Memory is important, once we lose our memories they are gone, I believe that it is very important to keep some sort of a diary or log or even recordings of them. I know to many of you reading this you might say I can't be bothered, but no don't look at it that way, think about the people in the future who may just say what was Joe like? What was his favorite music? Where did he move to? I cannot find him anywhere? Would you believe I have jotted down the day my son got his first job, his first car, his first black eye? And even his first white hair? I wrote about our Sunday drives, on a trip to nowhere, and where we ended up? I wrote about the births of my grandchildren, and their birthday parties, I wrote about my mom and my dad, I wrote about my late husband (I am so glad I did this, because after my husband passed away of Alzheimer Disease, I made a little story book and gave it to my grandson about his PAPA.)
So my blog today is to try to get as many of you to do something similar, make scrapbooks, collect photos, (I have photos of my great grandparents that I would not part with ) .
I look in the cemeteries and I see all these names on tombstones and I wonder , what were these people's lives like? They had a life , they laughed , they cried, they hurt just like we do now. They should not be forgotten. Memories are a treasure to have and to keep.
Have a great day.

Well I went out and took the big step, the day before last I went out looking for a car, I decided on getting something that will get me to where I want to go, so I went to different dealers, checked out a cavalier, kia, they were nice , just not what I was looking for so I went to the Saturn dealer, and tried one out, the brakes did not seem right , tried another one and "Bingo", it was the right size, a 2002, air conditioned and all, so I bought it, took it home yesterday. It is light or silver gray. Before this one I had an old 91 lumina, what a difference.
Now on to genealogy, did you know that in the 1861 census in Canada they also had listed what our ancestors had for land etc? For instance one of my ancestors
named Augustin Bristol dit Williams had 260 acres of land, a farm worth $800.00, farm machinery worty twenty dollars, two hired hands. He also had two horses, one milking cow, 2 working oxen , 2 other cattle, four sheeps, two pigs and 300 pounds of slaughtered pork. He had twenty pounds of butter, eight pounds of wool, so many acres of hay, oats, buckwheat, potatoes. So Augustin must have been a well to do farmer in those days.
If any of you have ancestors who were in Canada in 1861 , check out what they had in their possession if you can. I add these little things to my genealogy, it is better than just saying Tom was a son of Joe who was a son of James isn't it?
have a great day.

April is nearly over, when we are young we never notice how time flies, now it seems we are only up for a short time then it is time to go back to bed. My little rabbits are still coming out to eat, this morning i put out some cabbage pieces, some celery pieces, some peelings. They usually come out around supper time.
I haven't seen any deer yet, and I hung one of my bird feeders up, I want to buy some niger seeds for the little finches also.
Well to change the subject, a friend of mine told me to type in my name in googles and I tried it, "wow" many things came up , my website came up, my yahoo group came up, some things I have at the genealogy center came up. I am very proud of my acadian genealogy group, we are like one big family, and the members are so very helpful when they can help others, so I believe that they too are addicted to genealogy as I am. (smile). As for my website, I am also very proud of my work there, I keep trying to add new stuff. I have message boards, links , obits, some census, am even trying an acadian recipe board,I have a link to my group in my website too, and just in case someone is reading this who is interested in genealogy (mostly acadian/cajun) here is the link http://www.geocities.com/ize_o_blue/index.html

have a great day

Another warm day announced for today, but we are also going to have rain along with the warmth. A sure sign of summer is when the country take outs open, and I noticed our ice cream stand has opened in saint antoine, I enjoy stopping for an ice cream on a sunday drive. The take outs usually all open the long weekend of May, that is when many folks open their cottages also.
The garden supplies are all out, you drive by the stores, they have all their soils and manure piled outside the stores. Ah yes a sure sign that summer is near.
Today I want to share something with you that I know I have told many of you, but since this blog reaches new folks I know you will enjoy this; As I said before I am into genealogy, one day I was looking through land grants for some tidbits regarding my parents, my mom told me that in those days, the government granted you land and in order for you to keep the land you had to clear so many acres. Anyway Mr Brun from the genealogy center noticed I was looking in Gallagher Ridge , he asked what I was looking for and I told him, he was very interested and he said to me how long ago was that? I said well my oldest sister was only a baby so around 1935 or 1936, he then said come here and see this video clip (an old movie) which I did go look, on the film were a lot of poor looking houses and I mean poor, and I seen this lady , she was not bad dressed and I thought gee that looks like my mom, but said nothing, the houses were all covered in tar paper, the kids were barefeet, but in a corner was this log house, covered in tar paper but it looked nice, and at the window I saw this cow. Mr Brun and I laughed at that, but I did not recognize anyone, I told Mr Brun, "my mom may know someone" he said bring her in to see.
So I went to my Mom's told her what I saw, but not about the cow. she said well the old lady is either mrs Hebert or old Mrs Chase, she continued while we were there we had a COW and she said every morning that cow came to our bedroom window and you would swear she was saying Edmooooooooooooooond Dad's name was Edmond, and Dad would say "she's calling me , i had better get up". When Mom came to identify the people, sure enough it was their house, their cow, their dogs, my mother,my father, my father's grandmother, and some of my father's aunts, others she didnt remember. Mom was sixteen or seventeen years old, she is now 88. They had a copy made for us on a CD, I copied enough copies to give to all my siblings and of course to my mother. What a treasure to have. See there are lots of good things to discover in genealogy.
have a great day.

Mother's Day soon will be here, my mom is lucky this year, her birth date falls on mother's day, she will be 88 and we are planning a surprise party for her, she keeps saying no one comes over to visit, (even if we do haha) so we are going to get as many of the family and friends as possible. My brother makes the nicest cakes so he will be making her cake making her believe it is for my sister in law's mother. It will be so nice getting together on a happy occasion, I have invited cousins, nephews, aunts, and as many friends of hers as possible. It should be a nice event. My mother came from around Saint Paul in New Brunswick and I came across this article from the Moniteur Acadien which was a newspaper dated 1873 and translated .
What courageous people can do
In Kent county about ten miles from Saint Mary's church is a lovely new village named Saint Paul, for seven years it had no name, nor any place name on the map of the province. What a change, what a idea of the willingness of man this gives us. Seeing that is such a short time, some men , ax in hand formed a parish 4 miles long, built 123 houses, barns etc, 3 or 4 mills,a store, a lovely church and other buildings, it seems unbelievable but it is true, because we have seen this with our own eyes last week.Everyone who has land in Saint Paul today are comfortable, but many of them when they arrived here had nothing else but just a few things to survive, they had no church and believed that they never would, so far so far they were from the nearest church. To complete the village they need a school and a teacher to teach the children to read and write, because opening in a few weeks will be the post office where the intelligent people of Saint Paul will come get their newspaper le Moniteur Acadien.

Just a note to end this, I lived on the outskirts of Saint Paul about three years ago, there is still a post office, a church, a store, a school. They have two stores the CoOp ( a grocery store), and a general store, they have a bank, so Saint Paul hasnt gotten very big , but Saint Antoine which isnt far from Saint Paul has flourished, they have more population than Saint Paul. But never the less , they are both lovely places, I sort of connect more with Saint Paul , since many of my ancestors lived there.
have a great day

TODAY IT IS NICE AND SUNNY, THE GRASS IS TURNING GREEN, NOW MY THOUGHTS ARE INTO PLANTING A GARDEN. I REMEMBER MY FIRST GARDEN, WE LIVED IN THE CENTER OF THE CITY, MY NEIGHBOR HAD A GARDEN AND I ENVIED HIM, ONE DAY I TALKED TO HIM AND HE SAID I WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE A GARDEN SO HE TOLD ME I NEEDED MANURE ,SO I ASKED MY HUSBAND TO GO GET ME A LOAD, HE DID , AND HE EMPTIED IT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN. SO THE NEXT DAY AT 630 AM I WAS UP DRESSED AND HAD RUBBER BOOTS ON, AND INTO THE GARDEN I WENT TO SPREAD THE MANURE, AND BOY DID IT EVER SMELL (REMEMBER I AM A CITY GIRL) BUT I KEPT ON GOING, MY NEIGHBOR WAS IN HIS DOORWAY AND HE WAS LAUGHING HIS HEAD OFF, MY SON CAME TO THE DOOR HE WAS AROUND TEN YEARS OLD, HE YELLED " MOM I AM NEVER EATING ANYTHING FROM "THAT" GARDEN, BUT I ENDED UP WITH THE NICEST JUMBO JIM TOMATOES IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD.
YEARS AGO IT MUST HAVE BEEN HARD WORK FOR OUR ANCESTORS TO PLANT THEIR GARDENS, NO TILLER, NO HOSES TO WATER, THEY PROBABLY HAD TO WATER THEIR GARDENS BY HAND WITH BUCKETS.
MY MOTHER TOLD THAT HER PARENTS USED TO SALT MOST OF THEIR VEGETABLES FROM THEIR GARDEN FOR THE WINTER. MY GRANDFATHER WOULD HANG HIS MEAT UP IN THE TREES HIGH ENOUGH SO THE ANIMALS COULDN'T REACH IT, MY
GRANDMOTHER USED TO KEEP HER BUTTER AND MILK IN THE NEARBY SPRING.
OUR ANCESTORS HAD TO BE TOUGH IN ORDER TO SURVIVE, THEIR WINTERS WERE SOMETIMES HARSH. MY MOTHER REMEMBERS WHEN SHE WAS AROUND TEN OR ELEVEN THAT THEY HAD A SNOW STORM SO BAD THAT HER BROTHER AND HER HAD TO SHOVEL A TUNNEL TO GET TO THEIR WOOD SHED. ONE TIME MY GRANDFATHER WAS AWAY AT WORK AND MY GRANDMOTHER HAD TO PHONE THE NEIGHBOR TO COME SHOVEL HER DOOR IN ORDER FOR HER TO BE ABLE TO OPEN IT.
THIS MAKES ME REALIZE HOW HARD IT WAS FOR THEM AND HOW LUCKY WE ARE NOT TO HAVE THOSE HARDSHIPS.
HAVE A GREAT DAY

CAUGHT IN THE ACT, YEP I CAUGHT THE VARMINT IN THE ACT, REMEMBER I SAW A RABBIT UNDER THE SPRUCE TREE? WELL LAST NIGHT JUST BEFORE DARK, I HAPPENED TO LOOK OUT MY KITCHEN WINDOW TOWARDS THE OLD DINNER PLATE WHERE I USUALLY PUT THE PEELINGS AND WHATEVER ELSE, AND THERE WAS THE CULPRIT, MY HANDSOME BROWN RABBIT, JUST A MUNCHING AWAY, HE IS A BIG FELLA. I HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA AND IF EVER I CAN TAKE HIS PICTURE, I SHALL SHOW IT TO YOU, BUT MY CAMERA IS NOT VERY POWERFUL. THE DEER ALSO SHOULD BE SHOWING THEMSELVES SOON AND I AM HOPING TO SEE ONE IN THE FIELD .
NOW BACK TO GENEALOGY , FOR THE ONES WHO READ THIS AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT GENEALOGY IS, WELL IT IS RESEARCHING YOUR ANCESTORS, DOING FAMILY TREES. ONCE YOU GET INTO IT YOU ARE REALLY REALLY ADDICTED, THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE FOR GENEALOGY, I KNOW I HAVE THE ADDICTION, AND THIS IS ONE ADDICTION I DO NOT MIND HAVING AT ALL.
SO IN GENEALOGY THE MIND IS GOING ALL THE TIME, WHERE DID GRANDFATHER GO TO ON SUNDAYS? WAS HE A STRONG MAN? ARE THERE ANY PHOTOS SOMEWHERE OF HIM? MAYBE HE RESEMBLED MY SON? WAS MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER A GOOD SEAMSTRESS? IF SO I SURE DID NOT TAKE AFTER HER HA HA. BUT MY MOTHER TOOK AFTER MY GRANDMOTHER, SHE CAN KNIT , CROCHET, SEW, MY SISTERS CAN KNIT AND SEW, I AM THE ODD ONE , BUT BUT I SURE CAN DO MY GENEALOGY AND THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE , SO I THINK I MAY HAVE A TOUCH OF MY GRANDMOTHER BECAUSE SHE WAS A STORY TELLER, SO IS MY MOTHER, SO I GUESS WE ALL HAVE OUR SPECIAL TALENTS. DID OUR ANCESTORS HAVE DISEASES THAT WERE BROUGHT DOWN TO THEIR DESCENDENTS? YES i DO BELIEVE SO, MY GRANDFATHER DIED OF LUPUS, BUT THEY HAD ANOTHER NAME FOR IT, I LOOKED IT UP AND IT MEANT LUPUS, MOM ALWAYS SAID HE DIED OF KIDNEY DISEASE, NOW MY BROTHER'S SON HAS LUPUS. MY HUSBAND DIED OF ALZHEIMERS DISEASE, THAT IS A VERY HEART WRENCHING DISEASE, AND I SIT HERE AND WONDER IF HIS GRANDMOTHER DIDN'T HAVE ALZHEIMERS, SHE DIED IN AN ASYLUM.
COULD IT BE POSSIBLE? I WONDER. SO IF YOU THINK OF STARTING YOUR GENEALOGY, JUST REMEMBER TO JOT DOWN ALL THE INFO YOU FIND OR HEAR ABOUT YOUR RELATIVES. I DID AND I STILL DO.
HAVE A GREAT DAY.

SINCE I AM IN THE COUNTRY I AM SEEING MORE WILDLIFE AND IT IS VERY EXCITING, LAST NIGHT I CAME HOME FROM TOWN AND MY HOUSE IS SURROUNDED BY TREES, THERE IS A HUGE SPRUCE TREE AT THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE, ANYWAY I NOTICED UNDER THE TREE SOMETHING BROWN, AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A SQURIREL, BUT NOPE IT WAS TOO BIG, IT WAS A RABBIT, AND HE WAS JUST SITTING THERE, I SHUT THE CAR DOOR, NOPE HE WASNT GOING ANYWHERE. I THINK HE IS THE ONE I AM FEEDING AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. I HAVE THIS LARGE DINNER PLATE ON THE GROUND, AND WHEN I HAVE PEELINGS ETC I PUT IT ON THE PLATE AND IN NO TIME IT IS GONE. MAYBE IT IS THE RABBIT OR MAYBE (GULP) IT MAY BE A COUGAR, MY COMPANY LAST NIGHT TOLD ME THAT HE THINKS HE SAW A BIG CAT IN THE WOODS NEXT TO HERE. WELL IF THERE IS A COUGAR , AND YOU DO NOT SEE ME FOR A FEW DAYS I WILL STILL BE IN THE TREE THAT I CLIMBED UP SO FAST. LOL.
CHANGING THE SUBJECT , I READ IN A BOOK ON CHETICAMP CAPE BRETON
IN THE BOOK IT MENTIONS BAZAARS THEY USED TO HAVE IN THE PARISHES, WELL I REMEMBER A BAZAAR HELD IN PARKTON, BUT I ALWAYS CALLED IT A PICNIC, AND I FOUND AN ARTICLE IN THE PAPER RELATING TO OUR PICNIC. THE REASON THE PICNIC WAS MADE WAS TO HELP PAY OFF THE CHURCH DEBTS. OUR PICNIC WAS HELD ON THE CORNER OF MOUNTAIN ROAD AND KILLAM DRIVE. I WAS NOT MARRIED THEN, I MUST HAVE BEEN 12 OR 13 YEARS OLD, AND I REMEMBER GOING TO THE PICNIC, EATING COTTON CANDY, PLAYING SOME GAMES, ETC, THEY USED TO HAVE MUSIC (ONE PATICULAR
BAND WAS THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS). THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS CONSISTED OF MANY OF THE BAND MEMBERS FROM THE SAME FAMILY. THE MYERS BOYS WHO WERE COUSINS OF MY DAD'S. LEN PLAYED BASS, VINCE PLAYED MADOLINE, GERRY PLAYED GUITAR AND WAS USUALLY THE LEAD SINGER, ONE OF THEIR SISTERS SANG , AND THEN THERE WAS LAURIE. LAURIE WAS REALLY MY FAVORITE, BECAUSE HE WAS THE CLOWN OF THE GANG, HE WOULD COME ON STAGE WEARING BRITCHES , AN OLD HAT AND LOOKED SOMETHING LIKE GRAMPA JONES AND HE USED TO SING YA'LL COME , THEN ON A SERIOUS NOTE HE WOULD COME ON STAGE SINGING NICE SONGS LIKE LITTLE ROSA. THE BUNKHOUSE BOYS WAS A GROUP THAT LASTED A LONG WHILE, THEY HAD A TV SHOW AND A RADIO SHOW , AND WOULD ALWAYS HAVE SPECIAL GUESTS ON.
THE PICNIC WOULD ALSO HAVE ACADIAN DISHES, LIKE POUTINE RAPEE, CHICKEN FRICOT,AND WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE PICNIC GROUNDS , YOU COULD SMELL ALL THIS FOOD, JUST LIKE IF YOU GO TO THE BINGO TODAY AND THEY MAKE POPCORN, YOU SMELL IT ALL OVER THE BINGO. I THINK THEY ARE TRYING TO ENTICE YOU INTO BUYING IT . HEH HEH, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE AN OLD FASHION PICNIC AGAIN.
HAVE A NICE DAY.

Hmmm green is a pretty color, creating a blog is like a new toy. I never thought I would be interested in blogging but the real reason is because I didn't think I was smart enough heh heh.
Well I finally finished a project I have been on for about three years , I went to the genealogy center and copied obits from the newspaper for the periods of 1935,1936,1937,1938 and 1939, total obits is between 1682 and 1684 . what a long process, then I copied them to a CD . These obits are all french surnames maybe a few irish who has acadians in their families.
Now I would like to share something else with you:
in 1885 my great grandfather lived in the country about 30 to 40 miles from Moncton and he and his brother used to take the train into moncton to buy their groceries, and they would get the groceries on credit and the owner would mark it into a log book, when I went to the genealogy center Mr. Regis Brun told me about it, since he knew who I was researching, anyway I looked into the log book and here are the things they bought and the prices they paid for them;
9 3/4 lbs pork and 5 lbs codfish = $1.37
3 figs tobacco = .39
4 3/4 lbs of pork and 1/2 gal molasses =.77
2 lbs beans, 2 figs tobacco, 2 lbs barley = 24
1/2 bushel potatoes 3 1/4 lb butter = $1.08
13 lbs codfish = .58
1 barrel flour and 9 1/2 lbs pork = $7.64
1/2 gallon molasses and 2 1/4 lb cheese = . 56
1 can lobster and 1 can oysters =.39 (mmmm wish i were there then )
2 dozen eggs, 1 lb tea and 5 lbs beans = .91
1/4 lb hops, 1/2 gal molasses and 1/4 lb ginger = .42

wonder what our dollar equal to theirs back then?

have a great day

well today I did not have my teecoff but a nice cup of hot tea is nice, I drink mine black, can you imagine that I used to drink my tea when I first began drinking it with three sugar and three cream? The reason I quit was way back then I began gaining weight and it was suggested to me to drink my tea black, the first time I tried it to me it tasted so bitter, now I am contented with it.
looking through my book of Sainte Marie, I found something to share, because it brought back memories of other things.
When the first settlers arrived in Sainte Marie de Kent, there were no doctors,so they had to make do with what they could gather using some of their parents or grandparent's knowledge, for instance they used the bark, branches, and buds of the fir tree they made medecins to heal sore throat, cuts, sore backs, colds, asthma, ulcers etc.with the elderberries they made ointments for cuts, wild cherry tree aided in giving you your appetite back after or during the flu. They used different trees and different plants to their advantage. They used potatoes as a poltice or patch for warts, turnips for sore throats, the next one I remember my mother in law using, it was goose grease for hair loss, in the book it says they used bear grease or beef fat, chicken grease helped with the chicken pox and the list goes on,
some of those old medecins had to work because some of our ancestors lived to a ripe old age.
Now I remember growing up , my mother made mustard patches, when we had colds and fevers, and she used to use walkins medicated ointment for everything, for colds she used to rub our chest with the ointment and put some under our nose, it worked. For a splinter or a boil, she soaked bread in milk and put the bread on the splinter or boil and cover it with bandage or gauze and it would draw the splinter out and bust the boil. She used peppermint , camfyre ,ginger, for other uses that I cannot remember but I remember her saying ginger is good for this, etc. So to end my blog today I would just like to say , it sure is nice to remember the past , but the greatest joy I have is knowing someday my descendants will be able to read some of my memories or memories passed down to my by my ancestors.
have a great day.

Did you ever try to do too many things at a time? well I am here laughing at myself, I awoke thinking of my day and what I need to do, and what to add to my blog, so I am walking around in the kitchen, making my tea to have near my computer room, so I filled the teapot, nice hot tea, and my mind is still going strong on my day, so that is fine, the tea is made the teapot on the counter waiting to be brought upstairs, but I feel like having a cuppa coffee first, I use nescafe intant (goes faster lol) so I put the coffee in the cup, added my sugar and instead of taking water from the kettle right next to the teapot, I grabbed the teapot, filled my coffee cup with the tea, so now I am having a cuppa teecoff haha.
The following is taken from my family tree info.
When Mom was young , she lived in the country and as you read before ,she had to walk a dirt road to attend school, well when spring arrived she and her siblings were anxious to walk to school barefeet, so on their way to school they would remove their shoes and stockings and walk to school in their bare feet, and when they got near the school, put them back on, and they would do the same on their way home. I remember my father in law telling me that his grandfather lived in sainte marie kent county new brunswick , his name was Meleme Cormier and he used to walk from Sainte Marie to Bouctouche (which was a long walk) and he would do the same, take off his shoes until he neared Bouctouche and put them on while he was there, remove them on his way back, but his reason was different , his was because he wanted to save his shoes, my father in law told me his grandfather told him that he remembered wearing rags wrapped around his feet as shoes. I think we are very lucky not to have to have gone through all that.
have a nice day.

In 1993 while i was doing a lot of digging for my roots, I contacted a great uncle on my mother's side, he was in his mid nineties at the time, he was an old hermit ,lived by himself with his cows , horses, when I was little I remember going to his old farm (this was elsewhere) and as I said he lived alone but he was educated, and at his farm he raised different color peacocks, pheasants, he told me once he had sent for a white deer and when he got it , it got away and he never found it again , he said it mated with the other deer. He always had his doors open in his house and I will never forget going inside, he used the same cup for his tea day in and day out, there were chickens in his house , they walked in and out . I said to myself , gee I won't eat here. heh heh.
Getting back to the beginning of this blog, my great uncle mentioned a friend of his that lived in the states and he had given her some photos, a bell went off in my head "photos???? So I contacted this lady in the usa, she was in massachussetts, and we started corresponding, I did her family tree for her, I had this blank tree that I filled in, she put it on her wall, anyway one day I received a letter from her, in the letter she wrote " this is no good to me, Larry sent it to me , I am giving it to you. It was an old telegram dated 1893 (notice I begin this letter with 1993 well the telegram was the original one sent to my grandfather's father saying his father had died. Can you imagine how excited I was??? I made photo copies for all my family and some relatives, took the original telegram down to the genealogy archives and gave it to them, I figured that it is a great find and I wanted other generations to be able to see it.
Now I need a nice cuppa of something hot tea or coffee and back to my project.
Have a nice day.

Today is Easter sunday, I remember when I was newly married every Easter I had a new outfit and a new hat, as was the custom for so many years.
My mother told me a story a few years back, she lived in the country and had to walk about two miles to school, she lived on a dirt road and had to walk to the highway where her school was, this would have been around 1928 or so. Anyway back then my grandmother used to order stuff from the catalog in the winter and in the spring, in the winter she would order her kids each a complete brand new outfit of clothers for the following spring. One day she said to my mom, stay home, I am going to work (she worked at cleaning houses) the order is coming in today. So my grandmother left for work, this was near Easter, so Mom said her order came in very early, Mom got all dressed up, a new dress, new stocking, new shoes even a new hat. Mom said that she thought she would go to school with her new outfit. Mom was quite shy when she was young, anyway she started walking to school , so proud of her new clothes, she got to school (it was a one room schoolhouse), enters the class, sits down and everyone was staring at her, Mom wondered why. Not even ten minutes had she sat down that the school bell rings.
Class was over.
Now I would like to share a poem with you that I composed for genealogy, and I believe at the moment it is being shown somewhere in Wales UK, a friend of mine I met through genealogy liked it and asked my permission to use it. Here it is;

have a great day....
I awoke to the sound of the birds chirping , the sun is up, so far I have only seen the robins, and a pheasant. There are rabbits in the woods just across the field and it is so nice to see them come out of the woods, they are some huge and changing their fur color to brown now. I am a city girl with a love for country and wild animals, I just love going for a drive seeing a deer in the fields, had a visitor the other day a little grey squirrel decided to come and say hello, when he saw the two dogs he left like a shot of lightning.
I had told you yesterday about the extra question in this years canadian census, well I took it a step further and sent an email to the transcript reminding people to say yes to releasing the info, hope they publish it.
now for a little history on Saint Gregoire New Brunswick ,from the book of saint gregoire.
The village of Saint Gregoire was known as Doherty's Mill from 1822 to 1892, it is
situated on the south side of little Bouctouche River formerly Madagouiac.
It forms a part of Saint-Jean Baptiste parish of Bouctouche New Brunswick in Canada except for the village of up above where six families are living on Renaud Mills which forms part of Saint Antoine (which had a resident priest in 1940)
In the parish census of 1885 it shows there were 25 families living in Saint Gregoire (named in honor of Gregoire Cormier born around 1793 in Memramcook NB married to Madeleine Babineau oct 18,1814.
The four founders of Saint Gregoire were Israel Cormier born around 1794 married to Marguerite Robichaud in 1818, Michel Cormier married to Appoline Robichaud 1822, Gregoire Cormier married to Madeleine Babineau 1814 and
Sylvain Bastarache married to Henriette Richard 1852.
note Sylvain Bastarache had a son William who lived with his family in the house he inherited from his father . William Bastarache had two sons albert who was single, cripple and who used to sell cigarettes to the neighbors and another son who went and lived in the usa.
Hope you enjoyed this little tidbit ,
have a nice day.

Regarding our census, I was reading in our newspaper that we will be asked for the first time if we agree to having our information revealed in 92 years from now, well as for myself I will say yes yes yes, even if I had some skeletons in my closet or had a child out of wedlock etc , I want my data revealed, because I know how hard it is to find information and I would not want my descendents having to do the same. so I would like to say to all of you reading this, please , please say yes on your form? 92 years from now how many of us will be here?
Now just a little story to share with you. My late husband told me stories about his youth and I have jotted them down and made a little book for my grandson and one of the stories he told me was when he was 17 years old he got his first car, his father got him a 1936 Ford, with a running board on the side , anyway my husband was so proud of the car , but his father was always looking out the front window , and he noticed my husband always parked the car on the roadside, and this was in the winter time, so he said to my husband " how come you never park in the driveway? My husband did not reply, so his father said IF you do not park the car in the drive way you lose the car. My husband said to me, " I got in the car and went around the block and I gave it all I could , hit the side of the snow bank and in the yard I went. So he said I enjoyed my car from that day on.
Have a nice day.

Well hello, now I know someone is interested, and since this is my first blog ever and I haven't a clue if I am doing this correct or not I shall go on the way I am doing for now.
I have a lot of things going at the moment, and one thing is thinking of anything genealogy related to the acadiens or others who have acadien roots in their families.I keep wondering what could I do that would be important to others? what can I add that isnt on the internet yet? That is one thing.
Another thing is I am wondering how to go about publishing a song written by my late husband and a few of his friends, who have all since passed away. The song is written in acadian form and in Shiaque (which is half french , half english) and the song is cute. So that is another one of my projects .
Anyway I have been reading a lot of books related to genealogy and history lately and I was looking through a book I was given years ago on the history of Saint louis de Kent in New Brunswick and I found this
FAMILIES THAT WERE HUGE
An ancient governor of Acadie, Richard Philipps said of the Acadians before they were exiled," they form a body that spreads throughout all the provinces like
the decendents of Noe, which many historians agree to.
In Saint Louis Isodore Barrieau had 26 kids, his brother Hilaire had 17 kids.
Jean Richard had 19 , Jacques Fontaine and Pierre Ouellet had 18, Joseph
Blanchard and Albeni Maillet had 17, Placide Babin ,Alphee Daigle,Francois
Babineau,Joseph Vautour,Laurent Vautour had 16,Arthur Vautour,Fred Vautour
and Joseph D Vautour had 15,Auguste Babineau,Jean Daigle,Oscar Doucet,
Fred Landry, Dominique Martin,Celime Vautour,Joseph F Vautour and Livain
Vautour had 14.
And the list goes on to 13 . The list totals to 699 kids , can you imagine? All these were just in a little village called Saint Louis De Kent. I have been there quite
often. Besides all the big families, many of these people lived to be in their 90 even 100 years of age.
have a nice day.

TODAY IS NOW, THE FUTURE IS TOMORROW, BUT THE PAST WILL NEVER BE AGAIN, SO I WOULD LIKE STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO GRAB AS MUCH OF TODAY AS POSSIBLE , MEANING WE ALL HAVE MEMORIES, AND MANY WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE . YEARS FROM NOW OUR DECENDANTS MAY WONDER ABOUT US, WHAT WE LIKED, WHERE WE LIVED, WHAT WE DID FOR FUN AND SO ON. SO IN MY CASE I HAVE JOTTED STORIES ALONG WITH MY GENEALOGY DATA.FOR INSTANCE MY MOTHER IS 88 YEARS OLD, SHE HAS A VERY GOOD MEMORY AND WHEN I STARTED MY GENEALOGY, SHE WOULD TELL ME STORIES, AND I BEGAN LISTENING TO HER EVERY WORDS , THEN AS SOON AS WE HUNG UP THE PHONE, I WOULD JOT HER LITTLE TIDBITS. FOR INSTANCE
SHE TOLD ME THAT WHEN HER AND DAD GOT MARRIED , SHE WAS VERY YOUNG AND I MEAN VERY YOUNG, AND FOR HER HONEYMOON, HER UNCLE LOANED HER AND DAD HIS LOG CABIN. THE LOG CABIN WAS NESTLED IN SOME TREES NEAR A STREAM, VERY NICE AND COSY. WELL MOM AND DAD HAD JUST SETTLED DOWN FOR THE NIGHT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY HEARD SOMETHING OUTSIDE, NOISES , VOICES, AND THE NOISE AND VOICES GOT LOUDER AND LOUDER. IT WAS THEIR FRIENDS , SOME WERE YELLING, SOME WERE RINGING COW BELLS, SOME WERE BANGING POTS AND PANS, OTHERS HITTING ON THE DOOR. I SAID TO MOM WHAT DID YOU AND DAD DO THEN? SHE REPLIED WE HAD TO LET THEM IN. I SAID WHY? SHE REPLIED , IF WE HAD NOT LET THEM IN THEY WOULD HAVE CONTINUED ALL NIGHT LONG. MOM SAID IT IS CALLED A CHEVARY AND IT HAPPENED EVERY TIME SOMEONE WOULD GET MARRIED. SO THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I DID NOT KNOW, AND ONE DAY MY GRANDCHILDREN WILL READ MY BOOK, AND REMEMBER THE STORIES TO PASS ON TO THEIR GRANDCHILDREN.
SO TALK TO YOUR GRANDPARENTS , PARENTS, AUNTS, UNCLES , WRITE IT DOWN , ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS. REMEMBER WHEN THEY ARE GONE, IT WILL BE TOO LATE.
HAVE A GREAT DAY

HELLO MY NAME IS ALINE CORMIER, I WAS BORN IN NEW BRUNSWICK CANADA, THE FIFTH CHILD OF A FAMILY OF EIGHT, MY OLDEST SISTER DIED AT THE AGE OF THREE MONTHS. I HAVE ONE SON, TWO GRANDKIDS WHOM I LOVE DEARLY. WHEN MY SON WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL , HE HAD A SCHOOL PROJECT ON GENEALOGY, HE CAME HOME WITH THIS FAMILY TREE CHART AND BEGAN ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT MY FAMILY. WELL THIS REALLY INTERESTED ME , BUT I FIGURED NAH IM TOO OLD TO START THIS. HE SAID TO ME, MOM ANYONE CAN DO GENEALOGY, YOU CAN GO TO THE GENEALOGY CENTER ITS FREE TO DO SO. ANOTHER PLUS IN MY FAVOR. SO ONE DAY I SAID TO MYSELF, WHY NOT TRY IT?
WELL THE FIRST DAY THAT I WENT TO THE GENEALOGY CENTER, IT WAS ALL GREEK TO ME. WHAT DID MICROFILMS MEAN? AM I ALLOWED TO USE THEM? HEY HOW DO I GET THE FILM ONTO THE MACHINE. HELP? FINALLY I MASTERED THAT. NOW WHERE DO I LOOK? OH THERE ARE SOME PARISH REGISTERS, ALL KINDS OF THEM, OH BOY. HERE I GO.
OH THERE IS MY GRANDFATHER'S MARRIAGE, OOOPS NO PARENTS LISTED
HMM, NOW WHAT? OH THERE IS A SAME SURNAME AS HIS ON THE MARRIAGE
CERTIFICAT. WONDER IF THEY ARE RELATED? WHEN I WOULD FIND SOMETHING ABOUT MY ANCESTORS , EVEN IF IT WAS JUST A DATE, WHAT A FIND IT WAS FOR ME. THEN I WAS INTRODUCED TO NEWSPAPERS, AND OFF I WENT SEARCHING, I FOUND SO MANY LITTLE TIDBITS, SUCH AS MY GREAT GRANDFATHER ACQUIRED SO MANY ACRES OF LAND IN SUCH AND SUCH A PLACE, MY AUNT JUST RETURED FROM A TRIP TO THE USA VISITING HER SISTER. WOW ANOTHER CLUE.
JUST TO ADD THIS NOTE, WHEN I BEGAN MY GENEALOGY I DIDN'T HAVE A COMPUTER, SO I DID EVERTHING LIKE WRITING FOR BIRTH, MARRIAGES AND DEATH CERTIFICATS. GOING TO THE CEMETERIES ETC. I HAVE MY NOTES IN DIFFERENT BINDERS, THAT I NEED TO SORT OUT ONE DAY, I HAVE COLLETED PHOTOS OF WHOEVER I COULD GET. I HAVE A PHOTO OF MY MOTHER'S GRANPARENTS WHO RESEMBLE JED CLAMPETT AND GRANNY CLAMPETT OF THE BEVERLEY HILLBILLES. MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER HAS A LONG DRESS WITH AN APRON, SHE HAS THE SMALL ROUND GLASSES AND HER HAIR PULLED BACK IN A BUN AND SHE IS ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS GRANNY CLAMPETT WAS. MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS WEARING A HAT LIKE JED CLAMPETT AND SORT OR RESEMBLED HIM, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER. SO TO ME PICTURES ARE TREASURES TO KEEP. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF TODAY WE HAD A PICTURE OF THE FIRST OF OUR ANCESTORS WHO CAME TO AMERICA? THAT WOULD BE LIKE GOLD TO ME.
SO I CREATED THIS BLOG TO SHARE WITH YOU , AND FOR YOU TO SHARE WITH ME. HAVE A GREAT DAY
