SINCE I AM IN THE COUNTRY I AM SEEING MORE WILDLIFE AND IT IS VERY EXCITING, LAST NIGHT I CAME HOME FROM TOWN AND MY HOUSE IS SURROUNDED BY TREES, THERE IS A HUGE SPRUCE TREE AT THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE, ANYWAY I NOTICED UNDER THE TREE SOMETHING BROWN, AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A SQURIREL, BUT NOPE IT WAS TOO BIG, IT WAS A RABBIT, AND HE WAS JUST SITTING THERE, I SHUT THE CAR DOOR, NOPE HE WASNT GOING ANYWHERE. I THINK HE IS THE ONE I AM FEEDING AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. I HAVE THIS LARGE DINNER PLATE ON THE GROUND, AND WHEN I HAVE PEELINGS ETC I PUT IT ON THE PLATE AND IN NO TIME IT IS GONE. MAYBE IT IS THE RABBIT OR MAYBE (GULP) IT MAY BE A COUGAR, MY COMPANY LAST NIGHT TOLD ME THAT HE THINKS HE SAW A BIG CAT IN THE WOODS NEXT TO HERE. WELL IF THERE IS A COUGAR , AND YOU DO NOT SEE ME FOR A FEW DAYS I WILL STILL BE IN THE TREE THAT I CLIMBED UP SO FAST. LOL.
CHANGING THE SUBJECT , I READ IN A BOOK ON CHETICAMP CAPE BRETON
IN THE BOOK IT MENTIONS BAZAARS THEY USED TO HAVE IN THE PARISHES, WELL I REMEMBER A BAZAAR HELD IN PARKTON, BUT I ALWAYS CALLED IT A PICNIC, AND I FOUND AN ARTICLE IN THE PAPER RELATING TO OUR PICNIC. THE REASON THE PICNIC WAS MADE WAS TO HELP PAY OFF THE CHURCH DEBTS. OUR PICNIC WAS HELD ON THE CORNER OF MOUNTAIN ROAD AND KILLAM DRIVE. I WAS NOT MARRIED THEN, I MUST HAVE BEEN 12 OR 13 YEARS OLD, AND I REMEMBER GOING TO THE PICNIC, EATING COTTON CANDY, PLAYING SOME GAMES, ETC, THEY USED TO HAVE MUSIC (ONE PATICULAR
BAND WAS THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS). THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS CONSISTED OF MANY OF THE BAND MEMBERS FROM THE SAME FAMILY. THE MYERS BOYS WHO WERE COUSINS OF MY DAD'S. LEN PLAYED BASS, VINCE PLAYED MADOLINE, GERRY PLAYED GUITAR AND WAS USUALLY THE LEAD SINGER, ONE OF THEIR SISTERS SANG , AND THEN THERE WAS LAURIE. LAURIE WAS REALLY MY FAVORITE, BECAUSE HE WAS THE CLOWN OF THE GANG, HE WOULD COME ON STAGE WEARING BRITCHES , AN OLD HAT AND LOOKED SOMETHING LIKE GRAMPA JONES AND HE USED TO SING YA'LL COME , THEN ON A SERIOUS NOTE HE WOULD COME ON STAGE SINGING NICE SONGS LIKE LITTLE ROSA. THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS WAS A GROUP THAT LASTED A LONG WHILE, THEY HAD A TV SHOW AND A RADIO SHOW , AND WOULD ALWAYS HAVE SPECIAL GUESTS ON.
THE PICNIC WOULD ALSO HAVE ACADIAN DISHES, LIKE POUTINE RAPEE, CHICKEN FRICOT,AND WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE PICNIC GROUNDS , YOU COULD SMELL ALL THIS FOOD, JUST LIKE IF YOU GO TO THE BINGO TODAY AND THEY MAKE POPCORN, YOU SMELL IT ALL OVER THE BINGO. I THINK THEY ARE TRYING TO ENTICE YOU INTO BUYING IT . HEH HEH, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE AN OLD FASHION PICNIC AGAIN.
HAVE A NICE DAY.
