What are Ancestors ? This word is heard all the time. Well for the ones who haven’t got a clue about Ancestors, I will tell you what I know. For as long as I have been doing genealogy or family trees, that word Ancestors has been mentioned over and over again. I found out that Ancestors were people, just like you and I. They lived, they loved, they laughed and they cried. And if it were not for Ancestors you and I would not be around . Ancestors are our grandparents ,their grandparents and great grandparents and it goes on and on. Many of us want to go back and find out as much as we can and as many Ancestors as we can. The more we find ,the further we want to continue going. I am such a person. At the moment I am concentrating on another one of my lines, my English line. Many of you remember I told you I was doing my Chate dit Chase line . Well I am still at it, I have since found three more siblings of my first Chate to come to Canada. And I found that the three new ones were born where the parents married in St Giles Camberwell England. Can you imagine the excitement when I came across these ? I am not hoping to find out what happened to them. Now I keep looking for all that I can find and I have a Chate who married a Jackson and I was curious to find out more, well I found they married in Balcombe Sussex England and I even saw an image of the church they married in, but the church has since been renovated. Then I found the Jackson lady’s father and grandfather and they came from Ardingly Sussex England. I saw a photo of the village back in 1905 but these folks lived there in the 1700s so the village must have changed somewhat. But it is exciting to have a story and not just names ,dates,and places. I want to know more about my English Roots. I am reading about the Poor Laws in England, and hope to find some kind of document mentioning the names of some of my ancestors. I also have some French Canadian Roots , and there are still branches of my tree to fill in. I would suggest to you readers ,if you are bored and want to tackle a new adventure, start tracing your family tree, find your Ancestors, then you will be contented knowing who you really are.

A dog never forgets

There is a saying that a dog never forgets, and we really believe this to be true. Today we went to visit our dog Thunder whom we haven't seen in at least two years. We had to give him to a good home because of health reasons. Anyway we had tried to see him a few times but the owners were away. So today thinking they would be away again was sort of dissappointing but we took a chance anyway. Driving up the old country dirt road, we arrived at the end of the road where there was a trailer there. We turned in the yard and there was a vehicle in the yard. I got out of the car and asked the lady who was hanging her clothes to dry on the line if they still had Thunder. Why yes! she replied. I said we were his former owners, she was very nice and invted us in. Thinking Thunder would not recognize us, we went in, but we were very wrong. Thunder ran to me and to my friend. Dog kisses were flying let me tell you. Then Thunder laid on his back for me to rub his belly, something I used to do. It was a very nice visit, and when we got ready to leave,Thunder figured " I'm going to" but they brought him in for a treat and we were on our way.We felt very good when we left because now we know Thunder is in a happy home, he can run and play where the traffic is nil, he can go into the woods if he wants to and he has a new playmate called Lightning, another corgi just like him only younger. The new owners told us we are welcome to visit anytime we want to, so that was nice of them. We won't go very often, because now that is Thunder's new home .

Postcards are important

Why are postcards important? Well did you ever wonder for instance about the handwriting on the postcards? Have you ever looked at a postcard and notice the date?
Well this week I received a photo of two Postcards from Richiboucto Village sent to Gardner Massachusstts. there was no date on the postcards but it was written by a first cousin of my grandfather which now gives me another line to trace and inquire about.
And did you know at one time our ancestors had photos taken and it was on a postcard? Well I was looking in my old photos last week for some new found cousins and I found this gentleman who was the brother of my great grandfather and I turned the photo around and it was a postcard but the best of it, was that on the back was some writing. And guess what? It was written by my grandfather, who was probably writing to his mother or brother and on that postcard it said that his uncle was a very nice man and that he had offered to let my grandfather stay there until he got a job. What a nice thing to have as a souvenir. My grandfather's handwriting. I have never met my grandfather, he died way before I was born.
So before you throw away old postcards, see if you can find out anything about the photos and the people who wrote on the back. You never know what you will find.
Genealogy is finding the history of our ancestors as well as their names ,dates of births, marriages and death. Their lives were more than that, they had families, they had problems, they worked hard, some had jobs, some were talented, some were not, some were muscians , others good at something else, but it is a great feeling to put as much as we can about them along with our genealogy. I found out my grandfather died of Lupus , I have a nephew who has lupus, does it follow down the lines? My grandmother had crippling or rhematoid Arthritis, so has Mom. If you do not know about your grandparents but if you know things about your parents, mark those down in your family tree , so that it will help future generations to find the information and it will save them a lot of time, such as we are doing now trying to find out about our grandparents. I found out my grandmother used to follow my grandfather into Lumber camps at one time or another and she used to cut the lumbermen's hair for 25cents a cut and she used to cook for them too. Again things to pass down to my grandchildren and great grandchildren if I am lucky enough to have some.

Our Bergeron-Damboise reunion is getting nearer and things are falling into place, it should be a very nice and fun time.
