.ca) or, for USA, Lawrence Bergeron (larrybergeron@earthlink.net) for further details.
Calling all Bergeron dit Damboise and Godins. Hear ye, hear ye ,hear ye, grin.
Ok I am sort of hoping this will reach many folks who have Bergeron,Damboise,or Godin,Bellefontaine ,or anyone descendent from Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise and Genevieve Serreau dit St Aubin, or descendants of Gabriel Godin dit Chatillon and Andree Angelique Jeanne (Jasne). As you know these two families were in Riviere Saint Jean New Brunswick and some of their families were masacred .Anyway Fredericton is holding a commemoration of the anniversary of this episode, and my Bergeron group that I belong too have organized a Bergeron Reunion for the same period, We are having it July 18 and 19th 2009 ,it is going to be held at Wilmot Park, which is across from the old Acadian Church and cemetery location. We are inviting the Godins also since they intermarried with our Bergeron lines. Now the Societe Historique Riviere Saint Jean has asked for an appropriate head count on how many will be attending. So if any of you are coming down for the CMA2009, and would like to add this event to your schedule please email me at ize_o_blue@yahoo.com put Bergeron Reunion in your subject line, I think this will be a fun event and a place to meet new cousins. Here is the letter regarding the SHRSJ request.
Hello CousinsI attempted to send this message this morning but it appears that itdidn't go through!I have been asked by the SHRSJ to come up with a "head count" of thepeople who are planning to attend the Reunion/ Commemoration that isbeing planned for the summer of 2009 in Fredericton. My grandson had a Karate competion last night, and I attended. The children were all sitting in a row, and one by one they had to go up and strut their stuff, first my grandson did his single then the five judges gave him marks, then they were grouped in threes and had to so the same program they did as single. After they were all done, the judges tallied their marks and awarded them medals for their work, my grandson came third place in his single age group, and his group of three program earned them second place, another medal. And finally they were graded, from white belt to a yellow one. Talk about a proud little boy he was, and so was his Memere proud. I was running around like crazy looking for the best spot to take his photo. grin. The photo above is of him in the group in the back. I found this little boy getting his belt so cute and he was so excited that I just had to take his photo too. I am posting more photos in our chat room of the competition.

On another note, my friend Maria, sent me down a box of books and I mean a box. I have not had time to look at all of them, but there is Acadian to Cajun, that one I am very interested in for sure,Eulalie LaTour,Notes on Exile on being Acadian,Acadians peoples of the maritimes.Adieu Pisiquid, and more. So as you can see I have lots to read. I am very grateful to Maria for sending them to me.

I am also planning a trip to Quebec very soon, could be within the next two weeks, I believe I did mention this already, so now it is time for what should I bring, what should I wear, where do I want to visit, where do we want to sleep, things not to forget and so on. I already bought a throw away camera in case my digital acts up, lately I have a hard time taking photos, I need to press real hard on the button before it takes.

Today I went walking with my friend for a change we walked near his house, and towards the lake, the weather was not too hot, just right for a walk, oh and last night after the Karate competition we went dancing, and Gary Donelle was playing the music and I think in one of my blogs I had talked about Acadian Day and we had gone to Cap Pele and Gary was playing and he sang Au bord du Lac Bijou a song by Zacharie Richard, and I loved it so last night we requested it and yes he played it for us. The hall was full and usually he plays english songs, well when he started singing Au bord du Lac Bijou the dance floor was packed. grin. I have received some DVDs of Zacharie Richard from my friend Romm in Louisiana but that song isn't on the DVD, so I am going to look for it and get it.

Well guess this is it for today, I hope you enjoyed my blog, thank you for stopping by , please come again.

Have a great day

Good morning or afternoon, nice to see you again, and nice to meet you if this is your first time .Well this morning I got up bright and early (for a change) and the weather man was calling for rain or showers, I looked out my window , nope not raining yet. Ok Aline, get up , get dressed. So after I got up, washed , I had a light breakfast and out the door I went. I need to beat the rain. I had put on a light jacket just in case. Anyway I began my walk, the temperature was really nice, going around the corner, this man was waving at me, so when I got up to him, I noticed he was an old friend of my late husband, his dog was barking his head off, the dog's name is Pepper. So I walked to the dog, he smelled my hands, that is what I usually do when I approach a dog, I turn my hands palm down and let them smell them. So the man and his lady were just coming home from their cottage and we talked about gardens, then I was on my way again. I took my normal route, except I went one street over to make my walk a bit longer. My route was a square. across, down, across ,up. The up part was rough grin. Passed Pepper the dog again, and yep, he was barking at me again. grin. It felt so good when I got back home. Grin.
On another note, I have been adding some names in my Legacy Family Tree program. But I need to verify the dates and locations. I did part of that last night, I was checking my Boudrot's in Petit Rocher. Found some dates of births, others I haven't found yet. When I started with Legacy, I added my lines and my late husband's lines, so I have two different family lines . But it will be good for my grandchildren to have one day. I sure hope that one of my grandchildren will be interested in their roots. Sometimes we think the girls will be the most probable one to want to know, but sometimes we may be wrong and the boys will be the ones.
I am also searching for information about L'Isle Verte and Kamouraska Quebec, I found an article saying that the route that we want to take is a scenic route, following the water. I would love that route, I enjoy passing little fishing villages , and old buildings etc. We are planning to go either the end of June of the first week of July, I do hope the weather will cooperate because guess what? We are bringing a tent. haha. Last time we took a trip, it was to Cape Breton, I have the trip on my website at www.acadian-roots.com anyway if you read about our trip, you will see the tent stayed in the trunk of my car haha. So no promises about the tent again. But we have the tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, an air pump, need to get some misquito repellent, yep its gonna be fun fun fun . grin. You may see photos of me full of mosquito bites, grin you never know, but if it gets too bad, motels here we come. I need to bring a bunch of batteries for my camera. Now I am getting anxious to go, we have someone who will take care of Thunder, she is very good with him. I checked for campgrounds in Bas Saint Laurent and found some along the way, there is only one is Isle Verte that I found, none right in Kamouraska listed. The reason I want to go to Kamouraska if I can is because this is where some of my maternal ancestors were ,the Michaud, Raymond dit Phocas,Lebel,I noticed names such as Malenfant, Theriault, Alberts too.
Well I hear some Thunderstorms, so will close for now. Thank you for stopping by. Have a nice day.

How many of you have ancestors from the Beaubassin area? I had Thomas Cormier and Marie Madeleine Girouard living in Beaubassin and Thomas was quite properous when he lived there. There was also Jacques Bourgeois who was a surgeon also one of the founders of Beaubassin, Pierre Arseneau was a pilot and he had land in Beaubassin he married twice and they were in the Beaubassin census, him and his second wife that is. There were other families in Beaubassin also. The reason I am talking about Beaubassin is because next month there is going to be a Dig to see if they can find any artifats where Beaubassin was situated. What a great find it would be, to find some china, some old pipes, or tools used by our ancestors , a comb even, or pots n pans. So to all the people who have applied to take part in the dig, happy digging, sure hope you find something.
Well I have added a few more names to my Chartersville Cemetery, and added a few tidbits in Did you know and I have added an obituary of a lady who was 101.
Today was overcast so I did not go walking, I do hope tomorrow will bring a better day. Walking is a great exercise, I do not walk at a fast pace, maybe later on I will be able to do so, but I do know that when I do walk, I can feel the difference , I feel much better.
Well this is not a long blog, so thank you for stopping by, do drop in again.
Have a great day

Hello, nice to see you. Well Saturday I wanted to go to yard sales, I love yard sales, I am always on the lookout for Acadian or Cajun or French Canadian genealogy or history books. And now I am on this kitchen cows hunt. grin. Anyway yesterday George and I decided to go to Albert County, well I really wanted to go so George came too. (He says he doesn't like yard sales but everyone we went to so far he bought something. grin) So yesterday we went to a yard sale in Colpitts Settlement, I had another reason for wanting to go, I have been looking for my half sister for a long long time, I have her narrowed down to two ladies, one is in Ontario and one in Albert County. I have the birth record but on the birth record the name of the mother is the grandmother's name, born the date that I am looking for, and the other lady was suppose to be an adopted daughter ,she has papers to the effect and she would have been born a year too late BUT she resembles me. The other one ,I have spoken to her on the phone, cannot see a photo of her and she sounds like my sister and she denies it. I was sort of hoping I would find the house she is living in, someone told me she may be living at such a such address. And also on the birth records this one in Albert County was christined a different name and uses another first name. What a puzzle this is. But I would so much like to know for sure which one it is. Both parents are gone now so it would not hurt anyone if we knew for sure. The one in Ontario would take a DNA test she had said, but we have sort of lost touch these last few years.
Anyway no luck on finding anything out yesterday, so we continued to the yard sale. The weather was lovely and the sceneries were so beautiful and peaceful in the country. We passed over a little wooden bridge, the water was tricking down a little brook, I wondered if there were lots of trout in the brook.
We finally found the yard sale, and we went in. First thing I asked was for books and cows, well there were no books that I wanted, but she had this cow towel holder, how much? Ok I want it, and then she showed me this big cow that hangs outside, wow talk about nice, how much? Will you take such and such? You will? Ok I will take it. So I now have more cows, and my brother went to a yard sale in Nova Scotia, picked me up something with cows for my wall. grin.
Now changing the subject, I have added more names to my Chartersville Cemetery page. Every once in a while, when I have nothing to do, I add a few names to my cemetery page.
We have more members in my acadianrootsclub genealogy group, that is good. The more that joins the more chance we have of connecting with other cousins sharing our same ancestors.
And I keep adding my P'tit Francois stories and I am translating them , but my translation leaves a lot to be desired, you need to be able to understand chiac to see the stories as they are meant to be seen and read. I have been given permission to add these newspaper clippings from the french paper L'Etoile.
To read them go to my website www.acadian-roots.com click on P'tit Francois.
Thanks for the visit, do come again.
Have a great day

Come walk with me? Well to begin, I have decided I would like to get back in shape, I want to lose a bit of weight, I do not want to lose much but I want to lose. So I have begun walking. Why don't you come walk with me? I am only beginning so I am taking it slowly. The first day that I walked (this is my second week), well let me tell you , I did not go far, I was a huffing and a puffing when I got home. grin.I leave in the early morning, and walk for about a half hour to three quarters of an hour. If you are able to walk, begin by walking around your home, try once, then go around twice the next time, in other words start slowly, this is if you are a senior, if you are younger then start walking around a block. It is good for us to get exercise, it gets us away from our computers where all that gets exercise is our fingers, grin. So to my friends in Scotland and to all my group members who are able and to you who just dropped in, Come walk with me? Today I ventured where no Aline has gone haha, I began walking , instead of cutting corners I walked around them, and when I go to where I usually turn , I kept on going to two streets down, turned and on my way back I took another route and it was uphill. Wow, talk about hard on the legs but I did it. I am only walking once a day for now.
Now if you are unable to walk, see what exercises would be good for you then do them. I know I am feeling good by walking. I walk alone but would love your company.
I told you yesterday I had gone to the genealogy center to do some research and do some lookups? Well it sure was nice just relaxing and looking through documents and records. And this time I did not carry conversation with anyone, Stephen said hello, and I had a quick chat with Regis, we talked about Robertville.
I never get tired of going there. There is so much stuff that I still have not seen, that there must be more on my ancestors to find. I would love to go to Fredericton in the archives one day, I think I would need more than a day grin.
For the ones who have Arsenaults in your families and if you are in the vicinity of Amherst NS in July, there is going to be a reunion with lots of fun stuff, go to www.myacadianhistory.ca and contact Rick.
Well that's it for this time, just to remind you I had added a page on the parish of Sainte Therese in Robertville New Brunwick ,with some photos, marriages and deaths at www.acadian-roots.com click on Parish Records then to Robertville NB.
Thanks for the nice visit, and hope you will come walk with me in the mornings.
Have a great day

Have you ever heard of Robertville New Brunswick in Canada? Well it is a village in Gloucester County, not far from Petit Rocher and Nigadoo. The parish is called Ste-Therese. My grandmother was born there as was her sister. My great great grandmother Marie Vienneau died there. So I went to the genealogy center a few days ago, and looked through a souvenir booklet of Robertville and in the book there were photos of some of the people who lived there. Wow, that was nice to see, there is a photo of a man who was seven feet tall weighed 400 pounds, and his wife is also on the photo. She looks so little next to him. I also extracted some marriages and deaths of Robertville. You can view all of this on my site at http://www.acadian-roots.com/ click on Parish Records and in the drop down menu you will see Robertville NEW NEW. Also if you had ancestors who lived in Petit Rocher and then you lost track of them, check out Robertville they could be there. I also have the song holes in the floor of heaven playing.
So if any of you wondered where I have been, well I have been busy with my website and setting up a forum , where we can post various things. The forum is like my genealogy group,by invite only, but the forum is new and it takes getting used to it , to find one's way around. We still have our little chat n brag room too, there we are like a big family. For the ones who want invites to any of our rooms, please go to my acadian-roots.com site and contact me for an invite.
Thanks for the visit.
Have a great day.

Our Sunday drive today, took us past Shediac in New Brunswick, first a stop to Dairy Queen for an ice cream sunday , then to a yard sale at Pointe Du Chene, her prices were way too high, and then we went to Barachois. I wanted to go to the beach in Barachois, I had gone to a beach in Cap Pele which is not far from Barachois. So we turned down the road ,as we were turning I read the road sign "Pointe au Bouleau Road." Well that name Bouleau sparked some memory . Olivier dit Bouleau Doiron son of Louis dit Louison Doiron and Marie Bonnevie dit Beaumont, once lived in Barachois, could this road have been the area he lived? I was once told there was a road in Barachois named after him. Olivier later died in Bouctouche New Brunswick. So we contined down the road, a sign said Dead End, but we went down anyway. Arriving at the bottom of the road, there were little side roads, with rows of cottages, and a jeep was parked there, a couple and their two dogs were just leaving, so we parked my car and proceeded down to the water. The weather was very nice, I walked to the water below, and reached down, wow the water was cold. brrrr. There was only one couple on the beach today but I bet that in a few weeks the beach will be so crowded there will be no place to sit.
Changing the subject, I have added an article on my Did you know page at www.acadian-roots.com regarding how well to do the Acadians were before the expulsion in 1755.
I added a few more names to my Saint Louis de Kent Marriages also.
If you go to my website and click on the CMA2009 you will see there are lots of families who have registered now . Be sure to see if your Surnames have registered. I notice the Cormier name has been registered, and the Godin, and Saindon, Arsenaults and others.
Like Porky Pig used to say "Thatttt's all ffffolks. grin.
Thank you for stopping by, do come again. Have a great day.

Allons danser Collinda, allons danser Collinda. Just looking at the photo makes me want to dance. Now if you notice the photo, you can see it is a sand sculpture, it was sent to me, and the sculpture was done on Prince Edward Island. Isn't it fantastic. It looks so real. And a typical Acadian setting, music, dancing, and having a good ole time. I noticed our Cajun Cousins also love music, dancing and having a good tyme. I wanted to share this paticular sculpture with you, There were lots more , one of the church, one of a farmer's wife milking a cow, a fisherman, Anne of Green Gables, a tractor, a farm and so on.

Well I have added another photo to my photo gallery at www.acadian-roots.com, it is of Augustin Brideau son of Marcin Brideau and Marie LeBreton, he was born in 1860 and in the photo he is 91 years old and he is skating. If you do go see, click on his photo, to get the full view, I am not experienced with thumbnails yet so I need to learn about the sizes.

I want to end this blog today by sending congratulations to Scotland to my friends ,they are soon to become proud grandparents. I am so pleased for them, since it is their first grandchild. Bravo.

Have a great day everyone thanks for stopping by.

Isn't this a beautiful photo? Does it look familiar to any of you? Well by the look of the car in the photo, it must have been taken in the 1930s or early 1940s and it is the main street in Saint Louis de Kent, in New Brunswick Canada. I am so pleased to have received permission to use this photo and some others to add to my photo gallery at www.acadian-roots.com . If you want to see more photos of Saint Louis go to my gallery and scroll to the bottom until you see Saint Louis Photos, click there and you will see more photos like the one above. I have never lived in Saint Louis but I had a camp there for a few years, and my late brother in law came from there. So I met a lot of nice folks in Saint Louis, I met some Maillets, some Brideaus, some Daigle, and some Proulxs. I have good memories of Saint Louis. That is where I had planted a lovely garden with my sister in law, we worked very hard that summer, we endured mosquitos, rain, wind , horse flies, little black flies in order to succeed with our garden, our peas , they bushes were nice and high and so healthy looking, one day we said, ok tomorrow we will pick the peas, but when we awoke the next day, the crows had cleaned every single bush, not a single pea did we see.

Changing the subject, I have received a CD of the Southwest Louisiana Parish records, and a VHD tape on Acadie Liberte, depicting the expulsion of the Acadians, and Against the Tide by Zacharie Richard, it is his interpretation of Acadie Liberte as seen from the eyes of the Louisiana Acadians, Haunted Waters , covers a lot of Louisiana Cajun life. A friend of mine Don has sent it to me, I appreciate it . I love anything Acadian/Cajun. Since I also have English roots, I am interested in Deptford England and Bristol, and my french canadian roots, I am planning on going to L'Isle Verte in Quebec hopefully this summer. I also would love to go to Castile or Castine Maine, where D'Abbadie de St Castin was, seeing he is also among my ancestors. Next year July 25, I am hoping to make it to Fredericton for our big Bergeron dit Damboise reunion. Time will tell, if I get to go where I want to go. And of course we have the Congres Mondial next year also, I do hope to meet many of my online friends and members of my genealogy group there. For the ones of you just surfing in, if you are interested in Acadian Roots genealogy, meaning if you have some ancestors who were Acadians and you would like to join our genealogy group, contact me through my acadian-roots.com website and I will send you an invite.

Thanks for the lovely visit, do come again. Hope you will enjoy the new photos on my gallery.

Have a great day

Where have I been? You may ask. Well saturday I got up and said to my friend, there is a community yard sale ,it has been on for a few hours, my friend George said ,wanna go? Well he did not have to ask me twice. So off we went to the yard sale, well it was getting late, and it began to rain, but we were lucky , most of the sales were held in their garages. Of course all I could think of were Cows. grin. The second place we stopped, I spotted something all by itself in a corner, yes it was a cow, and it was the cow you see here, a butter dish, well it did not take me long to grab it. And then I found some cow butter spreaders, there is one missing from the set but it is fine. Now George who isn't into yard sales, got himself a television and a set of dishes, he was pleased, I hope he was so pleased that he wants to go again this saturday. grin. If he does come with me, I can direct him where to go, and when we get to the sales, I can get out of the car faster and get to the sale. haha.

Well I have been pretty busy, I added a few more names to my Chartersville Cemetery, added a few photos to my senior pages. And I have been busy trying to fix up my apartment . It is looking pretty nice. Our genealogy group is doing pretty well, newcomers are joining and that is good. Our members are really pitching in to help others, I am very pleased with my members.

Thank you for the visit, and please stop by again.

Have a great day

I always wonder where the saying "Busy as a Bee" came from or Busy as a Beaver. Well I really don't know , but I have been there, busy as can be.grin. Hello everyone, the weather is gorgeous, the trees are blossoming, the flowers are springing up. We are not as early with our flowers as elsewhere tho, I received some photos from Scotland from my friends, they have beautiful flowers, all different kinds, pansy are pretty. There is one tree across from my new home, that looks lke a purple lilac tree but looking closer they are not Lilacs, not sure what kind they are. I have little balcony off of my living room, and I am so tempted to add a little bird feeder there, although I am not sure if the birds would come since the balcony is quite low.
On another note, I am debating on adding something new to my website, I have asked my members of my Chat Room and am now asking members of my genealogy group their opinions on this. It has been created, just not added for now.
I also am doing another cemetery that my friend Maria did for me, she did a great job for her first attempt, there are lots of names to be added. She had sent me the photos but due to spamming I had to remove them, so now I will add the names and whoever will want a copy of the photo of a stone I will send it to them. So that project is being done as we speak. I have added one page out of five or more .
And now we are gearing up for our big Bergeron d'Amboise reunion being held July 25 2009 in Fredericton. Now the ideas are popping up , what to do, what we need, where we will sleep, there will be another celebration at the same time regarding when the english raided Pointe Sainte Anne, and massacred many Acadians and chased them from their homes, so this is going to be a big event. If you have ancestors who lived in Sainte Anne de Pays Bas, then don't miss this event. And if you have Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise and his wife Genevieve Serreau dit Saint Aubin in your lines and are interested in our big Bergeron dit Damboise reunion please let me know ,our Bergeron group at googles will register you. I am very anxious to go, because I am going to meet a new found cousin, (who hasnt registered yet, grin) and her family. There will be lots of stories, and photo taking while we are there.
Also next year is the Acadian Congres Mondial in Caraquet New Brunswick, and I am hoping to meet many members of my acadianrootsclub group .If you want more information about the Congres Mondial go to my website www.acadian-roots.com go towards the bottom of the sidebar and click on Congres Mondial ,there is lots of information ,that is the official CMA 2009 site.
I have mentioned Maria doing a cemetery for me, I cannot forget to mention that Rick and I have a project going also, he has walked through many cemeteries of Cumberland County and taken photos of the stones, which he will be adding on his site and I shall be adding the index on my site. I will add a link going to Rick's site on my index pages so you will have an easy time to navigate between both sites.
And Effie has sent me a cemetery book , that I really appreciate, from her book I can verify some dates and it is going to benefit me in helping others. so to Maria,Rick and Effie thank you, I am also receiving some stuff from Paul and from Don, so thank you both. As you can see , I have a great group of members in my acadianrootsclub, for genealogy, and also Paul LeBlanc has an acadian group on rootsweb to which I belong also. I am trying not to forget anyone. grin.
So, I know understand what "Busy as a Bee means" grin. Thanks for the lovely visit, do drop in again. Have a great day.

Did you all think I had forgotten you? Nope, not at all. I have been quite busy lately. If you go to my website www.acadian-roots.com you will notice new pages, I have added partial lists of two cemeteries in Maine, one in Sandford Maine and one in Waterville Maine. Many French Canadians and possibly Acadians went to the United States in search of jobs, new factories were opening and the jobs were plentiful, so I have extracted some Acadian Surnames buried in both cemeteries, now these people were probably descendants of some Acadians who fled into Quebec during the time of the deportation of the Acadians. So I am hoping that these names will help some of you, now there were some french names such as Veilleux, LaJeunesse, St-Cyr etc who married in the Acadian Surnames such as Boudreau, Landry, Cormier etc.
Also one of my members lost his father a few days ago, Rick is the owner of myacadianhistory.ca site , and he has cemeterie tombstone photos of Nova Scotia, and is adding more to his site, which I in turn will add the index of names on my site with his permission. So I have made him a sympathy card and it is also on my website, so if any of you know Rick , please sign his sympathy card, to let him know we care and offer our condolences to him.
More members have joined our acadianrootsclub, and we are trying our best to help them as much as we can, if you just surfed in and want to come join us, go to my website acadian-roots and send me a message via the url that is posted there.
I am still getting settled in my new place, I have lots more to do before I am done, I will need to repack everything and put them in order here, I just threw everything here and there, now I need to find them and put them in the correct places. So now you can understand why I have not been posting my blog, it will be better soon.
Thanks for the visit, do come again.
Have a great day

Cows are out, sheep are in, that's what I was told when I began my kitchen cow hunt, grin. Well I posted on some classified ads for kitchen cow stuff, so last saturday I got a reply someone had some placemats, I asked where, she replied I am at the flea market. So Sunday morning bright and early off we went to the flea market, now I never looked anywhere else, went right up to her table, she had three placemats, but I was not too impressed, but bought them anyway, I won't be using them on my table. Will keep looking, but I walked around the market, and lo and behold I found other cow stuff, I got a sugar ,creamer, toothpick holder, cookie jar. Someone else phoned me she had a clock, so I have that too. So I am going to continue looking for cow placemats and other stuff that would be nice in my kitchen, cow magnets would be nice on the fridge.I am not sure if they made cow cannister sets or not, will keep my eyes open for them also.
Well I just finished another page for my website but have not added it, I am looking for a CD that someone sent me to add what is on the CD to another page so that I can connect them, do you think I can find that CD? nope, still lots of stuff not unpacked yet.
Now that I have redone my photo gallery, I need some old photos of acadian or cajun or french canadian ancestors, be them mine or yours, so if you want to share some of your old ancestors, leave a comment or go to my acadian-roots website and send me a message. A lady had sent me a lot of them ,I had to remove my other gallery so I lost all her photos, I think it is nice to look at old photos just in case someone connects to our lines and we can share photos with one another.
Our group is growing every day, more have joined us, everyone seems very satisfied with our group, they all see how we are all helping each other out. We are as I said before like one big happy family.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you will come again.
Have a great day.

Have you every lived in Moncton New Brunswick in Canada? This is where I was born and I believe I had posted some photos way back at the beginning of my blogs of Main Street in the 60s. Well about a week ago, I received an email from a friend that I correspond with. Our friendship began through her looking at my acadian-roots.com website, and through me knowing her brother who told me she was also into genealogy. We found out we have ancestors in common. Anyway, last week she sent me some photos taken in 1950s of Moncton , taken from the air with a list of the buildings , so I have added these awesome photos on my Moncton page at www.acadian-roots.com , I know the ones of you who live or have lived in Moncton are going to really enjoy seeing the buildings taken by a pilot named Mr. Cunningham .I recognized the Moncton Cathedral in the photo, that is where my grandparents married, and where I was baptized. I do hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did.
I am still working on another page on my website, I will let you know when it is up and running and what is it about. My genealogy group is growing everyday, so if you just surfed in and interested in your acadian/cajun/french canadian roots, go to my site mentioned above and send me an email for an invite from there. As my group is by invite only.
Now I am going to add something here, that you may find funny or odd for me to do. grin. I am looking for Kitchen Cows for my kitchen, need to know if there are any places in Canada that sells Cow Placemats, Cow Stove burner covers, Cow Cannister sets, or anything for the kitchen with cows. I have the soap holder, I have cookie jars, I have a plate and stand. I tried to find Cow stuff here in Moncton, none to be found. I know Cows are out and Sheep are in, But I want cows grin. I know in Florida they sell Cow stuff, but I tried to order and cannot do so.
Leave me a comment if you know where I can find these things, unless I start yard saling and hope to find some there.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all you mothers, grandmothers, greatgrandmothers. Today I would like to share something with you. My mother. My mother turned 90 years old. Yesterday we had an open house for her. On the top photo you can see her reading a congratulations from our governor general of Canada. She also received a certificate from Honorable Mr. Chiasson of New Brunswick. The open house went great. Lots of friends, lots of family members came. We took many photos, Mom was so pleased to see so many attend.
Now the photo at the bottom , is something I want to share with you. If you read my past blogs, you will see that I had told you about the movie that I stumbled upon at the University of Moncton, thanks to Regis Brun and Ronnie Gilles LeBlanc. This movie which my Mom later identified the people in it was from an old movie camera, and after we found out who was on the movie, Ronnie Gilles and Regis made us a copy to a DVD. When I had approached Mom, telling her about this movie, she blurted out that they were the only ones with a cow and the cow would come to their bedroom window and Moo, and Mom said you would swear the cow was saying EdMOONDDDDDDDDDD, which was my Dad's name, and Dad would say she's calling me, time to get up. Well yesterday at the party, my brother played the movie for everyone to see on his television, and I decided to try and take a photo, and if you look at the photo on the upper left, that beautiful lady standing there is My MOM, she was around 15 or maybe 16 years old. Wasn't she beautiful? And can you imagine, I see her walking and moving on the DVD? This DVD to me is worth more than all the money in the world.
I wanted to share this with all of you. You never ever know what you will find when you are into genealogy, or family trees, just keep digging and keep looking, I sure hope you will come across something special as I did.
Have a great day everyone, thanks for the visit.

Well the grass is getting green, some flowers are popping through the ground, the buds are starting to come out on the trees. My Mom who will be 90 next week, just returned from the United States, she said all the lilac trees were in bloom. They are not in bloom here yet, I love the smell of lilacs. A lady from Ontario told me she has started her garden. I love a garden, but the only problem with my gardens when I made them , I could not tell a weed from the plant. grin. Planting a garden is hard work, I remember planting a small one right in the city, in my back yard. I had lots of energy back then, and I had planted these Jumbo Jim tomato plants, they were gorgeous, and healthy, I had dug the garden with a shovel, it was some job, and then I got a load of manure, phew and spread it into my soil. My son looked out the door and said to me,"Mom I'm not eating anything from THERE." He was around twelve years of age. But the tomatoes were delicious.Oh and the first time I planted a garden, I was cleaning around my new baby plants and didn't I see a white worm, I think it is a grub or slug, anyway, you should have seen Aline run. Yep, I got scared. grin. Then I did not want to touch those things, so I would pick them up with a stick or shovel and toss them out of the garden. I sure was brave huh? smile.
Well I added another little tidbit in my tragedy page on my site at acadian-roots,
I need to add more from the Chartersville Cemetery (Notre Dame du Calvaire) in Dieppe NB to my site. I just moved and at the moment , not sure what box has the cemetery book. I have also opened a new group in Yahoo called La Petite Acadienne, this group is only going to be another door to get into our acadianrootsclub group which is doing so well. If a person surfs the yahoo groups and come across ours, they cannot join, and it has no way of contacting us TO join, so I created this new group only to have others know where to go to join us. So to all my members of our acadianrootsclub group don't go join there, as I said it will only be to let others know about our great group.
Sunday we went to Fredericton, I was hoping to see a Placque on a tree in the old Acadian Cemetery, we looked on many trees, and inquired , no one knew anything about it. I also checked out Wilmot Park where our Bergeron dit Damboise and Godin reunion will be held next year. It is quite a large park, and near everything. I was impressed. Anyway I emailed a lady yesterday regarding the placque and she told me, it was just a temporary carton one, because Stephane Bergeron was in Fredericton and he descends from the same Bergeron ancestor so the placque is not there anymore. So I was a bit dissappointed. Someone in my Bergeron group talked about some kind of monument, honoring the first familes or Pointe Sainte Anne which would include the Godin, Bergeron, Roy, etc . I think that would be a very nice idea.
If any of you are interested in our Reunion to be held in July 2009 let me know. If you have descend from the Bergeron or Godin lines, it doesnt have to be your paternal line, it can be your maternal lines too, mine is on my maternal line, you qualify.
Thank you for stopping by
Have a great day

Flooding in New Brunswick Canada. Yesterday we decided to go for a drive to Fredericton (the capital of New Brunswick. I wanted to go find the area where the Acadian Church and Cemetery used to be. Next year is our Bergeron dit Damboise reunion to be held in Wilmot Park weather permitting. We took the Coles Island Road to go, it used to be a shorter road, anyway the photo of the trailers and the canoe, was taken on the Cole's Island Road. I couldn't believe that so much damage was done. The couple in the canoe lived across from the trailer park.
Continuing our drive, we passed through lots of places where the water level was high, I took photos from the car. We finally arrived in Fredericton and found Wilmot Park, and the lieutenant governor's home which is located on the land where the church was. We looked for a placque that was suppose to be there with the names of some of my ancestors but could not find it. But the park is going to be great for our reunion in July 2009, we are including the Godin descendants also. On our way home we decided to take the long way, through Minto, to Hartcourt then home. We stopped for gas and I mentioned the flooding, the store employee told us that down the road the road was closed, it was a ten minutes drive. Off we went, me with my camera and came across the area he was talking about, these are the photos above. The place was called Riverside Corner. Well there was no way anyone could go through there. Then my friend told me it could happen that the water could cause sinkholes , meaning the water would erode under the pavement and cause the road to sink.
We continued driving along the road going towards Minto, we got to another place that the water was covered, this time we could see the yellow road divider below the water.George said, we can make it. Well! I was not too impressed, after him telling me about the sinkholes. I said No Way Hosay!, we turned around and noticed a jeep heading for the crossing, so George turned the car and said we will follow him. Gulp! As we were driving through all you could see was water splashing against my car. Once we crossed George said, you should have taken a photo of us crossing. I replied" Take a photo???? I was holding on for dear life, the photo was the last thing on my mind." grin. They announced on the news that the water was receeding in Fredericton but was making its way down towards Saint John, many had to be evacuated ,some roads were closed.
On another note, I know some of you who are reading my blog are newcomers, so thank you for the visit. To you I would like to say, you are probably into genealogy and stumbled upon my site, well if you are interested in genealogy or family trees and need help, or if you just want to come join others who have the same interests as you do, we have a great group, we are over 400 members and growing everyday. Now just to let you know, we sometimes get off the genealogy subject but you can be sure we get right back on it again, I have been into genealogy since 1976, been to the centre d'etude many times, I know Stephen White but will not use him to get members, he has helped me help others lots of times, he is a great person but do not join our group because I know Mister White, I only know him from the center. Join our group because you need help, or want to to help . Many of our members including myself have Stephen White's DGFA books and we can help you. Many of our members live various places and are also willing to help. So all you Acadians, Cajuns, French Canadians come join us, new blood is good for a group, it sometimes helps others find their ancestors too. So go to www.acadian-roots.com
click on our group in the left sidebar and send me an email, I will then invite you, and to help you along, register with yahoo, it is free and it will be easier to join .
Thanks for listening, thanks for the lovely visit. Have a great day

Saint Paul de Kent is a small village in Kent County. Many of my maternal ancestors settled there. Yesterday there was an article in L'etoile,(our french newspaper) so I thought I would share it with you, although it doesn't include my ancestors. The title of the article is Saint Paul and its founder L'Abbe Georges Antoine Belcourt.written by Lucie Gosselin and Karina Langis.
Translated by me to the best of my ability.
After having visited many countries arriving at Saint Paul de Kent, I asked myself who had uncovered this splendid place. When discussing this with friends, they talked about l'Abbe George Antoine Belcourt. On this subject I devoured all the articles written by George Arsenault in the Societe Historique Acadienne .(SHA). I realized that the first settlers of the parish of Saint Paul de Kent came from the parish of Rustico in Prince Edward Island.
Taking into consideration the poverty of the people of this parish, this good abbe Belcourt sent some young couples from his parish to colonize the parish of Saint Alexis of Matapedia and the parish of Saint Paul de Kent in New Brunswick ,Canada. It is him who encouraged Mgr Sweeney to buy the lands so that the Acadians could cultivate them. At this time it was a great feat.
Further reading on the subject, I realized that thanks to a man named Olivier LeBlanc of Sainte Marie de Kent, ancestor of the provincial deputy Bertin LeBlanc ,that these Acadians successfully settled in the new parish. Young Olivier who had just built a new church of Mont Carmel in Sainte Marie with the means of a frolic would also have created frolics from 6 am to 6 pm to build the new homes for the new settlers. My grandmother had already told me that this Olivier had encouraged the women to knit and sew the clothes and blankets to fill up the new couples trousseaus because they arrived in Saint Paul deprived of all they owned. It was quite an opperation. Olivier did the impossible my grandmother told me when she visited me in Saint Paul. This same abbe Belcourt had even gathered money to buy farming tools for the parish of Saint Paul de Kent. We don't know if he tried to organize a bank like those in Rustico ,we know he left a box of books at the home of Anselme Girouard (the father of deputy Gilbert A Girouard nephew of Olivier LeBlanc). These books were sent by the historian Rameaux de Saint-Pere.
But sad to say, these books ended in the church and would have burned in the fire of 1955. In Rustico he founded l'Institut du savoir. Mister Rameaux de Saint Pere had obtained gifts? (des dons) from Napoleon 111 the emporor of France for Saint Paul. The bust of Napoleon is in Memramcook. I don't know if abbe Belcourt left a known heritage in Saint Paul. In Sainte Marie de Kent, he left as heritage the passion of Astronomy. According to some cousins, this passion may have possibly favored the creation of the Astronomy Observation founded by an ancient parishioner of Sainte Marie de Kent at the Moncton University .I ask myself if this abbe Belcourt would be the one who left the music and singing passion. While listening to the folks of St Alexis, I hear the same exceptional talent also in Saint Paul. Ah will the soft ,and beautiful voices of the St Paul choir make the honor roll one day?
Now to add a bit more about Saint Paul de Kent in New Brunswick. Some of you may not know it was once called Bishops Land (terre de l'eveque). Joseph Bergeron dit Damboise was one of the early settlers, he came from Iles Verte in Quebec with his wife and two sons Ferdinand and Antoine. Ferdinand was born in Van Buren Maine, so his parents Joseph and Adeline travelled from place to place to find work and a better life. They were in Saint Basile for a while also where Joseph worked for the church. They were on Prince Edward Island for a while, where I believe one of their sons Joseph and a daughter died. So possibly from PEI they heard about the new land in Saint Paul and decided to settle there. I read that before the church was built many masses were held at the home of Joseph and his wife Adelina. The church bell is named partly after Joseph Bergeron dit Damboise.Quite an honor I would say.
In Saint Paul at present , you will find an apple orchard, it is still there and was planted from seed by my great grandmother Domithile Williams dit Bristol. My Mom told me that Domithilde never lived to see them bear fruit, she died in 1929. I have since gone to the apple orchard and walked through it, thinking to myself" I am here walking where my great grandmother once walked, touching the apple trees she planted, I will tell you, it was a very touching and good feeling for me. Because I am sure she was there, I am sure she walked among the little apple trees, she dug the soil and planted in this spot that I stood in.
I do hope you enjoyed my blog,it had been a while since I last wrote. I have moved to another place , and it took up a lot of my time but I am back.
Thanks for the visit. Have a great day
