My meeting with Maria went very well. This morning I was up bright and early and ready to go. Our plans were to meet at ten am at our local mall. So I arrived first and ordered my favorite coffee. Yep you guessed it, Tim Horton's. I arrived around 930 am and at our local mall there is usually other folks that I know. So this morning was no exception. three of my first cousins were sitting together, so I sat next to them and had a very pleasant chat. Next came another couple I knew from school days, we chatted about our school teachers. All the while I kept looking for Maria. Ooops there she is. So I changed tables and we had a very nice and enjoyable chat. We chatted genealogy, we chatted about our families, we chatted about people we knew in common. And Maria brought me down a little gift. And in case I never mentioned it, I collect bells and music boxes, and Maria brought me two little bells. One is blue and looks to be quite old and the other one is a little angel bell, I did not have either of them. So now I have two more bells.
As for our photo, well my two cousins were behind us, so I asked one fo them to do the honors and take our photo, grin. She took two with my camera and two with Maria's. So now we have souvenirs to keep. Maria told me she went to Taylor Village and there was an english cemetery and she took some photos, she said she thinks that there was a Williams buried there, she is going to check her photos and see. So who knows it could be one of my ancestors. I will wait until she gets back home to know.
Maria said to me, do you ever wonder about what our ancestors did or looked like or what they ate. I said yes I think of that every day. That is why I took a trip to Taylor Village a while back , just to walk where some of my ancestors were. That is why I want to take a trip to Port Royal ,and Grand Pre this summer. If and when I do I shall share my trip with you.
Thank you for listening, thank you for dropping by.
Have a great day

What a lovely day, I am here looking out my window and I have this huge maple tree outside my window. The leaves are red and beautiful. I only moved here recently so I did not know what the summer would bring. I have tulips in bloom, now mind you I have only three blooming two yellow and one red. Nevertheless I do have flowers.
Since I have last blogged I have been pretty busy, I had ordered some films through my library and they arrived , so off to the library I went. The films were of school returns ,I was looking for my grandfather in Saint Paul Kent County but without any success. I found two of his brothers and one sister all in the same class, but my grandfather was much younger so he was not in school. The following years this family was not in school so they had to have moved away during those years. So next I need to see if there were school returns in Nova Scotia for the years I am looking for.
I have created a page in my website www.acadian-roots.com on Acadian School Returns and have added many classes all from Kent County New Brunswick. I may order the ones from Westmorland County next since I had ancestors from there and in the same time I can add more to my website in case some of your ancestors are listed. In the past I have found all my grades from grade one to eight , I found my mather's classroom, my fathers', my husband's and some of my siblings. Of course all of these are in my family tree book .
In genealogy my outlook is to find as much as I can on each one of my ancestors.
I read about our first ancestors we traced to and find little articles in journals that were written back in the late 1600's and 1700s and too bad there were not more of those articles. In my book I even wrote what my favorite foods were, what I loved to do, and what my inlaws were like . All of these stories go to my grandchildren who even if they are not interested right now ,one day they may love to read these things. But at the moment I do know my grandaughter and grandson loves to hear stories about their papa, and stories of when they were little babies. Oh yes those are in my book too, my grandaughter's first words, my grandson's first steps,my son's first job, etc. Oh yes memories are to be shared before we are gone.
Have a great day

My special gift that I received in the post today is the painting you see on the left. I told you a while ago that I had found a new cousin, well she really found me and that we have been communicating with photos and stories and excitement of just finding each other. Well she painted this picture for me and if you look on the table on the left side there is writing and she painted my surnames on the page. on the front of the teapot on that paper is my name Aline. Very very nice. So now I have two paitings which bears my surnames. To my special cousin I would like to say Thank You so much from my heart for such a nice gift. I will cherish it and hang it on my wall. And every time I look at it I will know it is from a very special cousin. Thank you for stopping by.

Have a great day

L'ETOILE newspaper. For the ones of you who read the French paper L'Etoile, I heard through the grapevines that it is a possibility that they may stop the newspaper so I am asking you to let them know that we want them to keep the paper going. The newspaper covers stories from Kent County New Brunswick, and Dieppe New Brunswick, there are lots of interesting reading, sometimes genealogy, sometimes little acadian stories. So I would urge you to let them know your feelings on this. I found the following email , not sure if it is correct but I have sent them my views to the following email addee; redaction@journaletoile.com or production@journaletoile.com if production doesn't work try productions with an s.

Today I decided to take a drive to the Notre Dame de Kent Cemetery, I wanted to put some flowers on my father's grave, it will be 3 years tomorrow that he passed away. The weather wasn't very cooperative, but I did not let it win. smile, I went to the cemetery in the pouring rain, took the flowers to the gravesite. Told my Dad I did not forget. And then I really felt so good doing so.
Now in July it will be 8 years that I lost my husband and I will do the same, go there and bring some flowers. Maybe the sun will be shining that day. grin.
Here is another poem I wrote for my grandaughter, I have a grandson, and I made some for him just not sure where I placed the copies .smile.

I would like to begin this blog by showing my appreciations to the many people who have helped in in the last week in finding articles regarding the little boy who died in a fire in 2005. I have received so much response that I am overwelmed. I received the little boy's obit, and last night I received the article in the paper about the tragedy. And this does make a person think about the dangers and I hope by posting this that those of you who have children , please watch them very carefully. It only takes a second , then it can be too late to save them.
This little boy Joseph age 10 was in the basement of his home where he had his bedroom and he was playing with matches. Children are very curious so they experiment with anything at all.
The fire spread fast and the rest of the family all got out safe but the firemen reached little Joseph too late. He later died at the hospital of smoke inhalation. In the paper his step uncle said that Joseph was always asking Why????? He wanted to know things.
I have a ten year old grandson, and all of this makes me think, we have to make sure our children are safe in the home as well as out of the home. So again PLEASE make sure your children are safe and not doing things they are not suppose to do.
Now I shall go back to my genealogy, I am still entering names dates places in my Legacy Software. Once I have them all entered I want to get as many stories about their lives as I can. It is a big undertaking but I am doing what I love , and love what I am doing. smile.
I was remembering the Television Saga Roots by Alex Haley and I think if some of us made movies about our acadian or french canadian ancestors we would have some great stories. Of course this goes for any others who have famous ancestors , no matter what language or race.
But on the other hand I played the part of a lady dressed as a witch on halloween in a movie and no one came forward and asked me to become a star. smile.

hello everyone, it has been a while since I last posted. I have been quite busy with various things, First of all my computer has been giving me such a hard time, but I think I have it all under control. For now anyway.
I have also been trying to verify a death of a little ten year old boy. This little boy was separated from his father and the father could not locate him for many years since the mother remarried. Anyway two days ago the father received word that his son perished in a fire in 2005.Can you imagine two years not knowing his son was dead? So I did a search and located his date of obit in rootsweb. Then I wrote to the Edmonton Library seeking the obit, it arrived today. Now I am trying to find the article about the fire in the edmonton journal for January 20 and January 21 2005. If any of you have access to the Edmonton Journal and you find the info , I sure would appreciate it. If so please reply or send a comment at the bottom of this blog. The little boy went under the name of Joseph Lawson, his obit reads Joseph Louis Leger Lawson. So I want the article about the fire if possible.
Changing the subject on mother's day I went to visit my mom, She is 89 years of age today, and she has a memory that is unbelievable. So I sat and listened to her stories again, that I never tire of. This time she talked about when she was ten or eleven years old. She said that her great uncle used to chaw tobacco and spit it out . So Mom and her brother would chew the bark from the trees, and walk along the road and spit out their bark as if it were tobacco. Mom said all you could see along the roadside was chewed bark. She also repeated that when she was young , her father loaned his muzzle gun to my uncle and Mom had a 22 rifle. They would go partridge hunting, Mom is a very small lady, and she is only 4 ten or 4 11 in height. Mom said when her brother would hit a partridge, all you could see were feathers flying, she said she was a good shot and all the young kids would watch her hit the bullseye on targets that they placed in the trees. I am amazed how many things my Mom did, she said they used to go hunt wearing snow shoes that she helped her father make. I have a hard time tying my shoe laces let alone try and make snowshoes, grin. As for guns I am afraid of them, I don't want one in my house even. They are so dangerous sometimes it is scary.

Could I run the marathon? Well today I feel as if I could. We have a little sheltie dog, he is not young but is he ever fast. Anyway this morning I decided to get up take my shower then put him out.No way, he wanted out and that was it. So I put him on his lease opened the door and out he went. I usually check to see if he is ok, so I opened my blinds and he was at the top of the steps so I opened the door and said no no , go do your business. Well I just turned to go back inside I was in my nightdress by the way and looked back he was loose. So down the stairs I ran to try and catch him, (picture this me in my nightie , running in the yard) But he was fast, out through the yards he went. So I hurried inside, told my friend, threw on just enough clothes to look decent and out I ran. I went through all the back yards there were plenty. NO Thunder, up one street, NO Thunder. Then I spotted him, he had crossed one street and was preparing to cross another one. So Miz Aline ran with all her might. huff puff, and when I got near him , before he saw me , he had decided to leave his mark on a telephone pole, I reached down and grabbed his collar. Whew. So I brought him home.
Again another story to jot down for the grandchilden. Yes if you have pets, why don't you enter them into among your genealogy notes? I found a photo of my grandfather with this dog sitting on a barrel, my grandfather made him do tricks, my mom said he was a smart dog. That is nice to know. Now I have notes about two pets of mine. One was a little blue and white budgie, I called him Joey. My husband and I bought him from a pet store and I decided to train him. So I began by learning his trust, I would put a pencil under his feet so he could get on it. After a while I began slowly bringing out the pencil until he stayed on it. Once I had that mastered I began saying Hi Joey. Over and over over again. I would then leave for work, come back and again it was Hi Joey. One day I came home from work. I wasn't in the room five minutes I heard HI Joey. It was so exciting that I taught him, these words and sometimes he had them all in his sentence, Bad Bad Joey, Beau ti bird, T'es bien beau, beau ti car, back off. He would sometimes say, beau ti bird , beau ti car, back off joey. grin. So I wrote all this down in my genealogy book.
Hope you enjoyed my blog.

Here I am again, it seems as it has been ages since I came in to chat. Today I found myself driving into Nova Scotia from New Brunswick. The weather was overcast and rain drizzles. We decided to go to Joggins Nova Scotia, I had never been there, so it was something new to see.
It was so nice seeing all these old place names such as Napan, Maccan, River Hebert, Minounie and Joggins. These are all places I have come across during my genealogy years. If I had the time it would have been nice to stop at all of these places. They were all close to one another.
Now Joggins has a lot to see but we never had the chance, the rain began pouring while we were in the cemetery. So then it was time to head back home.
On our way home along the side of the road, we saw a strange bird, it looked like a pelican or a stork, very rare . It was the first time we ever saw one of them in the wild. I wish I had taken a picture of it. But I do need to upgrade my digital so that I can zoom in on my images.
I am planning on going to Port Royal,Grand Pre and Fort Louisbourg this summer. I sure hope my plans will succeed. I have never been to Port Royal, I went to Grand Pre. It is very pretty in Grand Pre. I want to return.
So to get back to my Joggins story, if you are interested in checking out my website, I have added a few inscriptions from the St Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Joggins . Go to www.acadian-roots.com click on Joggins Nova Scotia. Maybe some of your ancestors will be there. I would like to return and do more of the cemetery later.
Have a great day and thank you for stopping by.
