Hurricanes can sometimes be devastating. So I decided to begin my blog to say that I do hope all you folks in the path of the latest hurricane will be safe and that the hurricane will miss you. I have met a lot of friends from Louisiana, and I am praying they will all be safe and minimun damages done. My friend Paul sent me an article, and I want to post part of it here. I would suggest you try these phone numbers now to make sure they are not out of date.

• FOR EMERGENCIES, CALL 911 IN ALLAREAS •

We will all be keeping our eye on the track of the hurricane and I know we will all keep you in our prayers. Stay safe, stay well.
On another note, yesterday , we went and met another one of my genealogy and chat member. When we met, it was as if we knew each other all our lives, I felt so comfortable chatting with her. This really makes me want to attend the CMA2009 even more, because there are so many that I want to meet. And northern New Brunswick will be something to see. I want to try and attend the Acadian Day on August 15th, it will be a really big event next year. And I want to attend some family reunions also, the Legers,Cormiers, either Breau or Boudreau are others I want to try and get to. And we are having our big Bergeron-Damboise reunion in July in Frederiction and the plans are coming along great. We have new members who have registered these last few days. So there will be no rest for us next year with all these reunions. grin.
Now guess what I am cooking? Yesterday I went and did my grocery shopping. Oh I will pick up some pork, and some bacon. I have some potatoes home. Why did I decide to buy these things? Well bright and early this morning I got up and washed my hands, and made a rappee Pie or Chiard to some folks and it is now in the oven, nearly finished. I can smell the rappee now. mmmmmm.
Have a great day everyone, thanks for the visit. (try your hand at making a rappee, you will love it).

Work, work work, a woman's work is never done. Now many of you must remember washers like the one on the photo. I remember, Mom had one of those, and she used to take two chairs put them facing each other and sit a galvanized tub on them , fill the tub with water and then she would take the washed clothes from the washer, pass them through the wringers at the top and the clothes would drop in the tub. Then she would rinse the clothes by hand and them pass them again through the wringer to take the excess water out of them. Then she hung them on her clothesline. This was still much better, than our ancestors who carried their laundry to a stream to wash them, or on a scrub board.
So when it was our turn to be doing our laundry, out came the automatic washers, and automatic dryers, we were luckier than our parents with their wringer washers, I wonder what the future holds, will there be another invention that will again be easier to do our laundry with? Time will tell.
On another note, someone who is very important to many readers has been found, yep, he had gone to the Acadian Festival as I had thought. But P'tit Francois des Bois is back at home au Fond de La Baie. You can read all about him at http://www.acadian-roots.com/ ,Welcome back P'tit Francois, we missed you.
And speaking of the Acadian Festival, I have made my appearance in the L'Etoile French Paper this week, I am in the photo of Memramcook Acadian Day , I am sitting with George at the front .Had I known, I would have snuck to the back, grin.
Well that's it for today, thanks for the lovely visit, do drop in again.
Have a great day

P'tit Francois des bois has been found. Well as you know I have an article from the Etoile french newspaper of P'tit Francois des bois that I add to my acadian-roots website each week. Well the last few weeks there were no articles in the paper but you can feel at ease , I contacted L'Etoile and it seems that P'tit Francois went for a vacation, he sure must have needed it , with all that he has been going through with the two widows, and his cat Pouti. But he will return and when he does I will add the articles on my P'tit Francois page.
On another note, I have finished my page about my trip to Memramcook New Brunswick for the Acadian Day Celebrations. I have posted many photos, I do hope you enjoy the page. Go to http://www.acadian-roots.com/ click on Acadian Day 2008.
Our genealogy group is doing very well, many new members have joined us , and more to come I hope. Some are coming through my yahoo website Petite Acadienne and being invited from there.
Our chit chat room is pretty nice too. We are one big family there.
I am still looking for more folks who descend from Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise and Genevieve Serreau dit St Aubin , and the families who married into them, such as the Godin dit Bellefontaines, the Roys, the Pares etc. I would like to see more of the Godin also. Why? you might ask! Well next year 2009 in July we are having a reunion in Fredericton New Brunswick to honor our ancestors who were in Fredericton (St Anne des Pays Bas). Gabriel Godin dit Bellefontaine and Barthelemy Bergeron dit Damboise were founders of Sainte Anne des Pays Bas (Fredericton. )So what better way to honor them ,than to hold a reunion and meet their many descendants from all over .So if you plan on coming to the CMA2009 and you are in the vicinity of Fredericton on July 18/19 why don't you come meet everyone? For further information you can go to bergeron-damboise@googlegroups.com , or contact me. Also if anyone of you who live in Fredericton and know of someone who has a Hall preferably not far from the Wilmot Park and who would let us use it for two days please contact me or the group. We are planning for 100 to 150 people but that number could grow seeing as we have nearly a year to go.
And be sure to reserve your accomodations for the reunions, be it ours or the CMA2009.
Thanks for the lovely visit, do drop by again.
Have a great day.

Acadian Day Celebrations went very well in Memramcook yesterday August 15 2008. We thought we would be having rain, so we prepared for it, umbrellas, rain bonnets, grin but lo and behold the sun came out shining for us all day long, it must have been our ancestors up above shining down . The crowd was a little slow at first but soon the field was full. I took a lot of photos, and will soon let you know when and where you can see them. The three bands were very good. And everyone was having a great time. I enjoyed watching the little children, running and playing and all dressed in Acadian colors, waving flags, it was something to see. There was this little girl, she was not far from us, and the band was playing and that little girl kept swaying to the music in a world all her own. And there was this other little girl she was maybe two or three years old, and she was on her mom's lap and she was blowing this horn. She was right next to me, and each time she would blow that horn I pretended like I was scared and she would burst out laughing, she did this three or four times in a row. We had some acadian dishes, I had some rappee pie and my friend had fish cakes, they were ok, but my rappee pie is much better. smile. The Tintamarre was a big success. I stood at the church in Memramcook and took photos from there as they were walking towards me, I don't want to give out too much information on the tintamarre parade just yet, I want to be able to show you the photos explaining as I go. So I am going to create another page on my acadian-roots.com site and will let you know when it is done.
The masters of ceremonies did an excellent job, and one of them gave me a list of the dignataries who spoke, so I will be able to tell everyone about them.
Oh and I went into the Lefebvre building and guess what I saw?? Books! Genealogy Books !. they had some on sale so I bought two of them, Le grand Peticodiac a Mi Siecle , Histoire des Trois-Rivieres volume four part one and part two by Paul Surette.
Pretty soon I will need my own library room grin, thanks to everyone who sent me books, such as Maria,Paul,William Gerrior .
On another note I am not sure where P'tit Francois is, I have written to him and also to the Etoile Paper asking where his weekly article is. Last week and this week there were no P'tit Francois des bois in the paper, that would be a shame if it was discontinued, I am certain there are many who would be dissappointed, I will let you know if I receive any news.
So thank you for the lovely visit, do drop by again.
Have a great day

ACADIAN DAY will soon be here, on friday august 15th there will be celebrations everywhere.
The photo above was taken in Cap Pele ,I could not resist taking the photo. As you can see even the children take part in the celebrations. So where ever you are, do something to celebrate, even if it is just going around the block with an acadian flag or having some decorations around your home. There will be Tintarmarres or parades ,usually held around 6pm with people marching to the sound of pots n pans and whistles and horns, some will be dressed in blues whites yellow and reds, some with be carrying acadian flags.
Then there will be music, lots of it, with people joining in the songs and clapping their hands and stomping their feet to the beat. It is a great event, and it is growing every year, more and more people are participating. They celebrate far and wide ,from New Brunswick, to Nova Scotia,to PEI, to Louisiana and other places that I am sure I do not know about.
I am in New Brunswick, and we are having celebrations all over. I have attended one at Le Pays de la Sagouine in Bouctouche, it was a very successful event, I have attended one in Dieppe , it too was a great success, both places had so many people it was heartwarming to see so many Acadians at one place and at the same time. Now this year we have decided to go to Memramcook, for their celebrations, I hear they are going to have some Acadian dishes, mmmm I sure hope one of them will be Poutine Rapees. They will be holding a Mass first of all , then music , then food, then music again, I intend on taking my camera and taking lots of photos, then we are not sure where we will end, maybe we will finish the evening at the Dieppe celebrations. Nevertheless it will be a memorable day. What will you be doing to celebrate that day? I wonder!. No matter how you celebrate , I just want to say Have a great time, Happy Acadian Day.
Et a tous les Acadiens et Acadiennes, je vous souhaites beaucoup de fun a la fetes Acadien vendredi prochain.
Have a great day

Petite Acadienne ,I thought the name was fitting even tho I am not 100 percent acadienne, I have english ,and I have some native american blood mixed in with my acadian blood. Why am I talking about petite acadienne? Well let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, I decided to create a genealogy group for Acadians at first, seeing there were not very many acadian genealogy sites online, well not that I could find anyway. So I created acadianrootsclub group in yahoo. And I also had a website on geocities and I decided to create my own website with the help of others since I did not know HTML from THML grin but finally I got the hang of it and I am very proud of my acadian-roots website. I went into my geocities website not long ago, boy what a difference from my acadian-roots one, I have improved a lot. grin. Getting back to my story. My acadianroots genealogy group grew, I included cajuns because in my heart all Cajuns are Acadians and since I have many cajun members in my group and in my chat group also, I find we are so alike, our ways, our customs, our likes and dislikes, it is amazing that after so many generations apart we still have many same customs. Then I have french canadian blood in me also, so I wanted to include French Canadians in my group. Now it gets interesting haha, as my member numbers grew so did the spamming and so did the message board begin having messages I did not want there. Now I am a person who sometimes acts on impulse, meaning I do not think ,I just do so to avoid more problems that would discredit my group I decided to make it a private group by invite only, my group now contains 450 members or a few more and many were by invite only. But since I made my group private it is not seen by yahoo surfers, which it sort of dissappointing so I did the next best thing, I created a bus stop where I go pick up acadianrootsclub wanna be passengers. But before they can board my bus they need to tell me a bit about themselves, I also check the profiles if they are new profiles with nothing on them, they need to make sure that they are legitimate before boarding the second bus. So where is this bus stop? I am nearly finished my story, before I finish I do hope some of you just surfing in will be at the bus stop soon for an invite to my genealogy group, and to also add, I am very proud of genealogygroup members, they are very helpful if and when possible, sometimes brick walls are hard to tumble but other times they fall right down. The Bus Stop to go for a ride is called ,"yep" "Petite Acadienne" the url is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/petiteacadienne/
So stop on by and wait for the bus driver to pick you up. but seriously I do hope you got my message within this blog.
Now on another note, I am working hard for our Bergeron-Damboise Reunion to be held July18/19 2009 in Fredericton New Brunswick, now what am I doing for that? Well I have written to several places to find information to help our reunion, and we are quite a few already registered to attend, some are coming from Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota, New Hampshire, possible Maine and Mass etc, and from parts of Canada. Things are looking better every day, this reunion includes the surnames that married into this Bergeron -Damboise ancestor, Roys, Pare,Godin dit Bellefontaine etc. We have a group on googles where we discuss and plan .bergeron-damboise@googlegroups.com and there are many of you who are not in yahoo nor googles groups so I created a group in MSN also for the Bergeron-Damboise reunion so you will have different places to join and we combine the two groups meaning the group in MSN is also connected to the group in googles, our group in googles has also formed a Bergeron-Damboise Association if you are interested go to the googles group. The following is the url to the Bergeron-Damboise group in MSN http://groups.msn.com/BergeronditDamboise

So as you can see I am keeping myself pretty busy lately. Now that I have talked your ears off I am off to take a break and guess where I am going? Tim Hortons
Coffee Shop (here I come). grin. Thanks for the visit I do hope you will join one of the above groups, have a great day.

Centre D'etude Acadien is where I go when I want to do my research and where I go to relax. I went there yesterday, and it felt so good sitting at the microfilm machine. When I arrived , I looked for an article first of all, could not find it, but I was looking at the wrong place, so next time I go, I shall know where exactly to look. So what did I do next? Well I decided to look for tidbits in the newspaper, and I am going to add them here. I am also translating them from French to English.
In Memramcook in 1920 found the following tidbits;
Mister Albert Doiron who was visiting here since a few days ago has returned to the USA last week.
Miss Agathe Devarennes teacher here left last week to spend Christmas with her parents in Bonsecours. (St Paul)
Miss Yvonne Landry and Jimmy Dupuis were in Moncton Christmas Day visiting Alfred Dupuis.
Mister Theotime Dupuis had to lose an ear last week, maybe next time he will be more careful.
Jean L Melanson and Willie Dupuis's stores are now closed.
Adamsville New Brunswick 1920.
We regret to hear that the health of Mrs Clovis Meunier of St Sosime is not very good, we hope she gets better soon.
Last week Calixte Arsenault of Egmont Bay PEI was visiting his father in law Jerome Arsenault.
Miss Beatrice Henri, Josephine Arsenault,Imelda Arsenault, and Freda Gallant have returned to the Saint Louis Convent.
Waltham Mass.USA 1920
Mrs Domitile Doucet nee Bourque wife of the late Guillaume Doucet died Age 57, she was born in Cap Pele and lived for around the last 30 years in Waltham.
Gardner Mass.USA 1920.
Help ,Help here we are snow up to neck and it keeps on snowing. This is causing lots of damage to our commerce and we are all waiting for spring with great anxiety. We have lots of sick people and sometimes some pass away even if we have great doctors. In the last days of January Mrs Jacques Gallant died ,funeral was help yesterday and the church was packed full. She was the daughter of Octave P.LeBlanc of Bouctouche.
Now to end these little tidbits , just to let you know or make you remember, when we were going to school way back when. grin. many of us caught head lice. Here is what was in the paper
POUX (head lice)
Mothers of families, do not leave your children with head lice, SABA destroys them with one application. Saba Co hp Montreal. grin. I remember I had long thick hair and Mom would remove the knits and lice and wash my hair with TAR Soap, do you remember? smile.
Now my head is getting itchy haha, thanks for the lovely visit, do drop in again
Have a great day.

Old photos are something to treasure, old photos are something to share with others. The reason that I have started my blog this way is because as you know I have a photo gallery on my website at www.acadian-roots.com and some of my genealogy members have given me permission to add some of their old and special photos to my gallery. So if you have the time, drop in and check out the latest photos, I have added some LeBlanc, some Cormiers, some Vienneaus,Saulnier,Gray,Allains. As I told my members, it is good to post their old photos in hopes that others who share the same ancestors can see and copy them for their own use. I know that if I were to go to a site where there were old photos of some of my ancestors I would be so very grateful to be able to have a copy of them. And I sort of am hoping that one day I will see some of my Williams dit Bristols, Meunier,Boudreau,Cormier even Bergeron ancestors .
I have also added a bit more on my Beaubassin Dig, and I have more photos to add, one of my members Rick dropped in to bring me some articles and photos that he took of the dig ,I am pleased that he did so. I believe that this Archaelogy dig is a great thing, to try and learn about our ancestors way of living and finding artifats along the way. Rick's nephew I believe found a shoe buckle, it is sqare, and it could have come from either the english or the acadians, it will be nice to find out later on. I wrote to the Amherst Daily newspaper for permission to leave an article that was posted in their paper on my page, so if they do not give me permission, then I will remove it . I do hope they do give me permission to leave it .
Getting back to the old photos, if you have any old photos back in the early 1900s and you would like to share them with others, please contact me or add a comment at the bottom of this blog. Now to end my blog for today, I would like to share something with you. My son and his family got themselves a new dog last october his name is Buddy and he is a hound dog, the ones who howl. Anyway we went over to visit a few days ago, and Buddy was excited to see me, and he didn't like George's hat so he growled at George until he took off his hat, I had taken off my sneakers not to dirty my daughter in law's floors, and when it came time to leave I picked up one of my sneakers to put it on, and Buddy came running about 90miles an hours across the floor, stole my other sneaker and ran for the hills, haha. My son had to chase him to get my sneaker away from him. My grandson had told me a few minutes before that Buddy could do tricks, I think this was one of them haha. Thanks for the lovely visit, please stop by again.
Have a great day
